Hi All, we are running 11.28.97 now we have 2 servers with windows file agent and we are getting vss problems: RROR CODE [17:176]: Failed to create VSS snapshot required to run system state backup. System state backup is skipped. VSS error [[0x80004005 2147500037] Unbekannter Fehler]. Please refer VSS Event logs for more details. After reboot the backup runs fine maybe 1 day maybe 3 days its different.  When we check the vss writer and provider status it looks fine. Also the windows eventlog did not show any problems. i also checked the hotfix lists without any hint.

Hi Team,We have daily schedule for SQL restore and some times  SQL restoration job is going to pending state with below error. Could you please help on this. Query Result [Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException:A previous restore operation was interrupted and did not complete processing on file 'ENDR_MSS_DATA'. Either restore the backup set that was interrupted or restart the restore sequence. Problems were identified while planning for the RESTORE statement. Previous messages provide details. Hihow can i identify which users impersonate to SQL backup for logshipping job?(Subclient - CvFailoverLogShipping) its suppose to be in the SQL the installed on the Comserve itself? if so, i can identify it? i want to switch the user that do this backup, i created a specific user that cannot lock...just need to configure it in SSMS :)Thanks

Dear All,  Our mails and attachments are archived via enterprise vault and it will leave a shortcut to open it. Somehow we lost all the shortcuts in our mailbox. Is it possible to restore enterprise vault shortcuts from Commvault exchange (DAG) backup?Please let me know. Thank you.  Best regards, Rajes

Hi All, A bandwidth issue is currently affecting production network communications. This problem takes place during the backup period.In order to optimize our backup capacity, we are considering the configuration of dedicated ESXi Hosts for non-production backups.Since commvault uses vcenter to take snapshots of VMs, will these snapshots be taken across all ESXi Hosts, despite us having dedicated ESXi Hosts specific to commvault?Our goal would be for snapshots to be taken on all ESXi Hosts, but only dedicated hosts can transfer snapshots to the media agents. Our fear is that the vcenter will migrate the vmachines in the queue to the dedicated Hosts in order to take snapshots of the VMs.. which is to be avoided. Thanks!

Question: If “System created schedule policy for DDB Space Reclamation” will not run against mount points that support drilling of holes… will me manually running [DDB] → All Tasks → “Run Space Reclamation (and choosing “Clean Orphan Data”) actually run and clean up orphan data if I have mount points that have hole drilling support enabled? Background:I have some mount paths (direct connected storage to physical media agents, not cloud) that have data not associated with jobs, and appear to be full of “referenced data” (they list DDB’s as being referenced) or maybe there is some “orphaned” data in them…I want to clean them up and eventually delete the mount points.I plan to seal each DDB to remove the ‘referenced data”, but I believe if ‘orphaned data” existed, it would be left on the mount point after all the DDB’s were sealed and pruning/ageing occurred on them. Hello,following recent restore request, upon checking we found out that retention of the data has been met and pruned back in 2019, now the client needs data from 2017-2018, so we identified some tapes used for the backup copy to tape, and can see that the tapes are not overwritten, so we can still recover it as per the documentation, could you please help me with the process how can i get the data recovered using aged tape(not overwritten), Note: its NDMP client for which license is released, and current backups are configured on another NDMP client following storage migration (just in case information needed.)

Question: “Why” is it not recommended to use this setting if retention is above 90 days or ‘extended retention” set?  Would it not work if it was 120 days, or “extended retention” as set to 120 days and you just set it to 365?  What is the danger if retention is higher than 90 days? Background:In this document: Deduplication FAQ (commvault.com) there is a statement made for a setting in [DDB] → properties → Settings called “Do not Deduplicate against objects older than n day(s)”Statement: “Do not Deduplicate against objects older than n day(s) option to 4 times of the retention days when the retention is below 90 days on the storage policy copy. If the retention is above 90 days or the extended retention is set on the storage policy copy, then do not use this option” Also: It appears this setting can probably go up to 365 days (its “365” in the greyed out settings if its not checked to set this setting).Also: I have some old (read only) mount points that have “referenced data” on them

Hi,I’ve runned the planning phase of the workflow for converting DDB to v5 which shows all ddb’s good to go.What performance improvement can I expect in procent?Do I need to stop production before running the conversion or can it run with full production?Does it convert one DDB at a time?

The Question i have is if we were to build a new instance of CommVault console on a new vm, and the current non working CommVault instance is connected to HPE StoreOnce , if we connect the newly created CommVault instance to the existing StoreOnce storage would this then loss the ability to restore data from the existing HPE StoreOnce. and possibly delete the existing data stored on the HPE StoreOnce.we also use a replica between the StoreOnce Onces as we have one on each of our two sites.

Good afternoon!I am restoring files/filesystem from a Vmware in Commvault, but all files are showing 0 bytes in the information and do not open. I tried performing it on other servers and testing full backups from other dates, they also have 0 bytes.Can anyone help if this is in the Windows layer or in the Commvault application?

i have sql server backup to on premsie disk and i have a media agent and storafe in azure cloud  i want to do replication to azure storage from there i need to do restore a vm where i have created instance  but i dont see an ioption to select the copy to replicate it from 

I have a question, Is there a way to create a CSV from an Active Directory? I don't want to restore the objects, just compare them If the restore fails to restore information, Commvault also generates a CSV with the failed information

How can we select from which copy to be replicated for sql backupi have sql backup to disk and then dash copy to azure, i want to do auto recovery to azure sql server,while creating replication group i dont see an option to choose the copy

Hello All,We're looking into implementing Air Gap protect as outlined here:https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/essential/air_gap_protect.htmlwe understand the principle behind air gapping and what the benefits are, however I’m wondering what does the air gap protect storage actually do? If we are already configuring an air gap between systems such as with a network topology, or for example with VM power management, ect… then what does the air gap storage do exactly? Say versus just any other type of cloud storage? thanks!Lani

Hello Team,We are planning to configure O365 backup using Commvault in an on-premises environment.Please advise the hardware requirement of Media agent, access node & indexing and any other prerequisites.We have deduplication hardware appliance that will use of Disk library.The access node we are planning to keep in DMZ environment, so that what are the ports communication is needed from internal and o365 communication also.And please let me know the deduplication and compression will use Commvault end or external storage appliance. Thanks in advance. 

couldn't restore mailbox mails from full backup as the older mails which backup was taken wasn't found and even created recovery point to test but couldn't be done. 

Hi,When making an inplace upgrade of an Windows server from for ex. 2012R2 to 2022. Does Commvault see that as a new server when calculating the Capacity Licenses in use for Commvault Backup and Recovery?

Hello Commvault community,Ιn case it needs to be implemented GFS (Grandfather-Father-Son) for VMware / Azure VMs workloads, what is the preferred tier to use in Azure?I assume that hot tier is ideal for daily backups (with 7-14 days retention), but what about  weekly backup jobs with 180 days+ retention ?Can hot tier combined with cool tier or must create a new cool/cold container (with new DDB) for these weekly backup jobs? To split daily backups → hot tier and weekly backups -->cool / cold tier.What is the best approach for this case? Please for your feedback,Nikos

While running auxillary copy job media marked as appendable its not full , after appendable is not reusableThis appendable media is not full, also tape is getting stuck inside the drive,if we can reuse this appendable tape without erase the existing data(because we data retention in 5 years) please share any solution for this issue
