Hi Team,When we take a laptop backup, we can preview the files in txt, pdf, docx format by clicking on them. Is it possible to disable this feature?Best Regards
The current commvault infra deployed on single server i.e. All in One(CS+MA). Now i want to change hardware and migrate both on new single hardware with configuration and backup data.
Hi Team,My customer has large oracle DB 100 TB running on AIX power server and attached with Hitachi Storage. The DBs replicating to similar setup with block level replication. They configured the FS backup on replicated server and backing up DB (100 TB) as flat file using AIX FS agent. They restore the entire data to another AIX machine, storage space came from Dell storage on weekly basis. The backup and restore handles by same seventeen-node HSX, the backup is completing by 5+ hours and restore take 25+ hours.Currently we are trying to identify other possibilities to reduce the restoration window. We had an idea to explore IntelliSnap, but I am curious to know is it possible to perform restore snapshot into Dell which was taken from Hitachi? In this scenario, still data needs to travel over the network from source to target storage. Can you suggest if you have any suggestion/input.
We make CIFS backups from NetApp ONTAP 9.12 to Commvault using intellisnap. When Commvault starts the backup, it first creates a snapshot, then a clone volume on the snapshot, and finally a cifs share.Unfortunately, this way every file is pulled through the virus scanner, which reduces the performance a lot.Is there a way to prevent Commvault from creating the clone volume and the new share?Surely it should be possible to back up the direct path \\svm\volume\SP_2_snapshot? Then no new share would have to be created. The existing shares have a “writes-only” configuration, i.e. data is not scanned for viruses when it is read. After changing the antiviros on Netapp to writes-only the throughput is 4 times higher. Does anyone know any best practice for this? Thanks and regards,Thomas
HI team, Do we have any solution to manage CommCell configuration (library, security,...) as code like YAML or XAML?
To provide improved visibility for each respective DC, we would like to integrate Commvault's backup job status into our SolarWinds dashboarding."simple" integration of CV / SW Backup job total, success, warning, failure status monitored by SW SW "Widget" created to visualize on DashboardCould you please help here.
Has anyone got a process in place where they’ve been able to update server information held within a ServiceNow table(DB) with information of last backup date and time. Basically looking for a way to ensure all servers they need a Commvault Backup are being backed up. This would include VM and Client Agent Backups.
we have an old hp library , as part of the hardware refresh we introduced new library exagrid , we are using software deduplication , but the exagrid team recommending on having fresh backup , not to migrate the data from old library as it might affect the hardware deduplication. what is the diffrence between moving the mount path , and creating new stroage pool , creating aux copy and promoting it to primary once the it sync , which option is better if we have like 30tb baseline size ? when we do the aux copy , the secondary copy has any affect on the priamry libarary storage , or deduplication ?
Planning to move a few clients from one CommCell to another without using CommCell migration method.I don't need the backup history of the clients. But I need to make sure the subclient configuration, instances defined etc are kept intactThe idea is once they are on the other CommCell we will just need to repoint the clients to specific Storage policies on the new Commcells. Also if its possible to avoid reinstalling the agents on the servers. Is there any scripts/workflow available to do this tasks?
What is the risk of changing the password of the generic Commvault admin account. We are doing this as a security contingency in our environment. Is there a risk of issues arising doing this? Let me know of any recommendations/suggestions
Hello, we are planning of ‘Backup of File share in Azure using Commvault in On Prem Storage’. We have gone through the documentations related to Commvault in side configuration. But We are looking for documentation or any use case that can demonstrate/describe more about the connectivity between Azure to Commvault - On Prem. Kindly Help to suggest to on this,
Hello Community I hope someone can help? I need to test a new VPN line our network department have activated to send data from our on prem media agent up to cloud storage for infinite copies. Unfortunately our month end jobs are not on a schedule and copy data up, as and when it comes in. Is there a way to copy data (jobs) from one copy to the month end copy then run an aux copy on demand so i can test the routing of this traffic? Any help or guidance would be much appreciated. thanksTonyQ
Hi all,After installing the MediaAgent Package on some Windows Servers (These just require the component and do not not act as a Data Mover or host a DR Share) I get the once a day 64:1142 Critical Code Event logged: Administrative share are enabled on the MediaAgent XXX which could lead to potential security exploits, please review and take necessary steps.Having reviewed https://kb.commvault.com/article/72274 this article only really seems concerned with disk libraries and DR Shares that use an Admin share in its path. I have 2 servers that this is being logged in event viewer for, yet they only have the default C$, Admin$ and IPC$. Should Commvault be flagging the C$ as something that should be removed? Indeed if I apply a reg key (AutoShareServer = 0) the alert is suppressed, but this also removes the Admin$ Share. Are these alerts in the Event Viewer supposed to be triggered for these default Shares by design or is it being over zealous and picking up these in error? The Cri
Hi CV team,For a backup size on a file server around 60TB of data what is the best strategy from Commvault backup that will have a good RPO and RTO?Kindly consider which data protection type or a combination of them will help to attain the good RPO and RTO as the primary requirements.
Is there a way, additional setting or something like that, that could limit the number of jobs a backup copy workflow submits at one time? Running IntelliSnap on NetApp and when all of the copies kick off at once things get overloaded. Just wondering if there is a way to limit it. I know you can when you submit it manually, but the automated ones run max number of jobs.
Hello Team, We have on-Prem Exch 2019 and we decided to move o365.Do we have any best approach to use commvault to perform migration of Exch MBX to o365.Note: We use Exch DB agent to backup on-prem and no mbx agent configured.
I have a PureStorage NAS array. At the moment it’s carrying about 200Tb of video files. By the way if you ever heard that video files do not deduplicate vary well then I can confirm that. Our video is extremely repetitive. It’s camera footage of the same scene over and over. It’s not like a movie or anything like that, it’s more like endless footage of a conveyor belt for hours and hours. So even incredibly boring video images of the same thing does not deduplicate. Our deduplication rate on this PureStore device is basically zero. But that aside, i need to back it up. It’s all NFS exports that our Linux systems access. What is Commvault’s prescribed method for this? Do we dedicate a Linux host to the task and then backup the mount point on the Linux host? Or is there a better way?
We are sending Commvault Commserve database meta data backup to commvault cloud(metallic). For Governance, we want to know in which Azure datacenter Meta data files are stored ?If there any way we can encrypt the data while sending to commvault cloud ?Can we enable password protection on the SET files in the commvault cloud ?
Hi everyone,i am testing the 1touch feature on a physical Linux server, SLES 15 SP4. I deleted the /root and i am trying to recover on the same host. I reached the step of postinstall actions, then recreating initrd, then it says i will see a reboot. The problem is that the reboot gives me a black screen and i cannot go further, F2 is not working so i could go to the bash interface. I have commvault vrs 11.32 on the commserve and the client, and i used ISO from 11.32, 11.34 and i have the same result.Any idea what might be wrong here?
Hi CV Team, We want to send CSDB meta data to commvault cloud(metallic). We have whitelisted all CV URLS. We added internet proxy IP to the commserve host. When try to enable the setting “upload backup metadata to metallic cloud”, I am getting below error in CVcloudservices.log “Failed to connect to cvdrservices.metallic.io port 443 after 21000ms, cloudnt connect to server”. Kindly note, I am able to url the URL upload backup metadata to metallic cloud” on the commserve edge browser.Do I miss anything here? Do I need to configure HTTP proxy on commcell console ?https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/configuring_http_proxy_server_for_commserve_computer.htmlIf I configure, does it allow access to all clients in environment(which we does not want) ?You can configure all clients in your CommCell environment to access Internet resources through an HTTP proxy server.
Hello all,A customer running Commvault 11.28.117, would like to build a dashboard that contains reports with filtered views (many SharePoint farms and SQL servers backup job summary). The issue is that already existing reports that we would like to integrate in this dashboard, are all different views of default “ Backup Job summary “ report, each of them is filtered to display only specific SharePoint farms or SQL servers via predefined “ Client Computer Groups “.In the dashboard, filters are not retained, that means that each time I reopen the dashboard, all reports display backups jobs for all clients … That, whatever if I use web console or admin console to edit the report.I even tried to edit the dashboard with ReportPlus (or report builder) and save it as a view, it does not change anything... Thanks in advance for your help.R
I was curious if keeping logging of access to the commvault console and file access for security would result in any performance degradation or at what point would this data be trimmed ? if kept indefinitely.
Hi, I’ve done a few transitions from a HDS branded Commserve (HDPS) to a default Commvault setup. That was usually done by installing a new Commserve with the Commvault downloaded installation package and then recover the CSDB. This also updated all paths to default. Does anyone know if there is a way to just re-brand to default Commvault settings in an easy way. Or is re-installing still the best way to do this? I know that this will not reset paths but in this case it may be acceptable. /Patrik
Hi all,I would like to know what are some advice/recommendations you can provide with regards to CommCell migration.Im in the initial planning stage of migrating my existing CommCell and merge it with an existing one. Any gotchas, limitations and expectedissues when migrating. Is there any rule of thumb when it comes to timeline ( how long does it take to migrate clients across, storage policies )Is there a chance that the migration would fail and if it does what are the consequences?Any advice would be appreciated.
We are working through a redesign of our backup process for our ongoing migration to Azure. In vmware we have had to avoid using VSA backups for the OS/filesytem for our SQL servers due to issues caused by the stun that occurs when a snapshot is taken. SQL servers are backed up with Filesystem and SQL agents. The main problem with this is the time it takes to recover if one or more SQL servers needs to be completely recovered from backups. As we move to Azure, we would ideally like to back up the SQL servers using VSA and intellisnap, then the SQL agent would be used to back up the SQL data. This way we could leverage the simplicity of a VSA restore if something happened to the server/OS, and then the SQL data could be restored to a specific point in time if needed. Has anyone done this? Is there a better way to accomplish this that we aren’t thinking of?The main goals are to increase the speed at which we could recover a SQL server.
