Hi there! Could you please address me to the right procedure how to deploy Standby CommServe Server? I have found this page (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/128066_deploying_standby_commserve_server.html), however we have no HyperScale Appliance it is just ordinary Commserve Server So, if I want to deploy Standby CommServe as DR site in case of speed failover, should I deploy the Standby CommServe as written there (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/106129_installing_standby_commserve_host.html) In general, is deploying of the Standby CommServe host time consuming process or is it more intuitive task?
Hello,I have a question regarding this procedure (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/105913_installing_feature_releases_on_standby_commserve_host_and_sql_clients.html).Should be the point 2 ( From the Command Center, install the feature release or the maintenance release in the Standby Commserve Host and the SQL clients in both the production and standby CommServe hosts as follows ) run completely from the standby host?
Question: Is the 11.23-LinuxCS-PackagesEanble, the new Linux Commcell Commserve ?If so I am super excited to test it out on my home lab.https://cloud.commvault.com/webconsole/softwarestore/#!/130/725/19255
Commvault new licensing model very straight forward, but when we compare with earlier version its very flexible to match customer requirement. New license good for some one using hypervisor environment and if they planning to move cloud. But this new licensing model not suitable for onprem setup like they are using physical servers and are they have to backup separate NAS server etc….because its very costly backup solution.
I try to do SQL DB point-in-time restore, may I restore SQL DB as new database name? looks like I have to do SQL DB point-in-time restore to original location.
We recently had a great thread asking this very question, and the content that was covered deserves its own article!Keep in mind, these are guidelines and recommendations…..your mileage may vary!Sizing Media Agents and their capacity is a common question within Support and on this community. How much capacity a Media Agent can handle is purely based number of DDB disks and their size. The number of partitions has nothing to do with capacity planning. How many partitions to use will be based on how many DDB disks and MAs are there; it’s a configuration item. For example, one Extra Large Media Agent with 2 DDB disks gives you 500TB capacity regardless of how many partitions you create! To plan out your setup, follow these simple steps:Determine how much storage capacity needed. Use below table to determine how many Media Agents are needed for your required storage capacity.Note that there could be multiple combinations giving the same capacity, you can pick any of the combinations by consi
Can any one from legacy can describe about CommVault history. What could be the major version boom the market to place in top Data Protection Tool. Version <8 → Galaxy Version 8 & 9 → Simpana Version 10 & 11 → CommVaultCan give more details about Commvault historical information when these changes happened. (If any above wrong correct it please).
Is there anyone who would care to speak about (some pros and cons) using Snapshots to preserve Disk Library Mount Paths’s content? Our Storage System provide Snapshots that are read-only—they can’t be altered, overwritten, or deleted directly from Media Agent Servers. We are evaluating the possibility of creating a recovery point every 12 hours using Snapshots as an additional action beyond those described on the following pages. Mount Paths are essentially File Systems exported via NFS from Storage Systems that don’t support WORM.
We just installed a brand new CommServe for testing and noticed it came along with SQL 2019. Now the documentation states the following:Note: Beginning in Feature Release 11.25, during the installation of the CommServe software or other server packages, Commvault installs Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Standard Edition by default. See: https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/142606_upgrading_microsoft_sql_server_2016_standard_edition_to_microsoft_sql_server_2019_standard_edition.htmlNow as SQL 2019 is already installed by default as part of FR25 it to me raised the question if the note in the documentation actually indicates that it requires SQL 2019 to be installed. SQL 2012 R2 extended support is ending next year, so to me it would make sense to start informing customers that they should make plans to upgrade. Most likely you are also still running on Windows 2012 R2 so it would require a full refresh of both OS and SQL.Anyway I'm curious to hear if FR25 will require SQL 2019 to
We have several clients that are VM’s but also have the FSA agent installed on them, we released the FSA agent and are backing them up as VM. Question: Is there a way to change the Days since last successful backup for client to include clients backing up as VM’s.
Hi team, We have one storage pool with 50TB and want to deploy one Commserve with two media agents. My question is what is the best practice to deploy the ddb over the 2MA?
Hello, I'm currently testing the Hyperscale X 2.1 Reference Architecture deployment and i would like to know if it's possible to configure at 1GB, my network interfaces on Data Protection Network, because when I configure, he tells me " Encouterd error Interface should have at least 10GB" , but when I tested Hyperscale 1.5 Reference Architecture deployment, I was able to configure my interfaces to 1GB for the Data Protection Network without any problem. So, I would like to confirm if it's possible to use my 1GB interfaces instead of 10GB with Hyperscale X 2.1 for the DPN. Please note that the other interfaces for the SPN and Replication will be on a 10GB link.
Greetings all,It has been a few years since I deployed our Linux VSA and I do not see where to download it from. I went to https://cloud.commvault.com/ but do not see anything similar to what I downloaded years ago. Has the name changed for the appliance or has the process changed entirely? Thanks.
IssueVMWare recently released update 7.0 U2b to address two high profile security vulnerabilities. If this update is installed it breaks VMWare tag associations, which in turn means that if Commvault backups and virtual machine reporting (specifically Chargeback) are based on VMWare Tags those backups or Reports will also no longer function properly.Security IssuesVMware vSphere Client (HTML5) contains a remote code execution vulnerability due to lack of input validation in the VMware vSAN health check plug-in. A malicious actor with network access to port 443 might exploit this issue to execute commands with unrestricted privileges on the underlying operating system that hosts vCenter Server. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifier CVE-2021-21985 to this issue. For more information, see VMware Security Advisory VMSA-2021-0010. I am adding a new Media Agent to an existing Storage Resource that has 1 Disk Library in place. Q: How should I structure it?Add Mount paths to existing disk library Or Add a New Disk Library associated with new Media Agent (srap-ma02)?

Hello,Can someone explain what this is to me “Usages excluded from capacity because of Protected VM license”. Does this mean they are not being counted and if so why are they not being counted. Thanks,
Hello everyone,I’m curious to know how many media agents you guys are running for your backups? I have about 300 VMs + fileshares where I have daily, weekly, monthly and yearly jobs running from a specific media agent. The server fails from time to time due the amount of information that goes through it, a reboot would fix it and all the jobs would continue without a problem. I’m aware that I need more servers dedicated to act as media agent but I do not know how many I should have and the specs they should have. The media agent has the following specs: 2 CPU: E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30GHzRam: 256 GBA support agent mentioned one time that he saw some org having 10 servers acting as media agent only to run half what we have. It sound a bit overkill to me and I believe the specs of their servers may have been worst than what we’re currently running. So, how many media agent are you using in your org? What are the specs for your servers?
Hello, I have some question about application class 1 lincense. Hello EveryoneI need your expertise advise on a failover solution for the backup configuration across multi master and master-slave setup. We want to know can if and how we can configure backups in multi-master and master-slave setup in such a way that the backups do not fail if the node where backup is running goes offline. ThanksSrikanth
Hi..Scenario:Some clients are being re- deployed using Jenkins + Ansible... This re- deployment contains a decoupled install of the CVLT agent. After re- deployment, we need to go to "Client Computers", "New Client", "Unix", then enter the Client Name and Host Name along with "Fetch the configuration from the client that is installed in decoupled mode".What would be the best way to automate this, so one could skip the above steps... ? Can this be done from the client side...? (.SImwrapper tool maybe?)Any advice on this would be VERY much appreciated.. Thank you..Best regardsKim Rubeck Solstar
Hi All, I am trying to migrate the old CommCell environment (11 sp15) to the new CommCell enviroment (11 sp20). I would like to move agents and data without the policies ( I would like to create the new backup polices). I am wondering if that is possilble, what route should I go and what support documents should I follow if any? Thanks!
If an auxiliary copy of the primary data is running, the DR Backup auxiliary copy job is waiting. What needs to be done to run in parallel?
Hi all,I would like to discuss the topic about Maximum and Fixed Number of Readers (Stream Readers). This option can be set up at Schedules window (Auxiliary Copy Job Options). Is there any rule, that says when there is better to have Maximum number of stream readers or just set only one allow stream reader? Especially for NDMP and ordinary File System agent aux jobs?
I know I should remember how to do this but I’ve failed to find the BoL doc which speaks to this objective. For a long time we’ve only done selective fulls to tape. Can someone remind me or point me to the directions for moving away from the selective fulls to “if the associated clients did an incremental last night, copy the incremental changes to tape, and if the client had a synth full run, copy that to tape as a full” -- in our case weekly synth fulls, no SILO of course. Does this require 2 separate aux copies in the SP? I don’t necessarily care about keeping the weekly full jobs on separate media, I’d actually just like to keep filling them day by day and have them age off accordingly.thanks
