Backup automation check for VMs and FS agents

Hi! I was trying to create a script using python for VM and FS clients that are configured on our Commvault software.I’ve used several references (below is a sample) and used the sandbox APIhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/45898_rest_api_get_client_properties.html But, unfortunately, I can’t seem to find a more granular result. Like for example, I’ve used Get /Client/VMPseudoClient API, Get VMBrowse (but unable to find PseudoClientId and inventoryPath) ang Get ClientID (but I am also getting clients that were unlicensed already) but all operations does not give me the information I need. I need to get the VM subclients under active VSA Agent and also FS clients that are currently licensed and being backed up.  Do you guys have any sample that I can refer to? Thanks a bunch!

Windows File System Agent - Can we backup Windows Folder Paths Longer than 260 characters?

I have a windows client. The user would like to know if they can backup files with folder paths that are greater than 260 characters. During my initial research, I found the sSupportLongPath setting. According to the documentation, the setting may only apply to Linux systems. Can someone help clarify this for me? Also, how many characters does 1024 bytes equal to? Thanks in advance!  Does this setting apply to Windows File systems?

Using Immutable Storage Pools in Azure for Commvault Backup Target

We have a Commvault infrastructure running in Azure with all clients in Azure and we are thinking of converting the Azure storage accounts to be immutable, has anyone any experience of doing this?I think that this will increase the amount of storage being used by a factor of between 2 and 3 but just wanted someone who had actual experience of doing this to comment on this?

Connecting an existing client from one Commcell to another Commcell - changes required?

We are putting in a  new commcell and starting completely fresh and don’t want to import anything from the old but we will be backing up the same clients as the old commcell. Are any client configuration changes (client Win registry, config files etc) required if the new commcell wants to backup the client which was previously backed up by another commcell? The old commcell domain will remain for a while for restores and the conversion will be staggered.  The idea is if there are changes required on client they will have to flipped back to the original for restores.The old commcell agent software is reasonably up to date and we trying to avoid installing two agents on the same client.    Thanks Jim

DEVICE_LABEL file - What is this file for?

Commvault 11.24.12According to the documentation, “The mount path label file is required for the pruning of aged data in the mount path”.Create Mount Path Labels WorkflowIs the DEVICE_LABEL file the mount path label file?Do I need one to every mount path to prune aged data? Some of our Mount Paths don’t have one.  Does it apply to Mount Paths secured by CommVault Ransomware Protection?

How to easily remove SQL from legacy Schedule Policies after plan association.

Hi,We are converting from storage polices to plans.  When we move a sql agent to Plans, it leaves behind the legacy schedule policy.  So now jobs are doubling up unless we manually remove the association from the old schedule policy.  Is anyone automating this process or know of how we can easily move to the plan and not have the old policy hang around. Would this be a CMR to request the remove old schedule and maybe have to agree to remove it?

Error transfer ownership missing when deleting a user

We have several users accounts that first started as a local CommCell user and then later was Active Directory SSO enabled.  When I try to delete any of these users I get an error:Transfer of OwnershipI am never prompted to select a new owner like I get on all the most recent users. I have tried manually transferring ownership then a delete but get the same error.I have also tried deleting from either locations; CommCell Users and Domains And Organizations/Users. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Synth Full on Seconday Copy Storage Policy

Hi,we backup a File Server in China with Inc. On Saturday there is synth Full.The Aux Copy of the Synt Full ( 1.8 TB )( to Germany is really slow.Can i schedule the Synt Full on the secondy Storage Policy ?In China always incremental, aux copy to germany and then in germany the Synt Full.We need a full for the tape backups.RegardsPeter Rupp

SQL Live sync operation converted to Full restore

I have configured sql live sync, and there is a schedule configured to be performed after the backup job completes,Everything is going fine but suddenly the sync operation converted to full restore without any change in the source server also there is no change occurred in destination side so i am asking about this behavior as its not logic to change to full restore with out any change !Commserve,Sql clients & MA version is 11.23..

Oracle Backup Archive Index Failure

 Hi,I am getting an indexing error on some Oracle RAC instances. The job automatically retries and manages to complete the indexing the second or third time. The problem does not occur on all instances but only on some. I have verified that it shows up on both RAC v.11 and v.12 clients. Below is the detail and the message in the archiveindex.log.  Media Agent extract archiveindex.log:3952  2574  09/15 00:23:59 922655 Valid Afile [1001624] is not found in generated logs,  path [I:\IndexCache\CvIdxLogs\2\9EFD2ACC-3797-429D-A30A-BD283158776F\J922655] Setting Hard Indexing Failure

associate plan to computers group in REST API

Hi All,I tried to move 330 client with file system agent from one plan to another one associated with another gridstor.i tried not to do this manually, i have found the REST API PUT plan clients Commvault Rest API - Public that can update associations for one client.it is possible to use this API for a computer group ? Kind regards,Christophe

Backup Summary report for last 90 days, while retention 30 days

Hi, We run for some client backups with 30 day retention.For audit purposes we run every 3 months a Backup Summary Report over the last 90 monthsBut only the last 30 days show up. Makes sense in a way as jobs are aged.Is there a way to have also the information of the other 60 days for which the jobs are already aged?We only need to know how many backups have run and how many of them were successful.I already had a look at the setting in the "Data Aging” tab under “Media Agent” in the "Control Panel” but this seems to be default and for most rules keeps 90 days of history.  thanksDanny PS We know we can run it every month but we are looking for the simplest way.

Cloud library advice for Commvault?

I’ve looked at the list of destinations for cloud library and didn’t find Azure Gov. Cloud. We currently use Azure but will move to Azure Gov Cloud.Can I create a Cloud library in Azure Gov by just choose Azure and change the url? Or isn’t Azure Gov Supported as destination? BRHenke

Show only un-selected associations under the 'Entities Selection' section within Alerting

Does anyone know of a method to show only ‘Un-selected’ within the alert wizard for ‘Data Protection’ jobs under the ‘Job Management’ Category? I see the checkbox for ‘Show only selected’ under the ‘Entities Selection’ section, but I am looking for the inverse of this to show all backup clients that have been unselected instead. This is to make sure that we are not missing any backup clients for alerting that have previously been deselected from this alert definition. Thank you

After Restore Full VM start recovery Windows

Hi, I will be very appreciate for help. Could not start server after restoring from Commvault backup > https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/87275_restoring_full_virtual_machines_for_vmware.htmlDuring the recovery process, a virtual machine with disks is created, but when the machine is started, the machine is reconfigured, as a result of which the server does not start and only the recovery windows mode appears.Windows server 2012 R2 version being restored. VMware ESXi 7.0.1Also backup is fine - I try form another backup and see the same problem I find error : Entering Required Firewall Settings for the VSA with VMware -  but backup is working so it nor problem with connection. Extra information from logs:The Windows Dedupe content will backed up as OPTIMIZED_FOR_RESTORERESTOREIDX raw partition option and no stubs option remain disabledThe failed byte count does not include files that failed due to seek errorThis is NOT a WOW64 system state restoreIndexingV2 is enable

NDMP Multi Streaming Criteria

We have NDMP Multi Streaming backups enabled, however, not all subclients meet the criteria, specifically the directory size over 20GB factor;Multi Stream: Successfully determined contents of path [<info_redacted>]. FileCount:[32] DirectoryCount:[3204]1632  12dc  10/10 12:31:41 3127 Multi Stream: Volume [<info_redacted>] with size [4498793623552] and directory count [3204] has average directory size [1404117860.034956] less than [20 GB] (21474836480 bytes).Will be run on single stream as traditional NDMP backup.Is there an additional setting that allows the criteria to be ignored and thus multi stream?I am thinking sNDMPUseNetAppAutoStream , however, I believe this is just to overwrite the Java GUI settings and force Multi Streaming on subclients where it has not been enabled from the subclient properties.Thanks in advanced

O365 Mailbox backup configuration from CommCell Console

Hi,I’m trying to configure the O365 mailbox backup, which using Azure AD. From BOL (FR20), I understands that the configuration only from Command Center. But there is also configuration from CommCell console below the topic. The reason why I want to configure through Console is that I want to use existing storage policy. If I configure through Command Center, I need to create a plan, which also require its own ddb. I don’t have any disk for new ddb, hence I want to use existing SP with ddb.So can I follow the console configuration (which got lot more steps), or I can only configure through CommandCenter?regards,Fauzi

Command line query the status of a MediaAgent

Are there any command line (qscript?) methods to query the state of a MediaAgent (on-line/maintenance mode)?From time to time things get busy at the end of a maintenance window and the MA is stranded in maintenance mode. I’d like to scan all MAs at the end of the business day and flag any that are in maintenance mode, or put them into service.Thanks.Marc

Restore Microsoft SQL 2016 Databases - from Intellisnap Snapshots from Windows Cluster volumes

When I try to restore any database that was backed up using Commvault / Intellisnap operation, I get an error indicating the disk is in Read Only mode.The snap is presented to the cluster node - seen by Windows Disk Management and Diskpart The Cluster Management doesn’t see the disk, so I can’t put in maintenance mode The cluster.exe is nolonger available in Server 2016 I need to put the disk in maintenance mode to allow the CV restore to proceedDoes anyone have an exact powershell script or method to finish this process?Is there another way to restore SQL databases to the Cluster Source disk if it was backed up using snapshots???

SQL Restore option

Good morning all I’ve had a strange request from a customer and I don’t know if it can be actioned.We run SQL agent backups on a set schedule and restore DB’s as one normally would. The DBA would like to know if there is a way to take the DB backup we have and restore it as a *.bak flat file. The reason for the request is that disk space on the client is constrained anda *.bak file will be compressed.Thanks in advance. Regards,Mauro

Remove Incremental backup in Plan

Good morning allI”m using a Plan to configure backup policies, etc.I would like to disable the option to do Incremental backups and only run Fulls. I’ve not been able to do this within the Plan. I need to go into the GUI and disable it in the Schedule.The Plan does update with an ‘invalid data’ error, which isn’t a massive issue. However, I’d prefer to use a Plan setting to disable this. Am I missing something?I’ve attached a copy of my current setting and not made the chante yet.
