While trying to delete a domain entry (name server entry) under domain and organization in security, commvault shows a confirmation dialog box “This operation permanently deletes all clients and their associated data for the selected Name Server. Are you sure you want to delete the selected Name Server ?”  what does this really imply?The validation check kept failing with verification error stating either credentials are wrong or the provider couldn’t be contacted for verification, hence we created a new entry for the same domain and validation check is successful on that.I want to get rid of the old entry for which the validation is failing. Hi there, Since we upgraded to 11.24 from 11.20 I’ve noticed all our linux servers fail to have quiesced backups (windows servers are fine). We use openvmtools on the linux servers so I’m surmising that commvault thinks vmware tools isn't installed on the linux servers and performs a non quiesced backup? Manually taking a quiesced snapshot in Vmware for any of these servers works fine. I’m wondering is this normal behaviour? Cheers!Maurice

Hi All,Two years before we implemented the Commvault HyperScale 1.5 Refernce Architecture on top of HPE 4200 Hardware.  Our CS running on VM with 11.19 and MA configured in HyperScale 6 Node with RHEL 7.7  I am planing to upgrade the OS and CV version. When I browse the documentation page, I came across one more product terminaloy HyperScale X.I couldn’t figureout following factors, and looking a advice who is working in similar setup.What is techinical  difference between Hyperscale refernce architecture X and 1.5? Any use cases where I need a situation to move from 1.5 to X? Can I upgrade HyperScale 1.5 to X in the same Hardware without distrub data? Can you upgrade the OS and CV version in the same 1.5 without jumping into X ?Your assistance would be appriciated.  Thanks,Mani

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, the Commvault server initiates the backup of the client, correct?  Is there a client agent that can tell the Commvault server when to be backed up? Thanks.

Hi Is it possible to exclude files from a long time retained backup.We have one plan which is retained forever. But there was not specified any filters on the servers when they started to build up retention.So now if I exclude areas on the different servers, then this data will be excluded on new backup jobs. But we will have a lot of data saved which can not be removed?

Hi, I have a question regarding magnetic disk library setup and how will it affect restores. So what is being in the thoughts:Library has for example 4 media agents assigned to it; Each media agent would have own mount path provided from SAN; We would then share mount paths between media agents (exportfs (NFS..)) Local to media agent mount path would have Read/Write access and other media agents who have that mount path as a shared one would have Read access Transport Type would be Regular Mount paths would have spill and fill for load balancing With this setup a question came: what will happen if backup_1 was backed up into media_agent_1 out of 4 media agents used in that library, and this media agent is offline - can we still restore data from backup_1 with other 3 remaining media agents? At this point looks like a no - because mount paths to which backup_1 has been done is offline, so how can other media agents in the library be used for a restore? Can this work? If not - can you su

Recently Microsoft changed the default storage replication of my region from lrs to zrs. This increasing our storage costs by a lot.Is there any way in Commvault that i can choose which one to use? Today i think commvault is using the azure´s default.

The Primary copy stored in the On-Prem and Aux copy moving to Tape.Daily Backup - 35 days (On-Prem and Cloud)Weekly Full - 6 Weeks (On-Prem and Cloud)Montlhly Full - 1 Year (Cloud)Annual Full - 5 Years (Cloud) Now, there is a proposal to change the Retention for Daily and weekly to 90 days and 12 weeks respewctivily in the cloud alone. I want to predict the following factors.What is my daily data change rate What is the expected immediate storage growth due to propossed retention  How much I need to pay additionally according new policy. Hope most of you came across the situtaion and looking some inptu to calculate the values.

Hello everyone,I have a very slow throughput with a specific database, the average restore throughtput is 60gb/hr, with a size of 1.5tb, this restore is taking 25 hours to complete. Our SAP database has 8tb and take 20 hours.I already changed the VDI to 2000 and nothing.How can i identify the problem with this database?   

For intellisnap in VMaware, from where can I get the ESX proxy features to perform the snap? Specifically when I configure in this part Access Node ESX Server. 

Hello,I’m sure it’s not possible to restore from tape in a foreign Commcell without a DR Backup applied to the new Commcell but I’m not able get this information in Commvault documentation. I’m sure I have already seen this information. I don’t really understand what the difference is b/w these two options, Media Kit - Join an Existing Commcell or Full Media Kit. Basically when I tried to update a media agent from 11.24.19 to v11.25.14 using the advance option, it failed. Now the Media Agent is offline and fails to update while other MA’s it worked OK. So of these selections, which one should I try on the MA that failed to update?    

Trying to add a Nimble array. I orignally had to wrong IP address in the Array Management. I changed the IP but the error messages kept reflecting the old IP. I deleted the Array Management entry and created a new one but the jobs keep referencing the old IP. Hi allWe’re just in the process of starting a migration of user mailboxes from Domino to O365 Exchange and I’m working on setting up our Commcell 11 SP16 HPK136 instance to backup the new exchange mailboxes. So far  I think I’ve followed these destructions correctly :Prerequisites for the Exchange Mailbox Agent User Mailbox Office 365 with Exchange Using an On-Premises Active Directory Environment (commvault.com)But if I go to the “User Mailbox” in the agent tree, and go to Mailboxes → New Association → User, click the Configure button and try to Discover, I get the error :Failed to begin discovery. Could not connect to any of the given proxies. As best as I can remember, I’ve added no “Proxies”. Can someone point me to where to look in the logfiles to get more information about what might be causing this, or the bit in the documentation I need to recheck  ?TIA Simon

I’v Storage policy enabled or few clients with the following precedence’s with the different storage frequency and retention period  bu when the schedule policy the client has only monthly backup’s enabled every month 1st at 12 AM so i wold like to know how dash copy and primary copy will work for the since there is no schedule daily or weekly , is following precedence’s applicable for the client? if so how dash copy will work  as there is no daily or weekly backup’s. Dash copy : every weekly on Sunday at : 12:AMTape : monthly  primary dash copy tape copy

Hello ! Today is the day when I am trying to deploy my first Media Agent on Azure, and it’s a linux one ! CV v11.24.29, and using RHEL 8.5 as OS.I copied the full sources to the MA, went root, used interactive install, chose to add : fs / fs core Media agentStorage AcceleratorVSA All the process seem to be OK,  I input the Commserve FQDN, goes on, I am also provided with the list of Plans to use (I select none), register with authcode, looks OK , but the Registering part takes long, then ends up a few minutes later (10 or so) with a Installation completed successfully.But no commvault processes fire up. No special logs in my logfiles folder, thought I get multiple messages in the install.log file during that time : Register/Update client request is pending on the client sideThen it stops to repeat when the ‘installation completed successfully’,and get those :  Moving file /etc/CommVaultRegistry/Galaxy/Instance001/install.xml to /logi/cv/commvault/installer Installation completed with E

Doing some work around DR and I have a quick question, I created some backups and stored this on a data domain virtual edition. Whether this is relative not sure.?The data domain virtual edition has had retention lock set which essentially creates a copy of the mtree where the data is stored. We as part of testing have deleted the backups from Commvault and data aging has been run so the backups are no longer available. The retention lock feature allows me to run a command to restore the data back to the original location on the Mtree.The question is simple can I recover the data from the Data Domain and re-catalog the backups into Commvault?Dave Edwards

(11.24.29)In the moment we have started to automate all basics thing like:Add Hypervisor + VM Group Add CLoud Storage Create Plan/ Storage Policies / Schedule etcSo we can do an Onboarding of new Customer with basic VSA Backup fully automated is the goal. What we are looking for is to Setup the Remote Software Cache for each Customer via API. But we could not find anything regarding Software Cache and API. Has anyone an idea how to do it via API? Or has anyone another solution to do it automated? Thanks & BRMarcel
