Hi all! Jobs related with storage policy, that backs up data directly to the tape (primary copy to the tape) start with failing error output No resources/ No Resource: AllocatedHowever, there should be enough tapes in the scratch pool. Nothing useful found in logs of the job.Do you have any ideas what could be wrong there?

ok, so I’m trying out activate - file storage optimization, with a tenant admin user.I gave the tenant admin the data controller permission on the index server & of course on activate.The tenant admin can create the plan just fine, but the ‘inventory’ part is a problem.If I click add inventory , I can fill in the name, I can select the index_server, but the name server...nothing is there in the drop down box (if I just press save without name server, nothing is being created.Any idea what I’m missing?   

We have a multi-tenant environment running on vSphere 7, backing up to Commvault 11.21 with VSA. Some of the tenant networks have no DNS service. Some of them have no domain, only Windows workgroups. Some of the tenant VMs without DNS require agent backups.I know we can work around this with host file entries on the client, and substituting client IP addresses for client FQDN on the CommServe. We want a more permanent solution that allows us to migrate the CommServe and MediaAgents without needing to update host files.If I deploy a Commvault Network Proxy Appliance to each tenant network, what hostnames and IP addresses will still need to be resolved? Does the client then only need to forward- and reverse-lookup the network proxy? 

I know I should remember how to do this but I’ve failed to find the BoL doc which speaks to this objective. For a long time we’ve only done selective fulls to tape. Can someone remind me or point me to the directions for moving away from the selective fulls to “if the associated clients did an incremental last night, copy the incremental changes to tape, and if the client had a synth full run, copy that to tape as a full” -- in our case weekly synth fulls, no SILO of course. Does this require 2 separate aux copies in the SP? I don’t necessarily care about keeping the weekly full jobs on separate media, I’d actually just like to keep filling them day by day and have them age off accordingly.thanks

Hello, What is the default retention  when Commvault ask aws to take snapshot ?I think that  they’re deleted by commvault after a period  but when ? Thank you !

Hi CVcommunity, I do have a question and maybe some of you could point to what first steps should be taken to perform the following: We have backup jobs tha are failing with error codes such as ‘Waiting for services to come online’, ‘Error encountered when closing virtual device. Please see SQL server vdi.log for more details’ and etc. - Most of those jobs usually are fixed by simply resubmitting the job or resubmitting it after restarting client services….Is there an option that Commcell could run a workflow itself when job fails with such failure reason?Workflow should restart client services and resubmit the job.

hi, i was wondering if is expected that the an ad groups users are automatically managed by commvault?a customer noticed after removing a user from a group that it was still in the user group according to commvault, even after a succesfull sync.and i could not find a statement in the docs which says that it will automatically remove user if they are disassociated from the group in ad.  so we used the above sync now button which was succesfull.and we expected a user which is not in the ad group to be removed:but it is still listed there.so i was wondering is that expected?  kind Regards, Thos Gieskes.

Hello,We are experiencing some problems related to the restore part(FS/SQL)in the sense that even if we have some firewall rules set up in place(inbound/outbound on MA,clients,commserver via proxy server)and the backup is made using a separate backup network card configured on proxy server and clients, the restore part still seems to be made via LANUnfortunately this problem with the restore made over LAN causes us a lot of problems in the sense that sometimes the firewall crashesIs there anyway to avoid this and force the restore to be made using the dedicated backup vlan?

My openstack based public cloud instance backups which I am trying to configure for the first time, keeps on failing with error : To back up an OpenStack instance, select a Virtual Server Agent proxy that is running as an instance in the OpenStack environment. I have even tried using a seperate VSA instance deployed on my tenant but error still remains. What could be the issue.

Hi,We need to secure the communication between the commserve components and our vcenters. SSL will no longer be used in our vmware vsphere platform. We must use TLS 1.2 minimum.We use some Network topology but only those created at the commserve livesync activation.if i need to create a secure communication between Commserve and  Vcenter what option should i use to be sure using TLS ?kind regards,christophe

Hi!Started a pruning job (DDB → All Tasks). Checked the Logs on the MA, pruning is running.Checked the Ressource Monitor - CPU is low, Memory is low, Disk usage is low. So can i increase the pruning performance?

Hi, What is the difference between “size on media” and total “data written”?  If i look at the commvault documentation i find this:Size on Media:Displays the size of all chunks of data stored in the media.Total Data Written:The size of the data that is stored on the media.https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=9495.htm#o9497I don’t understand how it’s possible that “size on media” is larger than “total data written” 

hi,Another question regarding the “Backup job summary” report.Our problem is that the report is just too big. For a tenant, the backup report is about 70MB. (one month), which is just to big to send via email. (and for external customers, we just need to email...)Same for the html version, but there the compression is saving a lot of bytes.Now, my question: The (standard) report contains “Databases in SQL Server and Sybase Backup Jobs”, which is also part of the “Job Details”. So that’s duplicate data, and not really usefull if the customer has other databases too. (then it doesn’t make sens to only have the SQL server & Sybase jobs in a reperate sections)Is there a way that we can exclude the “Databases in SQL Server and Sybase Backup Jobs” information from the backup job summary report for a tenant? This way we could save a lot of space in this report.As it’s a standard report, I don’t think we can modify it?

I have a question. We have a Azure storage account container “backup” added as Cloud Storage Library in Commvault. This storage account and container is provisioned in Commvault as CL_Backup library. Can I create an additional container in the same storage account, name it “newbackups” and add it as a separate library in Storage Resources called CL_SecondaryBackups for example?I’m trying to leverage data cost savings in Azure by using the same storage account but with multiple containers.

I am using a POST against the /Jobs endpoint to get all backup results. It’s filtered by JobType 4,5 and 14.Now i checked my SAP HANA Backups and realized that there are no LogBackups but i can see them when i’m using the job history in comcell console.Are there any more job types i should use in my filter to get all types of backups and restores?

Hello,we have created a test Azure blob space library which should be used for deduplicated secondary copy. There is an immutable policy set on the container. According to Commvault documentation we set the container retention twice the value that has the storage policy copy retention, then in the DDB properties “create new DDB  every [] days” to value of storage policy copy retention. During the backup cycles, there remain sealed DDB’s, which don’t reference any job (all expired). Then someday they are indefinitively automatically removed (and then their baseline from cloud storage space). These baselines in the cloud consume very lot space (and costs). There are 3 to 4 baselines in the cloud during the backup cycles.Please has somebody experience with cloud library deduplication (with immutable blobs) ?  Is really more then 3 times more space necessary for the backup ? Which process in Commvault decides, when the sealed DDB will be removed ?After test we would like to give a realisti
