Backup Cloudian S3 Bucket (source) to other library (dest)

We need to backup S3 buckets residing on Cloudian as platform.According to the ‘Essentials’ documentation the repository can be added in the AdminConsole under Protect > Object storage.But in our Console of v11.28.14 there is no “Object Storage” - are we missing a license?So I switched to the ‘Expert’ documentation, which outlines everything for the Java CommCell Console.I was able to create the pseudo-client for the Cloud Apps and create an instance, pointing to our Cloudian system at https://s3-somethingAs ‘Authentication Type’ I use ‘Access and secret keys’ and prepared beforehand in the Credential Manager a ‘Cloud Account’ with vendor type ‘Cloudian HyperStore’ and filled in Access- and Secret Key.But to my surprise, the Credential drop-down only lists credential of the type “Amazon Web Services(Access&Secret Keys)” - so of what use is the Cloudian-Type?Long story short: despite it seems to be able to read the content of the bucket (get/dir, /fileList) it copies nothing and

Should I access the CommCell Utility installed directly on the CommServe Server

We are currently accessing our Java GUI CommCell Console and SQL Server Management Studio, installed directly on the CommServe Server. According to the link found below, CommVault recommends installing these Management Utilities on a Proxy server, as the extract hereafter specifies:“Do not log on to the CommServe or MediaAgent computer directly. Instead, do the following:Use a virtual machine proxy computer that has the JAVA GUI and SQL Management Studio installed.Log on to the CommCell Console, and then access the MediaAgent computer.”https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=7885_1.htm Is this indeed the recommended practice, or are we okay leaving and accessing the CommCell Console directly on the CommServe Server (we are not accessing the Media Agents directly for management purposes)?Thank you. J

SQL Server 'sa' user password problem when installation the trial version

Hi All.I download the last package - a trial version - for evaluate the Commvault performance.When I did try to install the package, arrive at one point when the installation process request me to insert the ‘sa’ password.I created one Windows server (2019 standard version) ad hoc for this test. After the installation of the Operative System how first product I did install Commvault.On this server don’t exist other additional middleware program.When I arrive at the moment that the installation program request me to insert the “sa” password I did try to insert different options without success.Actually I can’t continue with the installation program.I did try to looking for other possibilities for set the password of SQL Server, without success too.I would like to know how can I make for fix this problem for finish the process installation.THanks in advance.Best RegardsRicardo

VTL 2.0

Hi, does anyone has experience with VTL 2.0 feature?https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/135517_commvault_vtl_20.htmlWe tried to install the RPM but this already failed with this error:error: too many arguments to function ‘blkdev_issue_flush’ I was able to fix this with rebuilding the RPM and software is running now.Now WebUI is running, but I´m not able to add users for login:/commvaultvtl/bin/vtuser -a -u admin -p <password>Invalid user name/commvaultvtl/bin/vtuser -a -u vtladmin -p <password>Failed to add user. Problem with client name after Commcell server switch

Hello,We recently moved Commvault/Commcell to a new server (same domain) because the old one did not have enough place on it for the disks backups.We had it installed on a server named SPGEOFS01We moved it (the technician) on new server called SVGEOCVCSNow, the name on the new client still is SPGEOFS01 I want to add the old Commvault server that still exists and was wiped to host data (SPGEOFS01) But I get conflicts since the name has not changed to SVGEOCVCS everywhere and it tells me that the client already exists.Did our technician do something wrong during the switch ? How can I fix this ? He says it can be days before he finds a solution. Thank you for your help,Felix

Backup media library high availability using Commvault and GCP multi-region GCP storage buckets

As a part of the architecting media library for GCP cloud to ensure redundancy, availability across regions, low latency, and cost optimization have selected GCP cloud storage multi region nearline buckets.Considerations:In GCP there are 4 types of storage class and differentiated in terms of cost of storage, location, retrieval, and operations, you can choose best as per your requirement for retention data.For high availability of storage, GCP provides multi-regional buckets in which objects are geo-redundant stored redundantly in at least two separate geographic places separated by at least 100 miles. As multiregional storage is geo redundant no need to setup secondary copy for high availability purpose this will also save the storage cost. full backups are not start

Hello. Volumes were combined on the storage, the size of the two volumes became more than 50 tb. And now, out of 8 volumes, 2 volumes are not running full backups and even increments are not starting. Job starts, but progress stands still.

I’m Looking to create an aux copy to an AWS S3 bucket from ON Prem hyperscalers.  What are best practices in terms of enabling WORM on the bucket?  Is there anything that needs to be done with the ddb on the hyperscalers in terms of operations/maintenance?  Thanks.

Alicloud and Commvault

Hi All, I have some question about Commvault on Alicloud.Currently, all my CommServe, media agent and clients are On Prem. As i plan to do restoration for my On Prem backup to Alicloud ECSI have done create Proxy VM at Alicloud ECS.Next, i wish to know what port should be open in order my On Prem data able to restore to Alicloud ECS. And which server need to open those port.

AWS - Commvault - Cassandra Backups

We had a working Cassandra backup (6 nodes) in a production VPC.  Recently DBA’s added “DR nodes” from a different DC as part of the cluster.  Now the backup is picking up all nodes and failing.  Is there away to restrict what nodes we will be backing up?  Basically nodes from dc1 are porduction and dc2 are DR.  we only want to backup dc1.Thanks for any help you can give.Chuck

Exchange 2019 DB Backup failure due to VSS

Hello Team, We are configuring Exchange 2019 DB backup, while running backup it's showing an VSS related errors.The exchange DAG is configured IP less and without DNS feature. While adding DAG client in commcell is successfully added and discover DB also with out any issue. We checked DAG client check readiness, its showing communication error. Please advise any specific configuration needed for DAG IP less feature.

Unable to perform CV Failover due to error about sqladmin_cv login

I am completed a setup of CV failover and configured Livesync. the logshipping backup was successful and replication to standby CV is also successful. Then trying to perform failover to standby CV. During CV failover process the operation is failing due to Connecting to the database failed - error returned was Login failed for user sqladmin_cv.Then I tried to reset the password of sqladmin_cv from SQL Server management studio but still failed to complete the failover due to login.Would anyone has an idea on how to fix the issue?

Upgrade from version 11.20 to 11.26 (Latest release)

Hi,We are planning to upgrade our commvault software version 11.20.46 to the latest 11.26.x (If still supported). Below are our inquiry. If our active Capacity license can cover to perform or assist us on the upgrade by the help of CV Support team? Under Commcell Environment Upgrades documentation, we can see a lot of information's about the upgrade and procedures. Being new to this backup software this cause confusion. Is there a way to provide a specific upgrade procedure base from our current setup/environment including compute requirements? (see our current Commcell environment below) Other component that need to upgrade and procedure as wellOur Commcell Environment:Commvault software version 11.20.46 Target version is 11.20.26 we have a CVFailover in our CommCell environment. Two sites, two Media Agents, two DDBs, each site secondaries to the other, wildly different space usage

So we have two sites… one media agent at each site.  Each site has a Primary backup to that sites’ MA with a secondary going to the other site.   It’s been this way for years. In THEORY, with each site writing to itself and copying to the other, using dedupe/compression… one might think both sides would look roughly the same - as it’s the same “stuff”.  However, one site is ~290TB while the other is 440TB and growing. I’ve talked to support to find out if there was a way to reconcile this difference and, while they were extremely helpful, it seems that life’s answer is “with dedupe and compression, you’re not guaranteed the same size when these things are involved.  You’re just going to have to purchase more space at the larger site”.   Don’t get me wrong - we’re backing up more than a petabyte of data on each site, but it seems like one’s just far less efficient than the other. Has anyone else faced this situation, and how did you deal with it?
