So we have a VM which is over 22TB in size and cannot be backed up by Commvault. We’ve implemented a FS backup, but this still takes considreable time and impacts the VM (in use 24/7) heavily. However, the VMDK has a VMWare live mirror, and we’d like to look at backing that up. Has anyone done this and have any tips? Is there a reason it cannot be done? Lastly, I dont’ see why this wouldn’t be possible, but file/folders can still be extracted, yes? Thank you for any advice! Mike
Hello Commvault Community, We have this situation:On the switches, there are many attempts to connect agents with OS AIX installed to the Commvault infrastructure (the customer reported mainly that connections are being made to an air-gapped).The environment has OneWay Firewall configured (not by topology but on group properties). There are two large groups: the 'Client Servers' group containing all production agents, and the 'Commvault servers' group containing all Commvault infrastructure (except the air-gap server, which does not participate in backups). On these groups a Network Route is configured, on Client Servers the Commvault Servers group is added as RESTRICTED and on the Commvault Servers group the Client Servers group is added as BLOCKED.That is, it is the CV Infrastructure that should maintain a one-way tunnel with the production agents, not the other way around.Unfortunately, for some reason AIX clients (only AIX, because in the logs of several Windows doesn’t show these
An IP address has changed to a linux cluster we are backing up. Do I have to login to one of the cluster nodes to change it? or can i change it through commcell.I am familiar with a change of IP address for a windows cluster not linux Thanks for any replies
Our Commvault users are given access via an AD user group. That AD user group is set to have MFA enabled and therefor all our users make an MFA enabled login. In our domain there is also a user group for MFA excepted users. So now I would like to leave MFA enabled for the users that have commvault access (the commvault user group)But disable MFA for the commvault users that are also in the MFA disabled group. Is this possible?
By accident someone deleted the backup job summary template and lost 75 scheduled reportsDoes anyone know how I can recover them?
This just started a week or so ago. The Commserve shows libraries for a particular media agent server as “marked not ready”. Looking into the cvfwd file on both servers shows the following. On MA:”ERROR: Connection from <commserver. to localhost:50580 is being denied due to not matching a configured whitelist and due to no services listening on this port.”There are actually 4 error lines for each instance. “validate(), “do_connect_client90(), and two with “Client connection failed….”In the cvfwd file on the commserve, there are similar ERROR messages. After a minute or two, the libraries are “now marked ready” and I can see an established connection on that port (50580).Do not see this on other MA servers. The MA and Commserve server are in the same IP subnet.Does not appear to be traffic related, as this will occur while nothing is going on between them. And does not appear to be impacting functionalityAny suggestions or hints?.
Dear Support Team,Greetings!!We have Commvault server, which is on hard disk, now I need to move it to SSD. So how can it be done? And if we take a new server, then the running server as it is file and whatever configuration will be transferred to that new server, then the same has to be copied. And the existing server has to be removed after moving backup old to new. So is this possible? ThanksAmol.
Is there a way to find out who made changes to a backup schedule? We are using Commvault v.11
Hi, do I need to run DDB Verification job to physically prune those DDB Prunable Blocks? What exactly triggers the purging of this data? Is there any Commvault script to trigger this data purge manually?
Hello Commvault Community, I would like to ask about one of the scenarios that I am currently observing and I have some concerns and uncertainties. There was an Exchange Mailbox (Classic) configuration in the environment a few years ago and it was turned off a few years ago (around 2017), but the retention for archiving jobs is Infinite - data is kept and available on Storage all the time. Machines responding to this configuration from the VMware side have been completely deleted and cannot be recovered. With archiving jobs still available on Storage and another alternative MediaAgent with the Exchange package, are we able to recover data from Storage? Is there a configuration required for this that was originally used and there is no other option/workaround? Restoring the mailbox should go to a PST file (the mailbox size is +/- 2GB) I need information whether, without the available infrastructure referring to the Exchange Mailbox (Classic) configuration, we are able to recover a singl
Wondering if commvault makes use of metadata query API of S3 Storage for any of its operations?
This is not necessarily an issue since my tape copies are working and tape library is configured. However I when I look at the library, all my drives have ma01 as my active controller. I have 3 other active media agents. How do I balance having MA01 to only be active to drives 2 and 3, then MA02 drives 4 and 5 and so on?Pretty sure I had this changed before on a old library but cant remember how to change it. Thanks
can we schedule separate backup for application only which is part of app aware backup , like , vsa with app aware - once in a day and application every two hours
Hi,Is there a way in 11.32.38 we can check what all VMs from the vCenter client are not yet protected/backed up by any subclient to our cloud library?
I have configured Edge Drive in my Commvault environment, and I have connected a laptop client to it. However, the synchronization status remains stuck on ‘preparation.
We are migrating clients with their LTR backups on tapes to the new Commcell. Question: what happens to the retention rules? will they be applied in the new CS and aged as per retention rules?
I have a customer that installed trend micro deep security on his commserve 11.24.65and He receive this error in ddb verification: and also He received this alert in his mailbox:maybe do I need to exclude File extensions ? I think This is the document that talking about it: https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/essential/antivirus_exclusions_for_windows.html ?or maybe I need to use another document to exclude file extensions ?Best Regards.
Hi All,i can’t find in the documentation how to configure secure access on a web service for a linux Web server.the documentation seems to be only available for windows webserver.is there a documentation for securing linux webserver ?regards,
Hello Commvault Community, I would like to know about the type of operation in the /Base/JobControl directory and the contents stored there. The environment runs on ServicePack 28 (Commvault Platform Release 2022E) Scenario:- I have a production server with a database CV agent installed- Schedule Policy based on weekly full backups and frequent incremental backups (logs - 30 minutes for example)- The backup jobs themselves perform and finish fine, they dont report any errors/failures On the production server, in the /opt/commvault/xyz/base/jobcontrol directory, there are hundreds/thousands of small 1KB files called e.g. 0.01, 1.75, 2.35, etc., which are not cleaned up after the job is completed. Some of these files are kept for many months and are not deleted. What is in these files and should they be kept for so long or should they be deleted after the backup job is completed?I am afraid that after some time the number of these files will grow so large that there will be no space. Thank
Hello,I try restore messages from Exchange backup and I see on log next messages:I see this error when I try restore over “create recovery point” and “recover messages from an offline database”. All requirements for restoration have been satisfied.
Is the consumption of Operating Instances (500GB capped) counted based on the total capacity of a host or the backup data transaction size per job?For example, if a physical server has a total capacity of 1TB and is used for SQL databases with a backup data size of around 200GB per job daily, how many OI licenses are needed for this scenario if the customer wants to use OI licenses? I'd like to clarify whether it's based on the total capacity of the server or the backup data size per-job transaction.
Background:Running on Commvault 11.28.xI have a folder that basically like this that is needing to have all files and folders in it backed up and its not backing up anything, even though there are files/folders inside it.The path is: \\folder1\folder2\Some Folder [1010-00909]NOTE: This folder is a Windows file share, not *nixCurrently I have this in the ‘Content’ configuration in the subclient, which just has a \ at the end of the path: \folder1\folder2\Some Folder [1010-00909]\Question 1: I was under the impression that you had to put a ‘\’ at the end of a file share path and this would cause all files/folders to be backed up inside the folder. Looking at the online docs: Wildcards for the Windows File System Agent (commvault.com) It does not list using ‘\' at the end, but does show (in a roundabout way) that you need to use 3 asterisks ‘***’ at the end of a folder to backup up all files/folders? Is this ‘the correct way” to so this or is using ‘\’ at the end ok (maybe this is depreca
Hello community, The disk library has 4 mountpaths connected via fiber channel. Unfortunately, one of these has hit a snag and is beyond repair, which might cause issue when browse/recover backup data. While we could consider running a full backup for all servers tied to this lib, but it's not exactly our top choice. Question:How to pinpoint the affected clients on the faulty mount path and find the oldest backup history for these clients? (do need open a support case and upload CS DB ?)Once I've got that info, I can kick off fresh full backups just for those clients and also manually age data based on the backup history findings. thanks
Hello,we are currently discussing internally whether Commvault can be an alternative to Dell's AppSync product. AppSync was presented to us as being able to create immutable snapshots on the primary storage array. We have Dell VPLEX in use, with Dell Powerstores in the backend. As we are already using Commvault, our idea was to create the snapshots via Intellisnap. Do any of you know whether you can also give the snapshots the immutable flag via Commvault, as AppSync does?
Hi all I have a two part question. I have 2 storage libraries which replicate from Production to DR. Commvault isn’t aware of this replication and therefore the DR library is effectively a ‘dumb’ copy.If I get the Replica Disk Library working, will the existing data on the DR copy be visible to Commvault, or only newly replicated data post creation of the Replica Library creation? Regarding the creation of the Replica Disk Library, I’ve run into some issues whereby I create it and the data isn’t visible. This is currently being done in a Lab environment so as to not interfere with the customer’s data. I somehow need to configure Commvault at the customer’s site that’ll allow it to recognise the replicated data that it hasn’t been managing. According to the documentation, the following steps should be completed. https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=146761.htm I’ve created a Production MA with storage assigned and a DR MA with it’s own storage. I then went thr
