We introduced a new storage library in our Commcell and I am trying to copy some backup jobs over to the new library by creating a new Copy in storage policy. Initially I disabled the Data Aging option in the retention tab of the new copy. The goal was to stop the data aging from this new copy so I can compare job numbers in this new copy with job numbers in the old copy to ensure that all backup jobs have been copied over. Now when I enable the data aging and set extended retention rules, it doesn't look like it is being applied to existing backup jobs that have been copied to this new copy. Does anyone know how I can set the extended retention rules to existing jobs?
Hi Team, Question:Why can't I define retention for Storage policy in Laptop Plan created in Command Center? The question arises from the fact that the created SP is created for 90 days/1 cycle by default, which keeps the retention of incremental and synthetic backups for the entire days period despite synthetic backups being made. The DataRetentionForecastandComplianceReport shows that backups are kept for basic days - excerptHere is the view of the jobs sorted by Synthetic Full due to the large number of jobs:This increases the capacity for Storage and DDB.By creating a configuration from Commcell Console, I am able to configure it appropriately, but the client wants to use only the plans created in Command Center. Please help and explain Regards,Piotr Grzegorek
I have created a powershell script using powershell sdk module to run multiple vm level backups which runs the backup but when i use the same powershelll script inside a workflow it doesnt work for some reason giving me message : I NFO: Get-CVClient: client not found having id [0]. Is there some limitation or something wrong the way i am passing the scrip inside workflow.
Hi Vaulters, As per our customer concern, they have a Tape Library, which they want to use with a new MA that will be deployed, the main thing is that they hesitate which is the best way to deploy the MA (Virtual or Physical). The main points are as follows :Virtual : Easy deployment, HA provided by VMware Layer, but complex configuration with the Tape Library. Physical : Easier to deploy with the Tape Library since it can be directly attached, but no HA.Does anyone already faced this situation ? And what’s the recommended infra for the MA ? Even when it comes to performance. Regards.
Hello,There is a post related to the hardware refresh we want to perform but there are references to the HA installation with LiveSync configured. What would be the correct order to perform such task? Should LiveSync be dismantled and HW refresh carried out on a standalone host and then LiveSync setup again?Just for clarification as the post title might be misleading, HW refresh of both primary and standby commsrv instances. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hi We are setting up an EC2 access node in AWS to take backups from our Aurora Postgres estate. We use Amazon Linux 2 for all our EC2 deployments - but it seems for Aurora PostgreSQL its not supported. Why is it OK for Aurora MySQL but not Aurora PostgreSQL??? It seems a bit odd that the linux OS offered by AWS wouldn’t be supported. We would prefer to avoid RHEL as it would have cost / license implications (we use RHEL for on-prem deployments) and CentOS is a discontinued Linux distribution. Additionaly RHEL7 is a 10 years old OS that ends maintenance support in June 2024We are extremely keen to avoid windows because:(1) It stores Temp files on the access node will taking backup - (we are finding that failed jobs don’t clean up the temp files and eventually fill the temp space) - we want the data to just pass through the node - and not provision an expensive big EBS volume - we will be backing up multiple TB’s every night(2) It involves extra annoying configuration from our end to jo
Goal is to migrate exchange v2 archived backups from disk library A to B (no tape involved). With that environment we allow users to access webconsole so that they can restore deleted emails if needed. My guess is that during the Aux Copy emails continue to be visible through webconsole without any impact there?!? Once I Aux Copy from Primary to the Secondary copy, I also assume that the promotion of the secondary copy to primary will then be the used by all the exchange indexing servers?Media agents/Exchange Access Nodes/Index and Wenconsole are all separate servers.Generally I would just follow the process listed on the links but wanted to check with the community and see if I am missing anything here. We have a fairly large amount of backups to move (over 150TB) and I want to make sure I`m covering everything before I start.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.23/expert/118965_creating_synchronous_copy_using_storage_pool.htmlhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.23/expert/13931_s
SQL DBAs want to be able to create Availability Group clients for themselves, and I’m all for it.However, they don’t have the New Client button in the ribbon that I have (I have the ‘master’ role). I have been looking for what permissions to assign to a role for them but haven’t worked it out yet.I have read Books Online (which caters for Command Center we don’t use) and have found nothing there to help.DBAs can backup and restore SQL clients no problem, now I need them to create AGs. Can anyone help with what role needs to be defined for this? Thanks
Hi, We had our Oracle RAC being backup by the Commvault. The backup is running ever since with any config changes or past issue but suddenly our DB team complaining of latency issue due to Commvault is doing backup of data in node which is the active which consume a lot of memory and cpu resources of the DB servers. The DB is questioning why the backup is performed in the node 1(active) as they assume it runs in node 2 before that is why no latency issue encountered in their end. The challenge question to Commvault is is there a way the backup process is deviating from doing backup from one node to do it in another node automatically? What is the behavior of Commvault Oracle RAC backup, where the data is read to which node and is there a way to change it by default to read in another node of the cluster?
Hello Guys, I need space in my Commvault environment, so can i remove job that expired(Retain Unitl) ?I thing this job was supposed to have been removed and i can reclaim space.Another thing:There are backup jobs in a Three different locals, 2 in File library and one in tape library.Another question: Can i remove the backup job to the Files libraries?
Hi Team,Actually the clients are Virtual Machine’s and the backup was taken at file system level. Now, after taking snapshot backup of the clients, it is showing as a duplicate entry on client computers. The problem is exclusive to these clients because other clients have also taken VM and FS backups in our commcell. Please help to guide on the same.
What are those Monitoring Policies? And what are they used for?
We are excited to announce a new Hub experience coming to Metallic at the end of the month! Based on your feedback, we are introducing upgrades that simplify navigation, interactions, and overall usability. I have created some new reports and I found out that you can add cvdate to the end of the file name and it adds the date time, wish it only added date but that is fine. What I want to know, can Commvault created a current dated directory to put this in? Right now It goes to a base folder and I have to go create the dated folders. We need this for Audit purposes and just trying to streamline it even more so I can be out and not have to deal with doing a bunch of folders when I get back from vacation. Maybe I have to use a 3rd party way, but hoping Commvault can do it.
I've recently started seeing the "too many concurrent connections" message, which I don't think I’ve seen before.. It seems to have begun popping up in the last couple of weeks. Has anyone else noticed this? Are there any known changes or new restrictions from Microsoft's side?I have 5 azure apps and 10 streams on most of my Exchange backups.Edit: Could it be because we provide the Exchange backup service to so many customers, that the MS365 service is noticing many connections from us, across tenants?
We just noticed MR68 was pulled back and we are running this version and we think based on our monitoring stats that we are impacted. I would have expected a more pro-active solution towards customers. I'm also curious what customers can do who think they are being impacted now as MR68 was the latest maintenance release that is publicly available.
Dear friends,I need your valuable assistance with a technical matter. I have a Plan associated with a Storage Policy, which includes a primary copy to disk. Within this policy, there are various jobs with different dates, some related to virtual machines, and others to SQL Server databases. My goal is to create a secondary copy exclusively for the SQL Server jobs and restrict it to specific recent dates. However, when attempting to run this secondary copy for the desired date range, the initiated job doesn't seem to capture any data, and it does not appear in the list of jobs to copy.I have attached images in the order of how I perform the procedure. If any of you can provide guidance or assistance on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.😊✌🏻 I have successfully executed this process for both Oracle databases and file systems. However, I have encountered a specific issue when attempting to apply it to SQL Server. 1 2 3 4 (In this image as you can see I don't get any SQL Server FU
Hi, I have a three node HSX Reference Architecture stack. On one of the nodes the network card has failed. On this card one port is connected to the Production LAN and the other to the Storage. The node has two network cards configured so my node is still up. I have ordered a new network card but my question is, do I need to do anything after I replace it or will it just be added back to the Bonds ? Thanks
Hello friends,Trying to install first time media agent on active directory server ( newly promoted additional domain controller 2019 server ) .In the credentials section, providing domainname\<domainadmin> and the password and also tried domainname\<administrator> and password but the installation fails with the message.“Failed to install File System Core Package, the credentials entered may not have permission to use WMI on remote machine. Please check WMI configuration and user credentials.while I installed the agent easily for another windows server 2019 joined to domain by using local credentials of the server.”Where am I going wrong. tried even using .\administrator and the password but it makes reason to fail as the server once promoted to domain controller will no longer hold local admin.Any help will be appreciated.
is there a way i could run a report to find out how much space a full monthly or yearly backup is taking up in terms of storage space requirements.
Hi All,I have read all the threads about to check DDB version V4 r V5, but there is no exact answer for checking the DDB version precisely. The threads are old 1 year or more, in the mean time is there any way to view the DDB version V4 or V5 anywhere?i ran the ConvertDDBToV5 workflow but i it says there is nothing to upgrade. Also verifed Dedup properties, the garbage collection option is greyed out.Hence, i would like to know whether my DDB is updated to V5 and why the garbage collection option is greyed out?Thank you in advance
Hi All, short question regardin the point Bandwidth Throttling for a Storage Policy Copy Setting Network Bandwidth Throttling for a Storage Policy Copy (commvault.com) I want to undersatnd what happend when an auxcopy job starts. So in normal case without throttelling we reach 500MB/s during auxcopy between 2 DCs over wan. When the auxcopy job starts we see in the firewall the traffic grows up until the wan connection is done. So when i now throttel the auxcopy to 200MB/s per second we the a lot of peaks in the firewall when the auxcopy job is started. Than it goes down. My question is: When the auxcopy job starts all streams nad the most getted performance is allocated and that the function with the throttel on sp ract and the speed will be limited ?
HiI created a backup job for a VM with deduplication enabled at subclient level selected as “on the client”. Enabled Versioning on the bucket configuration. Took FULL backup twice. But it didn’t create versions of the same backup.Later, I ingested some files inside the VM and retook the FULL backup. Still, No versions created at the bucket level.I then disabled deduplication at the subclient level, retook the full VM backup, it creates more folders in the bucket everytime I initiate backup job.Questions:Does Commvault even leverage versioning feature of the S3 Compatible Storage? If yes, how ? If no, then is it safe to say we can keep it disabled with S3 overwrite enabled? How are more folders getting created when I disable deduplication and taking multiple FULL backups of the same VM (no modification to the file system or anything)? Does Commvault overwrite the existing backup chunk folders on the namespace if a backup is taken twice?
Hi Team,Could you please share the steps of how to configure the Oracle RAC database backup configuration in CommvaultCurrently we are using the commserver version is :11.28.24
