I have VM backup configured at vCenter level.I do have separate service account configured to access the vCenter and it does have Admin level permissions. Now, i do see that the service account do have interactive login enabled. Is it ok to disable the interactive login?will it disrupt any work functionality if disabled?I do see from Knowledge base articles that the account should have Admin level permissions and then we are good to go.Just need this doubt to be clarified before I disable the interactive login.
Hello dears im facing a weird issue regarding redhat virtualization backup client configuration is ok, proxy VM is located on the RHEV backup was performing ok but, suddenly an issue while backing up the VMs most of the VMs failed to back up with the below error Unknown VMInfo error [0] reported from VMinfo for [VM name ] i have checked the vsbkp log but couldn’t find a clear error cvfwd log does not have any errors. CS version 11.32.23assistance is appreciated, thanks
Hi,Could you please explain Media agent licensing in 2023E. Platform release change list contains information regarding Active and Inactive MediaAgents (https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/changes_in_commvault_platform_release_2023e.html).It states that media agents will consume some license when you create some storage. What kind of license is mentioned? For example for setup with per-VM licensing model? Thank you!
Hi, I have a VM which fails, with error failed to get index information from previous backup. The index cannot be accessed. try again later. I have run a full backup. this completes successfully and then ran an incremental backup on this VM and the issue still persists. This issue is only occurs when you run an incremental backup on this one VM. Are there any suggestion we can try?
Hello,Does anyone have a working request body for an out of place restore that goes from Vmware to HyperV?All of the example and docs only talk about going from VMware to Vmware and i cant figure out what all i need to make a valid restore. My main issues right now are i cant seem to get it to cluster the vm, add the nic, or put the vmconfig in the correct place. I can get it to restore the disks to the correct place but the vm config stays in c:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\iDataAgent\JobResults\CV_JobResults\iDataAgent which isnt going to work. Also, even though it does put the disks in the correct place, it also appears to leave\start with a copy in c:\windows\vmwaredatastorename, which isnt good either when the vm is large. Here is what i have so far, like it said, it does restore kinda, but i would like to not have to to write some sort of post-processor to make it all work. Doing it manually works great. Here is what i have so far that i have guessed at from the docs.{"de
We are using a 100M line, and we are currently using a single network to an external DR host as well as a backup.Due to network traffic issues, we had to limit the speed of backups. After looking up the TN, we found that Commvault can be set up the same as QoS using the network throttling function. We understand that this feature will be applied on a policy basis, but we are currently unable to find a place to apply this policy to DRVMs.I'll be waiting for any your comments.Regards
Hi everyone. I am currently testing and documenting the setup of the continuous replication (VAIO) in a test environment. When installing the VAIO filters, I keep getting, “The operation is not allowed in the current state.” I used the built-in administrator too. I can’t open a support ticket as it is not a licensed CS. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this?4300 80 03/07 15:48:59 30 Failed to install IO filter http://VAIO-CS:80/webconsole/downloads/VAIO/cvtblrh/7.0/1.23.4/offline-bundle.zip on cluster WL-dHCI, Error:[The operation is not allowed in the current state.]4300 80 03/07 15:48:59 30 CBlrDrvInstall::Install(480) - Failed to install Head IO filter. Hello11.28.111We are migrating one of our VmWare clusters to Hyper-V (licensing grounds - Broadcom)We have disk filters traditionally on our DB servers, that also do DB Agent backups, to save backing up the data twiceIn the subclient under Vmware, in the VM Disk Filters, you get a ‘Browse’ option, that allows me to select the SCSI ID of a serverIn the subclient under Hyper-V, no browse exists, just ‘Add’Now I can choose a ‘Virtual device node’, but that doesn’t seem to allow me to choose a client, so I assume this is globalThe other option is ‘Virtual Disk name’, which scares me, as this is why I use the SCSI ID, as my VM guys often move servers around, which would make this break! If anyone has experience and ideas on this subject of what we could do, it would be much appreciatedThanksMark
how to do multiple stream restore of a single VM with 10 disk and sized 10 TB.Does CV 11.28 or later version support multiple stream restore for single VM with multiple disk.
As I don’t see a proper place for feature requests (but I’ve somehwen seen already someone asking it for): Can I expect Commvault to support XCP-ng anytime “soon”?https://xcp-ng.org/ is an improved fork of Citrix Hypervisor which has been very focussed on VDI only and heavily ignores needs of general virtualization environments. Citrix has been markedly ignoring any feature requests that have been made towards needed functions.XCP-ng is growing, has an active community, bugtracker and developers but yet it has a small ecosystem of large enterprise backup solutions like Commvault.I really would like to switch over, use that plattform and support them by that - but yet Commvaults supportlist denies that.XCP-ng also uses XAPI and should be very closed for whatever Commvault comes in tough with.A while ago I just tried feeding it with XCP-ng, but it denied it as an unkown or unsupported Version.Regards - Christof
Hey everyone for our VMware environment is it safe to do strictly incrementals and Synthetic Fulls and not do any regular fulls? I see some articles that mention some one way and some the other but just trying to see what everyone recommends
hi guys, i decided, that i move my infrastrucutre backup from veeam to the commvault. i have around 125 VM on VMware cluster ( 5 esx nodes). i the veeam i have a one bakcup job, after sucessfull backup the data is copied to the secondary location and every sunday is full backup (synthetic full) copied to the tape (Quantum Scalar i3 with 2x LTO 8 drives). now i looking for a right way, how to migrate/move to the Commvault. I have already prepared a two physical servers, one is for the commcell and second is for media-agent (direct attached iSCSI 10 GbE 80 TB NTFS and 2x FC 8 GB to tape library. i wanna to some best-practice :) its enought to have one VSA proxy in vmware or is best-practice to have on every esx host the proxy ? from some years ago i know the commcell console, but now is only html5 console ? how to setup the tape jobs and backup copy ? - aux copy its possible to create some tape media pool ? its better to have a one backup job for all vm or separate it for app, app/
How I configure Vmware VSA backup via NBD over backup network? normaly I need NIC pairing between client and MediaAgent to be sure the backup trafic is travelling over backup network, but in this case the ESXi server is delivering the data, how I can do here NIC pairing, as Commvault has only the vCenter server configured?Currently we use proxy server VMs with hot-add, but we want to reduce the VM foot print. We use Vmware and Windows MAs.Commvault version is v11.32.42regards Juergen
Hi All,I have a VM that is >2TB and we have observed both flakiness and slow performance completing backups, and in particular, restores.I have in the back of my mind the notion that CV recommends very big VMs be covered with FS agent (or intellisnap) rather than VSA but cannot find the relevant reference. The VSA best practice ref. does not cover this situation. Can anyone help refresh my memory? Thanks
Dear,Today I back up my environment with volume licenses, now I will use vm package licenses. With this I will change my backup mode from file system to virtual Server.QuestionWill my backup volume change? Is there any calculation to size the storage size of my backup in Virtual Server mode?
When executing what format are the client names?
Hi All, We have many clients that are backing up even in powered off state. As per my knowledge, snapshot should be placed in the datastore and creation of snapshot consider the ESXi host rather than VM (please correct me if I'm wrong). To avoid such scenarios, I found that we have prepared and post process scripts which can be made outside of commvault. Can someone help me on below questionsWhere I can find these scripts? How these scripts works?Do I need to place these scripts in every VSA? Thanks in advance!!
Upgraded to Commvault version 11.34.5. We are running intellisnap backups and AppAware for SQL Since the update SQL AppAware backups do not work the default way for this version, App Consistent. The manifest.zip file that is sent to Commvault from vmware doesn’t contain the xml files needed, Writer.xml. Per Commvautl/VMware this failure is happening on the VM client OS side of things. Has any experienced this issue? Thank you
I need the api that gives the deleted VMs list from the vCenter. As per the document:https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/rest_api_get_virtual_machines.html I should get isDeleted in status info as a response but I didn’t see anything like that when I ran the Get VM api:[redacted]response:[redacted]test VM is already deleted. I need an api that can mention that the VM is deleted on vCenter. So I could go ahead and delete it from commvault.
I’m going to guess nobody has contemplated this unless they’ve been with Commvault for eons, but here’s the situation and end-state goal:We have been archiving files on a couple 2 node clusters running on RHEL for years. The cluster consists of multiple virtual clients(each per application group) and the nodes participating in the cluster use the sVCS_SUPPORT reg key to know there’s plugins and such, and to know who owns what. As part of “reducing complexity”, costs, etc., we need or prefer to remove the clustering components. The HW and OS’s are obsolete so migrating the apps and data to new systems but retaining identical names and IP’s. Archiving works well so want to keep stubs as stub if at all possible. The new (destination) servers have new OS’s and no Veritas at all.Rather than rehydrate/recall all the stubbed content, is it possible to simply shutdown old systems, bring up new, and if the new hosts have the same hostname as the old (and obviously the filesystem agent on it), wil
has anyone had any luck setting up a non vmware snap mount host under advanced options in a subclient? - due to license costs of setting up a non-clustered host (to resolve PDL issues) I am looking for a cost effective solution
I purchase new licence. is this possible to see licence in commvault support portal
We have few VM’s with Thick Lun Provisioning but the actual size of the VM is very small.Let’s say Provisioned capacity is 7TB.But the read size of the VM is 1TB.Does commvault consider 7TB or 1TB of License?
Hii’m using commvault to backup my vmware environment.I have a DR site, and i use commvault to replicate, once a day, vms from main site to DR site.Backup and replication are working well.I applied a 1 month retention and i schedule an daily incremental with a weekly full.Just fews VMs are replicated. On these VMs, i noticed that there is no more weekly full backups. The weekly full was replaced, i guess “automatically”, by synthetic full.I would like to know if there is away to have a weekly full backup, and a synthetic one for replication ?
I would like to ask for opinions /best practice from field experts on how to build a properly configured VMware VSA proxy which is going ot be use primarily using the hotadd transport. I have not seen any information in Commvault books online on the details on how to build.Information I am looking such as:1. How many disks and sizes for each2. Block size for each disk3. disk configuration settings and stateAny information provided will help Please note this is for Commvault v11.24 or later and running Windows Server 2022 etc.
