How I configure Vmware VSA backup via NBD over backup network? normaly I need NIC pairing between client and MediaAgent to be sure the backup trafic is travelling over backup network, but in this case the ESXi server is delivering the data, how I can do here NIC pairing, as Commvault has only the vCenter server configured?Currently we use proxy server VMs with hot-add, but we want to reduce the VM foot print. We use Vmware and Windows MAs.Commvault version is v11.32.42regards Juergen
Hi All,I have a VM that is >2TB and we have observed both flakiness and slow performance completing backups, and in particular, restores.I have in the back of my mind the notion that CV recommends very big VMs be covered with FS agent (or intellisnap) rather than VSA but cannot find the relevant reference. The VSA best practice ref. does not cover this situation. Can anyone help refresh my memory? Thanks
Dear,Today I back up my environment with volume licenses, now I will use vm package licenses. With this I will change my backup mode from file system to virtual Server.QuestionWill my backup volume change? Is there any calculation to size the storage size of my backup in Virtual Server mode?
When executing what format are the client names?
Hi All, We have many clients that are backing up even in powered off state. As per my knowledge, snapshot should be placed in the datastore and creation of snapshot consider the ESXi host rather than VM (please correct me if I'm wrong). To avoid such scenarios, I found that we have prepared and post process scripts which can be made outside of commvault. Can someone help me on below questionsWhere I can find these scripts? How these scripts works?Do I need to place these scripts in every VSA? Thanks in advance!!
Upgraded to Commvault version 11.34.5. We are running intellisnap backups and AppAware for SQL Since the update SQL AppAware backups do not work the default way for this version, App Consistent. The manifest.zip file that is sent to Commvault from vmware doesn’t contain the xml files needed, Writer.xml. Per Commvautl/VMware this failure is happening on the VM client OS side of things. Has any experienced this issue? Thank you
I need the api that gives the deleted VMs list from the vCenter. As per the document:https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/essential/rest_api_get_virtual_machines.html I should get isDeleted in status info as a response but I didn’t see anything like that when I ran the Get VM api:[redacted]response:[redacted]test VM is already deleted. I need an api that can mention that the VM is deleted on vCenter. So I could go ahead and delete it from commvault.
I’m going to guess nobody has contemplated this unless they’ve been with Commvault for eons, but here’s the situation and end-state goal:We have been archiving files on a couple 2 node clusters running on RHEL for years. The cluster consists of multiple virtual clients(each per application group) and the nodes participating in the cluster use the sVCS_SUPPORT reg key to know there’s plugins and such, and to know who owns what. As part of “reducing complexity”, costs, etc., we need or prefer to remove the clustering components. The HW and OS’s are obsolete so migrating the apps and data to new systems but retaining identical names and IP’s. Archiving works well so want to keep stubs as stub if at all possible. The new (destination) servers have new OS’s and no Veritas at all.Rather than rehydrate/recall all the stubbed content, is it possible to simply shutdown old systems, bring up new, and if the new hosts have the same hostname as the old (and obviously the filesystem agent on it), wil
has anyone had any luck setting up a non vmware snap mount host under advanced options in a subclient? - due to license costs of setting up a non-clustered host (to resolve PDL issues) I am looking for a cost effective solution
I purchase new licence. is this possible to see licence in commvault support portal
We have few VM’s with Thick Lun Provisioning but the actual size of the VM is very small.Let’s say Provisioned capacity is 7TB.But the read size of the VM is 1TB.Does commvault consider 7TB or 1TB of License?
Hii’m using commvault to backup my vmware environment.I have a DR site, and i use commvault to replicate, once a day, vms from main site to DR site.Backup and replication are working well.I applied a 1 month retention and i schedule an daily incremental with a weekly full.Just fews VMs are replicated. On these VMs, i noticed that there is no more weekly full backups. The weekly full was replaced, i guess “automatically”, by synthetic full.I would like to know if there is away to have a weekly full backup, and a synthetic one for replication ?
I would like to ask for opinions /best practice from field experts on how to build a properly configured VMware VSA proxy which is going ot be use primarily using the hotadd transport. I have not seen any information in Commvault books online on the details on how to build.Information I am looking such as:1. How many disks and sizes for each2. Block size for each disk3. disk configuration settings and stateAny information provided will help Please note this is for Commvault v11.24 or later and running Windows Server 2022 etc.
I configured the backup of VMs created in the Nutanix hypervisor. Everything works except the backup of the VM acting as agent Virtual Server. Its backup fails with the error "Proxy virtual machine is unable to backup itself".What solution can I find to remedy this?
When restoring an Azure VM from Commvault using snapshot restore, where the disk names are getting changed. We want to prevent this without changing the disk name. Our infrastructure uses Terraform tool which expect resources to adhere to a predefined naming convention.. In the terraform next execution, If the disk name is changed after restore. Terraform automation will remove the restored disk and create a new empty one as per the standard defined. Can you please suggest a solution to prevent disk name changes during the restore process?
Getting below error during the snapshot restoration. What could be the reason and how to fix this issue. Unable to create a new virtual machine [WEAZPRDAWST01] on host [RG-PRD-SAP-EU-WST-001] datastore [stalogsprdsapeu001]. [A disk with sku 'Premium_ZRS' cannot be created in an availability zone. I’m new to the Commvault world and tasked with researching, installing and configuring Commvault in our environment. My aim is to gather as much information as possible prior to installing Commvault. I’m currently taking an intro to Commvault course, but it appears this is a very complex piece of software. My question is: would it be prudent to deploy a VMware VM with the Commvault software pre-Installed by using the Commvault OVA (not HYPERSCALE X)? Does anyone have experience using the appliance to get Commvault up and running in your environment? If so, are there any “gotchas” I should be concerned about? Any downside with updates to the appliance (e.g. new patches) or any other potential issues? Any information is greatly appreciated.
Actually my question is , i have added vmare vCenter in commvault, but the virtual machine is not showing proper way. like not showing left side navigation commcell windows. it is show vCenter tab then expand then virtual server then expand then default then double click and then contend tab and it is showing all virtual machine.don’t want this way.. want showing left side navigation window all virtual machine. How ? any process ?
Folks,Has anyone already faced this issue with certificates when trying to connect Commvault with OCI?The logs below are from the VSP windows client.Steps on the VSP windows client and configuration were based on this link: https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/essential/guided_setup_for_oracle_cloud_infrastructure.htmlNOTE: Obtain the private key, password, and fingerprint for the private key, and copy the private key to the VSA proxy instance: base_folder\certificates\external\ folder for Windows proxies, or base_folder/certificates/external/ folder for Linux proxies.PEM key were generated on MAC following this link: https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/API/Concepts/apisigningkey.htm#apisigningkey_topic_How_to_Generate_an_API_Signing_Key_Mac_Linux I can see the Commvault server is reaching the VSP windows client (logs below), however it’s failing to import the certificate. 3364 16d4 03/05 23:32:06 ### CvException::init(): func_name=CvcRSA::setPriKeyPEM, file_name=cvc_rsa.c
Hi I am trying to backup a Kubernetes PVC volume backup, but how do I get a list up so I can pick the correct PVC backup?I am not able to find any Commvault documentation on this “Value” that is needed. Thanks in advance!
Hello Team,We have VMware in place and I am planning for replication for some of the critical VMsWhat is best option we have it in commvault to achieve this.
Description: Unable to create a virtual machine snapshot of [R-FR]. [Snapshot 3d5065ff-1f0e-486f-a846-925a208207f4 could not be found.] Please check the virtual machine snapshot tree. Source: t-commv, Process: JobManager
Hi,when I want to restore a VM with vTPM module, the certificate changes when I switch on the VM and I have to enter a recovery keywhat is the correct way to restore a VM with TPM module correctly? Are there any settings missing here or is there something that needs to be taken into account on the VMware side?
Is there any down time associated with performing a a ‘live recovery’ for a VM(s)?i.e.- complete a ‘live recovery’ job for VM1. During or afterwards, any negative affects or downtime on VM1?
Hello Team,We are going to implement new Commvault backup solution.Currently the backup solution running VM's image backup and application like SQL, Oracle and Exchange is configured agent based.SQL DB - Always-On & Failover cluster (both configuration is available). Going to new Commvault solution will use below mentioned configuration. Will take entire Image backup. Will take image with application-aware backup also. For SQL Always-on what is the best practice will follow the VM's with application-aware (each SQL AG group will create job and include VM's in part of AG). What is the backup configuration of SQL using Windows failover VM's (is it supported application aware backup).
