Hi, Just want to ask if there are specific use cases or features that Hyperscale X can provide without Commvault Backup and Recovery or Disaster Recovery software? Or would I need CV backup and recovery to enjoy the features of the Hyperscale X reference architecture (i.e. would I have backup and recovery capabilities using the hyperscale X reference architecture on my servers alone without the CV Backup and Recovery license) 

On the same system, is it possible to deploy both a virtual agent and a file system agent?We want to backup only the VM level status of the server, but their file system will be backed up separately due to the fact that the server system files are too large (12TB in size) and it takes too long to restore if the server is backed up with only the virtual server agent. 

Hi there,We have a virtual machine with SQL Server being backed up with backup type ‘File System and Application Consistent (Needs VMWare Tools installed)’. This backup is succeeding. If we change to using Application Aware processing, will a new full backup be required - and will this backup be deduplicated as normal? Or will this require a net new backup that is not deduplicated against the existing historical?Thanks for your help.  

This is more of a “hmmm”…Background:Currently we have a few “VMware backups” that are set up via a windows clients (installed on a VMs) that have the "Virtual Server" package installed.  There seems to be another way which is to literally just install a “VMware vCenter" client (I just installed one today). Both seem “similar” and I’m not sure why we would have set it up the other way in “the past”.Questions:Is the “windows client (installed on a VM) that has the "Virtual Server" package installed.” just an older way to handle this (which is why we likely have this configuration)?Which is the preferred way to handle VMWare backups?  If both are “valid” are there benefits or reasons to choose one over the other? Hello Community  I am currently troubleshooting an issue with high IO during SQL backups. Upon investigation, I found the IO wait type to be BACKUPIO. Further analysis of the Commvault performance log revealed that writing to the media is slow, which is consistent with the issue we found using a PowerShell script to determine I/O wait type (BACKUPIO).Currently, our storages live in Azure, with three copies (primary, 2nd, and 3rd). The primary and 2nd copies have deduplication enabled, with a block level ddb factor of 512 of each. To achieve a better balance between write performance and recoverability, Perf log recommends adjusting the block size from the data path properties to 128KB or 256KB.My question is whether I need to change the block level ddb factor to 128KB on both the source and destination cloud lib, and if so, what is the proper procedure to adjust the value? Hello everyone, Is it possible to get Full Schedules via API call? i am able to get the schedules and sub tasks inside the schedule but i could not find a way to differentiate schedules from Full, vs Incremental vs Full Synthetic?  Granted Full Synthetic has a display name so it lets you differentiate from Full and incremental but Full backup and incremental does not have any name in schedules.is there any other property that i can key off?       Thank you!    

Do we have any performance tuning guides for HSX? The customer has a 11 node\24 disk per node cluster and wants to know if they can benchmark performance and get kind of a best practices around tuning and how to get the most out of the HSX. thanks much

Hello,I would like to backup our GitHub Account where we have a huge amount of repositories.And few are added very frequently.But I’m not able to configure once as content “all repositories” in order to have also the new ones added without going back to the configuration.Someone was able to do it ?Today I’m forced to add the new ones regularly manually (add content).Thank you,Regards,Michael.   

Hi Team, I’m frequently seeing below error for many DDB Backups and getting failed.Error Code: [6:43]Backup failed: unable to open or read a file. Configured to fail on any error. Please check the following: 1. The account that the File System agent uses has sufficient privileges to back up files. 2. The data being backed up can be accessed and is not on a path that is unmounted or is inaccessible. 3. A third-party product is not locking the files. 4. There is no corruption of the data on the disk. 5. If some failures are expected, please change the current setting so that the backups can complete. Please let me know how to resolve this error. Regards,Harshavardhan.

I am a bit unclear with Index version 2 since version 11.  If we have a new Mediaagent with the latest Commvault agent installed; as I understand it will utilize Index version 2; what happens with the clients which do not support this version.  Also, we have a selective policy wherein the server last monthly full is taped out; what about the Index version 2 database backups; As I understand only action logs are backed up as a part of the backup process; what happens to the Index database; so if we were to restore an historical six month old backup with Index version 1; everything will be restored from the backups as it is backed up as a part of the backup job; however what happens if it is Index version 2I do notice that Index database is backed up as a part of “Big-Apps” against the storage policy; however; I cant see the historical jobs going to tape

We have a robust rman setup currently and we’d like to continue using that to backup to Commvault.  We have this working, however we have one huge issue.  Apparently we can only submit a single job at a time and the others simply wait.  We have large machines with over 75 databases on them and a single stream isn’t feasible.Is there a way we can backup multiple databases at once using rman from the unix box?Thanks!

Just need to confirm something about the Commvault GxClusPlugin and any services like that while configuring any fail over sql cluster .I believe that these services should be down not active on the passive node.Also need to know if there is any failure in Commvault sw, the cluster movement from primary  to secondary will fail ??

Hello,  In our environment we provide storage target for RMAN backups but leave actual backup administration in the hands of Oracle admins. Clients are setup in CommVault with a storage policy with a retention of 30 days/1cycle and no schedule. Scheduling is handled by the DBA’s.On certain databases we notice that jobs age out earlier than 30 days and DBA’s get notified in RMAN that the backups fail on the “DELETE OBSOLETE” step. We’ve previously contacted support about this and have the following enabled in CommVault: Disable RMAN External Pruning set at commserve/media management level Disable RMAN crosscheckAgain, this seems to only effect particular databases, not every database on a host has this issue. I’m not sure what else we could possibly look into? 

In our environment we are using Disk library for all our backups and all the backups are running in a single session. To improve backup timings of one of the Oracle node, we are planning to increase the sessions in commvault. My question is, other than changing the settings in subclient level, do we have to increase the channels in RMAN script to make it work? Thanks.hutamit

Hi Team,The DDB partition Q&I time is very high post changed the DDB partition location. I have moved the DDB partition recently from one drive to another due to space was full.As per storage team, we are using Lun assigned NLSAS_SSD drives on our MA. Now all the backups are running very slow. I want to reduce the Q&I time or else want to run the DDB on single (T:\ DDB) partition. because the backups are running fine using that DDB(when i was moved the DDB that time it was used another partition) Please suggest on this.I have raised a case to vendor, they are suggesting to run the ConvertDDBToV5 workflow job and waiting for the steps and DT. 

Hello, In the meantime, I found the following timestamp and also warning about the snapshot creation for the mentioned VMs. However, there is no reason mentioned in the logs for why the snapshot creation is disabled.Error Code: [91:482]Description: Snapshot creation is disabled on (VM Name). Please help to find the solution for this error.

This option is available only for the storage policy configured with multiple partitioned DDB.When this option selected and if you have a partially available DDB that is one of the partition is offline The backup or Auxiliary copy jobs can continue with remaining available partition of the DDB. If option checked, the CommVault warn that this option may increase space consumption on disk. If I understand the concepts correctly each partition stores a unique collection of hashes and pointers. With this option checked, space consumption on disk can increase, because Commvault would need to deduplicate some of the blocks again.  If this is correct,is the data verification job the kind of task that could identify if there are duplicate data blocks stored on disk? If the answer is yes, then it would be strongly recommended to run a data verification job after this option is checked. Especially with the DDB dat

Is there a way to print the tapes that are in a VaultTracker Container? I do not see any way or workaround method to do this.

However these data blocks may already exist in storage with signature contained in the sealed DDBs residing in the MediaAgent or Data Center. The DDB Priming feature looks for signatures in the previously sealed DDBs and uses them to baseline the new DDB. Hello,During a DDB reconstruction process, how does it reconstruct the missing data?  In our case, it first performed a restore of the last backup which was from sometime early morning.  Does it then access the library storage directly to reconstruct the missing data or does it access the Commserve?  I’m asking because I’ve been told conflicting information from different Commvault technicians.  I just want to make sure that I understand this process clearly.  Thank you. Bill

We will perform restore tests, can we return any DB under MySQL Instance that we want to learn?
