Hi,I am in the process of configuring NetApp NAS backups using CIFS with SnapDiff, and I cannot find a clear documentation on how to configure that. What is unclear for me, is:SnapDiff is just used for the Scan phase, right? So once we are in the Backup phase, we are just doing a CIFS--based backup?In which steps should we configure this? Create the NAS client first? Or configure the Array first? And at which point (and where in Command Center) should we detect/configure the SVM's? What permissions within NetApp does the user account need which is used for the SnapDiff feature? After Configuring the Array and the CIFS subclient, will Commvault automatically use SnapDiff? Or should we enable that somewhere? How does Commvault map the share to the NetApp Array and volume that needs to be used for SnapDiff? For instance: - The NetApp Array is configurated in Commvault as: netapp01-mgmt.company.lan - Clients connect to \\netapp01-svm1-cifs.company.lan\share01 - We run the backup as: \\neta

Just patched from v11SP14 to v11SP16HPK141 and I want to get that patch (141) into my software cache so I can push it out to clients.  I go through the traditional steps for a system with no internet connectivity: Downloaded Maintenance Release from CommVault StoreAdd/Remove HardwareCopy SoftwareCopy Software From Location : Browse and select directory from extracted v11SP16_Available_21Jan_WinX64 file fails with :Error Code: [68:481]Description: No packages or updates were found in folder [].Source: {comserver name}, Process: DownloadSoftware this directory is the exact directory that I extracted and then used to patch to 141 on my server so I know the files are valid. I have noticed that there are no payload related xml files like in previous patches.  Any help appreciated. 

Hello,After the testing with test failover from CommServe A to another Commserve B, I have started the production failover. The production failover is successful completed.But, the replication job don't work from CommServe B (new) to CommServe A (old).Because the SQL-version of CommServe A is lower than CommServe B.CommServe A have 12.00.5223 (SQL 2014)CommServe B have 13.00.5888 (SQL 2016)How can I fix this problem?I think that this article will help me, but it is not about the passive Commserve. https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11_sp20/article?p=115437.htm Do you have any advice for me?

Hi, Setting up a backup for a Solaris Cluster. Got a question if we can have the Job Results folder on an NFS mounted volume on the Cluster Group? I have had the Job Results Folder on net-shared volumes before but never in a cluster group setup. Is it supported? /Patrik

I am trying to determine the correct REST API “get” to list all VM clients (guests) being protected. Maybe I am missing it or it’s more difficult than I think. I can list all VM hosts, VSAs, datastores, etc, but I just need a list of VMs being backed up. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Thanks!

Hi all.I am following best practice for SQL server VM backups by snapping the OS and SQL program file drives only, filtering out the drives that hold the databases.So if we lose the VM, we restore the VM from snap backup, add drives and then use the SQL agent to restore the databases.The issue we have is that to do the restore requires folders to be manually created on the newly added drives, and on some of our SQL servers with multi instances there can be a great many of these.There doesn’t seem to be an option for the SQL restore to create the folders it needs so I had the idea of using the file agent to backup the drives, but filtering out all files, so it effectively just backs up the folders.We could then use the file agent to restore the folder structure and the sql agent to put the databases in the folders.I can’t quite work out though, how to filter out all files, but keep the folders.Can anyone help?Thanks.

Dear All,I have around 40 AIX clients with 7.2 OS which is in backup rotation. I would like to enable the 1 touch recovery option from advanced settings. Although for AIX, I should deploy a dedicated 1 touch server and a 1 touch server directory in the same server to perform 1 touch backup and recovery of all AIX clients.However I am now confused with system requirements for 1 touch server and also if I am planning to use the same 1 touch server for all the 40 clients what should be system requirements and also the directory size?Can anyone help me on this?RegardsAnanth

Got a storage policy with a active selective Copy that is supposed to copy the data written to a HDD library and copy it to a tape. It missed its aux backup for whatever reason. When trying to manually run an aux copy from the storage policy it tells me there is no Data that needs to be copied when clearly there is no job records of the aux performing backups. How do i force an aux copy without this error popping up .

Hello,I use the REST API to read via Python the protection report (XML).Now the output of this report describes first the columns and in the next session the records.  I use normally xml.etree.ElementTree, to read xml contend, but for this looks not useful, what is the easiest way to get this formatted output in dict or in a list. sorry i am new in python scripting.regards Jürgen

I would like to covers about problem with Commvault.The problem concerns the configuration of the Virtual Lab functionality.When attempting to configure a policy, Commvault will not be able to "see" CV_VLAB_GATEWAY or any network configured in the VMware environment. Such a machine is in the client's Vmware environment.I will be very appreciate for help 

Hi all,in the Job Controller there is a waiting backup job due to the following error message:"Drive in which Media is mounted is not ready to use. Advice: Please retry your operation later. If the drive has a stuck volume, reset the drive to recover the media."As proposed, I tried to "reset drive", but it didnt help. The tape seems to be stuck in the drive.Do you have any suggestions what to try next to work it out?

Hello, I am enabling encryption for my backup data per new requirement by enabling it through the storage policy copy encryption setting.  After subsequent backup jobs have completed I have verified encryption to the backup data is set from the storage policy copy report.  I do not see an indication that the DDB backups are encrypted.    Do they need to be encrypted?  This is a requirement by our auditors and they will see this in the report like I did and might ask me why the DDB backups are excluded.Thanks.

Hi, Is there a way to redirect Temp Tablespace during Oracle Out-of-place restore using Command Center?This is possible using Java console but I cannot find this in Command Center.

I would need assistance to estimate the storage size for backup, as we have nearly 140 + VM’s new servers which need to be backup daily, weekly Full and monthly tape, In order procure the license from commvault i would need to provide the following details but i’m unable to get all the details as i’ve confused between application size, Total VM size, Backup size, when i download the VM’s from vCenter igot all the clients list including VM’s size but when i calculate the total Storage based storage provision space, the toal size is showing nearly 200TB but when i login to each VM and look up for used space hardly 20TB to 30 TB and few VM’s are growing daily nearly 20 GB so in my case which size i should consider and how do i calculate the total capacity and make solution for this?? Total capacity of data to be protected Total capacity of physical data Total capacity of virtual machines Total VM’s – 220? Total Physical – 12? Disk retention on both sites 

Hopefully this is an easy one?When I “Show Virtual Machines” on the Client computer tab in user preferences I can see every VM that has ever existed in my environment (VMware). Is there an easier way to clean this up other than going through and right click deleting every client that I am sure will never be needed again? I realise why this would be the case as you may well need to restore a long gone VM but it’s such a mess!Thanks very much

I am trying to setup backup for TrueNAS device which hosts both CIFS and NFS share.  Looking at the NAS backups; it appears NDMP is not supported.  I have a Windows proxy that can talk to the NAS device and can be used as a point to protect CIFS share; as I understand for NFS I would need to setup a linux VM.  I noticed TrueNAS also has snapshot support; it is possible to leverage that? 

Hello im facing an issue restoring an oracle database from RAC to another new server. case : we had a retired oracle RAC with a log retention backup in place.now the customer after 10 Months need  some data from the oracle db, so we implemented a new node to restore the db on it configuration on the source rac was as below  when i try to  perform out of place restore with control file option selected and no catalog option i get this error “ RMAN-06172: no AUTOBACKUP found or specified handle is not a valid copy or piece”i have tried more than 3 different point of times with the same issue.i have configured the pathes in the redirect option i have configured the CF&SPfile option to be from autobackup once and from peice once and i got the same issue.  RMAN below Rman Script:[run {allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape'PARMS="SBT_LIBRARY=/opt/commvault/Base64/libobk.a(shr.o), BLKSIZE=1048576 ENV=(CV_mmsApiVsn=2,ThreadCommandLine= -cn pendba1 -cs site_a_commserv.,CV_channelPar=ch1)"TRACE

Hey all - I have a content indexing question - if we remove a storage policy from content indexing , what happens to those indexes?  Do they stay?  How do we clean them up?  Example - 2 storage policies and only 1 is indexed.  We removed the check box from that one and added the other storage policy  and ran a index job.  Does the previous indexing stay put?  Is there a way to clean up the indexes from the previous storage policy? 

My network does not have the ability to contact the internet to draw the needed install files using the installer on the download page.  I need to find an offline package with everything in it that I can take into my environment.  Anyone have a link?  Thanks,Brett

We have an offsite facility we send our aux copies to for DR purposes. PB’s of data for CommVault to go through .  We do not have a firewall, and port 8400 can reach the offsite ok.  Some of us in house think using the network topology to create a persistent connection and then open 8 routes will speed up the process over letting Commvault handle the traffic automatically. Does anyone have any insight into which process is better to use for us? or more technical how the network routes work or a recommended setup?
