Hello, guys. So we are having this issue on this thing. We are currently backing up some files from the physical disk(RDM) attached to the VMs.Based on the report for today,...The capacity license has been exhausted ,(those VMs were onboarded as individua clients), the VMs with virtual disks were all successful, but the customer is saying the file system backup of those RDM disk should consume the VM license and not capacity. Is there how to do a workaround on this. They still have about 60 VMs licenses that has not been consumed. Will really be glad if I get someone with experience on this to help clarify or suggest the best way to go
Hello to all!In a fresh Commvault installation for o365 backup, I’m trying to find the way to manual exclude some user licenses from SharePoint online! From the first time when configured the SharePoint online, automatically assign all the o365 users to SharePoint Online license (from Application User Licenses tab). From Command Center Im available to manual exclude users from Exchange and also OneDrive, but I cant find a way to exclude users from SharePoint online. In order to save some user licenses :)Any idea ?
Hello Commvault Community! I would like to ask you if there is any option to do a "tape mirror". I mean 1:1 copying the data from one tape to another, but keeping the data on both tapes. I am aware that there is a "Tape to tape copy" option, but if I understand correctly it deletes the data from the source tape and copies it to the new one available in Spare Media. The reason why the customer wants two copies of the data on two different copies is the security rules of their company, where they must have one tape in the safe and the other in the active Tape Library. I suggested to make another copy in Storage Policy backup to tape with the source copy from disk, but then we can't be sure that the tapes will be 1:1. Is there any chance we can make a tape mirror? Move Contents of Media from One Tape to Anotherhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/10538_move_contents_of_media_from_one_tape_to_another.html Thanks&Regards,Kamil
Hello Commvault Community, I hope you are doing well. I come to you with a question about granular data verification for virtual machine backup jobs. The customer has a problem with the data saved on the tapes, the matter is quite heavily consulted in the Commvault support. (Incident 211108-483) Due to the current situation, the client will need to backup the entire environment. Therefore, when having problems writing data to tapes, I need to be sure which jobs may have problems with restoring task (mostly virtual machines). When a job fails with a chunk it should be a reference to JobID. I am aware of this that Commvault has a VM-Centric mechanism that divides jobs into Parent Jobs and Child Jobs, but the client unfortunately has a VMware Pseudoclient in the indexing version V1, not V2. In V1, the VM-Centric mechanism is not working. Both in the history of VSA jobs and directly in the history of the virtual machine you can see the same JobID, they are not distinguished as in the V2
Hello,Could someone please provide the proper steps to decommission the Windows media agents and asssociated DDB, and Disk Libraries? We have migrated to hyperscale and the legacy environment needs to shutdown. It is just running DDB backups and Index backups.
I would like to take some of our long term tapes and copy them to our cloud instance, but when I right click on the tape and select recopy - I get “Recopy operation for media of a primary copy is not allowed”, when I try tape to tape I only see the on-prem libraries so I cannot trick it into going to our cloud instance. How would I go about doing something like this. I would like to get away from being dependent on having a specific library around for older tapes that we are required to keep long-term. Especially when those tape libraries go end of life and I still have tapes that can only be read in them.
Hello Commvault Community, I want to ask you and ask for help on overwriting the Oracle database. A daily schedule is created to overwrite the Oracle databases from "abc.PROD." to "abc.TEST". The process is correct, but after the operation is completed, the overwritten database often remains in the "STARTED" instead of "OPEN" mode. We can raise it to the "OPEN" state and the situation is ok. Repeating the overwrite operation is also always correct and the database is available. Are we able to somehow change the configuration so that the database is always in the OPEN state, and not STARTED, after the overwriting task is completed? Tasks end with the status "Completed with errors". Error Code: [19: 1336] Description: Oracle Restore [Failed to execute the create controlfile script. Please run this script [shutdown immediate; startup nomount; @ '/ opt / commvault / Base / Temp // CreateControlFileScript_1645579842.sql'; exit; ] manually again from sqlplus, open the database with resetlogs
Hi all,Is Commvault aware of the ‘new’ PHP vulnerability?Received this from a customer: Vulnerabilities detailsVulnerability Name CVE-2021-21708Severity CriticalCVSS 9.8Exposed devices 4Affected products Php https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2021-21708 CVE-2021-21708 DetailCurrent DescriptionIn PHP versions 7.4.x below 7.4.28, 8.0.x below 8.0.16, and 8.1.x below 8.1.3, when using filter functions with FILTER_VALIDATE_FLOAT filter and min/max limits, if the filter fails, there is a possibility to trigger use of allocated memory after free, which can result it crashes, and potentially in overwrite of other memory chunks and RCE. This issue affects: code that uses FILTER_VALIDATE_FLOAT with min/max limits.
I have an Availability Group backup in which I’m attempting to change the number of streams for data backup. Under its Subclient Properities, Storage Device, Data Storage Policy, I would like to change the Number of streams for data backup. But when I press OK, I receive a popup message showing: Failed to set activity control. Time selected should be greater than current time. Below is a screenshot. The other AG Subclient groups don’t have this problem when I make a change. What could cause this problem and how can I resolve it? Edit: I found out that I will receive this message when I make any changes of any kind on this subclient. Simply looking at its properites and pressing OK without changing any values also shows this problem.
Hi AllOver the years we have been creating multiple partitions and using each partition as a mount path in the disk library. This method gives the exact size of the disk libraryHowever , if you create mount paths using different folders within the same partition then Commvault disk library size is multiplied by the number of folders we createFor e.g. , if the E: partition is 10 TB and we create 5 mount paths folders as Folder1 2 3 4 and 5 , we expect the total size to be seen as 10 TB . But commvault calculates it as 5 * 10 and shows the disk library with a wrong size of 50 TBAny ideas on how to fix this ?RegardsJithendra Krishnakumar

Hello Everyone,i need help to get clarification about o365 retention and where should be controlled. In Commandcenter, i have o365 Backup Plan as Server Plan Type which associated w/ storage Policy, and o365 Plan as office 365 Plan Type which also has retention option.Ideally our required retentions as follows:Daily incremental to keep for 60 days Monthly Full w/ 12 months retentionhowever, it is said that o365 is forever incremental, Monthly full may not be available.Questions:which retention should it be managed, storage policy or o365 Plan? if Monthly full is not available, how would you recommend configuring retentions as alternative? Also, does retention policies under Commcell-->Policies-->Configuration policies→ Exchange Policies applicable to o365 exchangeonline backup? or it is the same controls in o365 Plan retention settings?thank you for your feedback.
Good day,I have a Windows Server running a domain controller.- Virtual Server backup goes through.- Active Directory backup goes through- Windows File system does a backup up to 99% and fail with ArchiveIndex initialization
Hi Can I backup and restore VSS Writer like this /Matts
Hi, Everyone…. I am currently in my environment and we are backing up OVM virtual machines. While backing up the VMs, commvault created a snapshot and mounted it on the production OVM Manager. It truncates it after the backup is completed. Is it possible for the snapshots not to mount on the OVM manager at all? It actually affected production last time night. Please, help out
Activate users, Assemble!!I noticed that I typically add 1 or 2 systems to projects in activate at a time. IS there a way to batch add or use grouping to complete a mass entry?
So we have two sites… one media agent at each site. Each site has a Primary backup to that sites’ MA with a secondary going to the other site. It’s been this way for years. In THEORY, with each site writing to itself and copying to the other, using dedupe/compression… one might think both sides would look roughly the same - as it’s the same “stuff”. However, one site is ~290TB while the other is 440TB and growing. I’ve talked to support to find out if there was a way to reconcile this difference and, while they were extremely helpful, it seems that life’s answer is “with dedupe and compression, you’re not guaranteed the same size when these things are involved. You’re just going to have to purchase more space at the larger site”. Don’t get me wrong - we’re backing up more than a petabyte of data on each site, but it seems like one’s just far less efficient than the other. Has anyone else faced this situation, and how did you deal with it?
Full job runs, I want to start transaction log job schedule or job to run only if and when job finishes. Job can run between 8 and 24 hrs.

Hello All,I would like to know how to make sure that data on S3\ any other storage on cloud and media agents on cloud are safe from ransomware attacks.I have plan of using WORM storage mode but I am not aware what is the pre requirements.https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/9251_configuring_worm_storage_mode_on_cloud_storage.htmlBut I would like to know what all consideration to be made before I execute the above workflow. Also I would like to know once the workflow is executed on any existing storage pool, is that mean the data which is already available on the storage pool is immutable or any new data written to it is immutable?Any suggestions?RegardsAnanth
Hello, One of the Media Agents keeps running out of space and I am trying to determine why this is happening and what else stored on this particular drive can be deleted. I believe that this is caused by new content being written to our DR_Backup folder as it is over 400GB (drive is only 500GB). I would like to know what they files are for and to what extent they can be reduced / deleted. Additionally there is another folder on the same drive that I believe can be deleted but I wanted to double-check. The folder “CV_Install” looks like it contains the installer/setup from when our backup server was implemented (before my time) but pressing delete on folders without being sure is a good way to have a bad day. This might be related to another issue I need to chase up where Disaster jobs are failing but I can’t determine why. I inherited responsibility of our Commvault system late late year without any formal training so please excuse any noob questions. Thanks
In the CommVault client application, I can view the “Media in Library” throughStorage Resources/Libraries\QUANTUM Scalar i3-i6 3/Media By Location/Media In LibraryThis window shows all the tapes in the library whether they are in tape drives or in regular slots. I’ve looked for a window like this in Command Center, but I’ve only been able to view either the tapes outside the drives, or the tapes inside the drives -- but not both at the same time. Is there a place where I can view all of them at once? Or perhaps a view that I can custom-configure to show this information? Along with this, the “Slot View” in Command Center shows all the tapes, but on multiple pages. This makes finding several tapes across the all the slots very slow because one must tap between the different pages of tapes. Is there a way to expand the list length per page? Or disable page-separation completely? Solutions and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Hi everyone,I'm using the cvpysdk package in the last version 11.26 and I'm trying to backup and restore cloud apps instance. The problem is that when I try to get the instance from the agent I get a KeyError exception with the key accessKeyId.I'm using the command:instance = agent.instances.get("instance name").(I was able to get the agent from type cloud apps and the instance name ia correct). Does anyone succeeded in getting the instance from cvpysdk? Thanks.
Hi,I’m currently trying Metallic and I would like to be able to let our MSP to do full managed services for us. That said, we would like to be able to insure the MSP admin are unable to access the data. I saw the option “Prevent admin access to company data” but we were more envisioning the use of an encryption key. In the company settings, there is that section called “Allow owners to enable data encryption” which may be aligned with what we would like but I can’t find any information on it. I activated it but I don’t see any change anywhere in the other section like plan or servers so I have no clue what it does and how to use it.I also saw in the security/key management servers that we can configure a KMS or a passphrase which, once set, is not visible anymore. I tried to activate the passphrase which seems to work but I don’t think that would deny the MSP admin to access our data. I think it kind of just replace the automatically generated encryption key by the passphrase I’ve put.
