Hi Everyone, I need to provide figures on the rate of change for our backup data, as we are looking to send data to another location with two weeks retention. I have a mature, deduplicated environment so the figures I am seeing on reports and the like, are not too much use at the moment. I need to really factor in two things:-1 - Expected size of the baseline (I will be created a new copy, targeting the new location)2 - The rate of change of future backups. So I have two main questions:- 1 - How do I calculate my expected dedupe and compression savings for my first Auxcopy.I realize this will effectively be copying over an equivalent full backup, since it will be seeding the new library.I am thinking along the lines of assuming a 50% saving (compression and some dedupe combined) but I am wondering if there a better or more accurate way of doing this? Hi Mike, Yes i am having the same problem. I tried this method but got no results. I restarted Commvault services. I made a cache commit. However, the result did not change. I will reboot CS tomorrow :) If not resolved I will open a new issue.

Over the past weekend, we had a VM FULL backup job failed because of failure with vCentre authentication. After changing to a new username and restarting the VMware vSphere Web Client service, the job ran successfully, as well as all the incremental VM backup jobs since. However, what’s annoying me is that, with the same (new) username and password, in the Virtual Server Instance Properties, I still got “Connection refused” message  So, I don’t quiet understand how come the backup job was fixed whereas the vCentre authentication is still not working ? Thanks, Kelvin

But I love the quick feedback I get on this platform! :-)I have a customer running DDBv4 who wants to leverage DDBv5 with Horizontal Scaling.I know that we have the ConvertDDBToV5 workflow, or alternativelywe could convert the DDB manually.But would that also enable Horizontal Scaling automatically? Or is there some separate procedure required for getting horizontal scaling?Thanks in advance for your reply!

Is there a way we can perform silent install (without any human intervention) for the Maintenance release) as we already have our main package already installed and we need it for few of the Linux servers due to bug in password encryption in cassandra. 

Hey all,before raising a ticket to support I want to know if I miss something.I’ve created a new backup plan (call it ‘B’) and assigned it to users group based on AD group.the AD group contains about 500 users, some new and some already exist in CV.For the new users plan ‘B’ is assigned successfully during activation.The issue is with existing user that already assigned to plan ‘A’.I have a workflow to run on all users in a group and assign the respective plan to their laptops, but the issue is that the users are not present in the users group although that they do exist in the AD group. What do I miss? ThanksYirmi

Since we run 11.22 , we have the following in the reports.The report selection boxes are unreadable (white on light gray)...to be honest...I’m not young, but also not that old, so I think that’s a problem with Commvault admin center :)  

Hello, I would to set continuous incremental backups every 30 minutes from last job’s end time and synth fulls during the weekend, on laptops. I’ve created a schedule policy with this settings. My problem is that many users, friday evening, shut their laptops, hanging in most of cases an incremental backup, then when synth full is triggered, it fails because their is already a job (that’s what i could trace). The problem is that i approximatively never have successfull synth fulls. So, is there a problem wanting to set a backup sequence this way? Thanks in advance for tips on it. Regards.

Hello,We have an Isilon cluster for primary storage for CIFS and NFS clients. We back it up to tape and disk libraries using 3-way ndmp. Incremental backups can be very large from time to time, so large that it seems like it might be backing up files that have not really changed. For example the current backup has transfered 1.7 million files. It seems unlikely that 1.7 million files have changed in the last 24 hours since the previous incremental (daily).So the questions I have are -How are files selected for incremental backup and is there a way to modify/control it? Is there a way to get a report on what files were backed up in a given job and what changed in the file that caused it to be backed up?Thanks,Ron

Morning,I am looking to ensure that that for extended retention the backup from the last day of the month is retained as per the extended retention rules. In the Incremental/Synthetic Full configuration created as part of the plan configuration is this possible? If so how can i configure to ensure that a synthetic full is ran on the last day of the month and then retained as per the extended retention rules?Thanks in advance.

Sorry another post about permissions. Have users with Permissions of “View” and “Report Management” at the Comcell level however not all reports (default Commvault ones) are available to see.For example the Health Report. Hi,A user that was once part of the master role group to assist with configuration of the platform has been moved to a different group that has fewer permissions however it looks like any configuration done by that user on an entity they retain more rights than that of the role they currently have on the entity? (Possibly some sort of creator role meaning you have full permissions?)how is best to ensure only permissions assigned to a role that is configured on the required entities is used going forward?thanks

We are a service provider with a lot of VM backups on a lot of different customers. We let the customers on they own decide what WM's to backup and not with the tagging option. For example, if a customer tag the VM with "NoBackup", that VM will automatically be excluded from VM backup. And if they later remove the tag from the VM, it will automatically be included in backup. The problem is that even if the VM is excluded from backup it will still be included in SLA as missed backup. We got a tip that we can create a server group in command center with automatic rule that includes all VM's with "NoBackup" tag and then disable that server group and that way exclude that from SLA. The problem with that is that the whole client is disabled and excluded. Inclusive agent backups. This means that if a customer disables the VM backup and still need to backup an application via agent backup, above method isn?t applicable. Recently I tried to do a 1-touch restore from a windows client. It was to a physical server. It was a fairly new Dell PowerEdge R740. It had 16 GB of RAM.During the boot up i get this error message:There isn’t enough memory available to create a ramdisk device.Error code: 0xc0000017This only happens to the 1-touch iso’s with dell drivers. I tried it with other R740 servers and go the same result. I have ticket open with commvault but havent heard anything for a while.

Hi All,i have created some new GDSP and i notice that DDB are separate in 3 ID by type of backup (Files, Databases and VM)i have created this commserve (CS2) in FR20.11.22, (currently the commserve is in FR20.11.55).i have another commserve CS1 in the same version 11.20.55 but created in SP16. on this CS1 when i create a new GDSP there is only one ID for the DDB.Why i can’t create a DDB like in the CS2 ?How can i have the same type of DDB on all my Commserve ? Do they need to run a converison script ? or a patch ?Kind regards,Christophe
