Hello,We’re going to deploy the commvault cassandra agent on a cluster (first time for both us and the client, as of right now they’re using medusa to manage cassandra backups) and the cassandra cluster will be in a different security zone to the commvault backend. As such, we need to make internal requests to open the necessary ports between zones. My question concerns the Staged type of restore, and ports 7000,9042/7001,9142 specifically. From what i gather from the commvault docs, the way a Staged restore works is, the tables are pulled from storage (in our case cloud storage, either S3 or DataDomain), temporarily copied to a directory on a Staging Location (where SSTableLoader runs for this type of restore) and then streamed into the Cassandra nodes. I’d like to know the following:The way i understand it, the host of the Staging Location needs to be the Media Agent. Please confirm if this is true and if not, what would be the alternatives for hosting this Staging Location. The stagin
Hi all, what’s the difference between File System and Application Consistent using VMware Tools and Application Aware Backup in the context of MS SQL and Oracle inside VMware VM? When do we use one vs the other? If I understand correctly, Application Aware backup will push application agent/plug-in, but not for File System and Application Consistent using VMware Tools. What are the other differences?Thank you.Regards,Aris
If netapp is managing snap mirror directly, can commvault be configured to mount and create backup copies from mirror copy created by netapp? Or snap mirror process needs to be managed by commvault and only then a backup copy can be created from mirror copy?
Hi Team, Even though I disabled the following option on CommServe, the agent installation screen still asks for a username/password or an authentication code. Shouldn't it be prompted? How can I disable it? Best Regards

We have a Dell Isoilon storage cluster hosting smb shares which are configured as libraries in Commvault The SQL backup to the libraries seem okay again we are using DDB and the stats say write load 40% DDB lookup 15% and network load 40% for backups; however the throughput is 660GB which is irrelevant although unique data of 34 GB took over an hour also there are 4 objects during the backup so I suspect it had used multiple streams during backup however when doing the restore of a single database; it took over 31 hours and looking at the logs the culprit is slow reads; can I increase streams during restore when restoring just 1 DB ; also given the issue is stemming at reading and everything looks fine at Dell Isolion side (cpu memory etc); I had paused all the other jobs what shall I do next may be a read test? After an unexpected upgrade to v11.40 from v11.32 all backups are now very slow. Low throughput and observed 99% DDB lookup. Backups aren’t completing. One Auxiliary copy has a huge 22TB of data that needs to be copied to tape. All these issue appeared after the upgrade
Hallo, I trying to make icinga2 .ps1 script to check the commvault backup status of a client. If i want to install CLI on non commserver which package from repostory do i need to install?
I want to restore database to point in time in the past.I see in comm console there are available old backups. I am giving the following command and it errors. There is a weekly full backup and daily incremental backups and archivelog backups. There is full successful backup on 08-23-2025. I am issuing the following command.run {allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape' PARMS="SBT_LIBRARY=/opt/commvault/Base/libobk.so,BLKSIZE=262144,ENV=(CvOraSbtParams=/home/oracle/restore.txt)";SET UNTIL TIME "to_date('2025-08-28:01:00:00','YYYY-MM-DD:hh24:mi:ss')";restore controlfile from autobackup;}arting restore at 18-SEP-25channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250828channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250827channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250826channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250825channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250824channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250823channel ch1: looking for AUTOBACKUP on day: 20250822channel ch1: no AUTOB
We are currently using Commvault v10, and we have data stored on tape that we need to restore directly to a Synology NAS Unit system, which is mapped to the media server. This is necessary because there isn't enough space on the media server itself. However, when I select the media agent for the restore destination, the network locations are not showing up. Additionally, since it's a NAS unit, we are unable to install the Commvault agent on it.
Hi all,Our Commvault M365 backup INDEX, (with content indexing (v2) enabled), is driving the INDEX Server’s single disk drive close to 10 TB! Commvault’s guideline shows “Large” at 10 TB index disk and doesn’t list a higher tier.https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/commcell-console/hardware_recommendations_for_index_server.htmlWhat’s the recommended practice beyond this — expand the SSD volume (scale up) or add index server nodes and redistribute with load balancing (scale out)?Is there any limit for a single INDEX (V2 with content indexing enabled) and what are best practices? Thanks for any real‑world experiences!Nikos
hi,For any of you still using tape on Linux MA’s, I was wondering if there’s a way to force the Expert Storage Configuration to use the alias (friendly names) created by udev rules for those devices and the changer?Setting up udev rules isn’t that hard and I know RH says that WWNN’s used “by-id” are automagic, but the names are never human intuitive. Plus we’ve seen some issues whereby rebooting the MA is a crapshoot that means sometimes the drives all work and mount media fine, and sometimes it’s no dice. I could never see the changes noted in the events and so created udev rules to try and keep things consistent, but the field can’t be edited in expert storage config under any circumstances, it just finds the ../scsi-blah devices and not any of the aliases.
The Security Assessment > Platform security page identifies a critical issue with the “File Activity Anomaly alert” not being enabled. Unfortunately, when I go into the Java GUI Console > Alerts > Configure Alerts, “File Activity Anomaly alert” doesn’t appear as one of the options. I’ve searched the documentation but don’t see any steps on how to load this alert. Does anyone know how to load a missing alert? (The File Activity Anomaly alert specifically.)Thanks in advance for any help.Ken
Hello All,I hope this email finds you well.I'm currently working on a data restoration task and have a specific question regarding Commvault's capabilities in a cross-platform scenario. We have a backup created from a standard Windows filesystem (e.g., using a Windows File System Agent). Our target for this restoration is a Dell PowerScale (Isilon) system, specifically into an NDMP share/volume.My primary question is whether Commvault supports the direct restoration of a backup taken from a standard Windows filesystem to an NDMP target on a Dell PowerScale appliance. If this functionality is indeed supported, could you please provide us with the relevant documentation, and ideally, a high-level overview of the steps involved in performing such a cross-platform restore? Regards,Robert
Hi Folks,we need to create quite a lot of custom packages (rpm) for linux clients on a regular basis (SAP-Oracle, SAP-Hana, Linux-fs, and so on.)We are currently doing this via ./cvpkgadd and then clicking through a lot of pages until the custom package is finished at the end. is there a way to automate this process via some command line where all necessary options (most of them can be left at the default value) are provided (which packages to include, to which commserve to connect to, ...)?Thanks for any ideas on this :)
Hi,Does anyone have a documentation of sql backup using intellisnap? I need to use with proxy servershould I configure the storage array that we are using? should I create a user when I configure the SQL subclient using intellisnap? Thanks
Is there a clear process to migrate from an Index Server Cloud to an Index Server? We have a two-node Index Server Cloud for Exchange Mailbox and its associated HAC Cluster that are due for a Hardware Refresh. Given that Index Server Cloud is deprecated we will need to look at migrating in the near term.
When trying to assign any data classification plan with our clients it shows this error??Someone please can help? (PlanID-[Number] is marked incomplete. No entity can be associated to the plan) NB: There is no missing setting related to this plan or any new plan with the same error.
Im running thru the process on how to rebuild the Web Server shown in the link belowhttps://documentation.commvault.com/11.42/commcell-console/web_server_hardware_refresh_setting_up_new_web_server.htmlThe process looks straight-forward except step 9################################################To restore MongoDB database on the Web Server:a.Copy the latest MongoDB backup file. To retrive backup files, see Retrieval of Disaster Recovery (DR) Backups From Storage.b.Run the Mongo recovery assistant tool.############################################Questions I have1. How do we get a backup of the MongoDB, it says here retrieve from DR Backup? The one in the DR backup are SQL DB files and not MongoDB?2. Is my understanding correct that this also applies to DR backup from the Commserve for a setup where the Web Server/Command center is in a separate server from the Commserver?3. It says run the Mongo Recovery assistant tool and then point the path to where the DR backup is? Also applies to
Planning to rebuild 3 web servers which are tiered. The Metrics reporting is setup to use Tiered Metrics reporting. Creating a CA-Signed Certificate for the Tomcat Server Is there any way I can avoid re-doing the creation of certs etc. Possibly saving a copy of critical files for tiered metrics reporting and copying it to the newly refresh Metrics reporting/web server Any advice is appreciated
