We are currently using Commvault v10 with Dell ML3 tape libraries. Initially, we encountered a media mount error on the library. After replacing the drives, we began receiving the following error intermittently on a few of the tape libraries. Once the drives were cleaned, backups resumed successfully. However, with one particular tape library, the issue persists even after replacing the drives.Note: During backup, the job runs for a few GB and failing with an error. Error Code: [40:73]Description: Error occurred in Library [Vxxxx], Drive Name [IBM ULT3580-HH7_2], Barcode [S77370L7], Path [\\.\Tape1] [Drive did not respond to commands properly. There may be too many drives on the SCSI Bus operating at the same time. Try reducing the number of drives on the SCSI Bus. Try reducing the synchronous transfer rate on the SCSI Controller. Or two controlling programs may be accessing the library concurrently. For more details, please check to see a corresponding Op
Hello,I am trying to recover a backup of a client VSA virtual machine from a secondary copy that was copied to tape approximately 5 years ago.The index version of the VSA client is V1 (I plan to migrate this VSA client to V2 next month. It’s the last client I have left to migrate). The Commvault version is 11.36.24The restoration I am performing is for the entire virtual machine. When attempting to restore, I get the following error message: "The medium is already reserved by some other job. We rarely perform tape recoveries, and what surprised me while researching is that this type of error seems usually appears in multi-stream database recoveries, but there’s no mention of VSA clients. You can see information here:https://kb.commvault.com/article/53924https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/combining_source_data_streams.htmlBefore open the case (#241023-299), I tested different restorations. Also checked that no other job is using this media. We even restarted the library and the med
Hi all,My customer is currently using S3 Glacier Deep Archive with Combined Tier: S3 Standard-Infrequent Access. So far, so good. However, they would like to use S3 Cross Region Replication, which does not replicate data written to the Deep Archive tier. So we are looking for an alternative solution. One alternative solution would be to use S3 Intelligent-Tiering (the Combined Tier is not available then). We believe that would allow the objects to be replicated before they are moved to the Deep Archive Tier. But I am unable to find a clear description on how that actually works with Commvault. Is all data indeed initially written to the “warm” tier? Will it allow the data to be replicated by CRR? Who determines which data can be moved to the Deep Archive Tier? Is that Amazon or Commvault? If it’s Amazon that determines which data can be moved to the Archive Tier, how do we ensure metadata and indexes are kept in the warm tier, even if they are not accessed for a while? Hope somebody can e
Hi Community,I’m working with Commvault v11.36.68 (on-prem) and need to generate a report—either through the CommCell Console or Command Center—that shows details for a specific storage policy.Specifically, I’d like to export: All schedules running under that storage policy The retention period associated with each schedule The goal is to understand what backups will run in a given week of the month and what their corresponding retention periods will be.I’ve been unable to find a built-in report or option that provides this information. Has anyone done this before, or is there a way to build such a report? Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Hello,I have a question regarding Intellisnap. Works well if I enable it here I have some PosgreSQL VMs hosted on VMware VXrailOn the VMs there is the PosgreSQL agent installed.I tried to enable intellisnap but it failsDBA team performs refresh environnements using the command center assistant and select the destination server. to improve restoration process, is it possible to use intellisnap on the posgreSQL agent to perform snapshots on the source VM and use these snapshots to perform the refresh on the destination ?I read the Commvault documentations and in my understanding, we can do that only with Hardware snap engine isn’t it ?Thanks
Hello Team, We are planning to implement Commvault backup of File system data (approx. 95 TB) and will use disk library of HPE object storage bucket. This is on-premises backup. Please advise any best practice to use in object backed target library. How many buckets to create from object storage will use in Commvault library. How many disk library to use (in each bucket to use single disk library or many buckets to use single library) Any ways to configure Data reader & writers limitationShall we use Dedup, Compression & encryption feature from commvault to use object based target. Thanks in advance.
Running 11.36.72 Started noticing jobs for the same storage policy where we have plenty of a certain number of streams available but readers are distributed sometimes to a single job while the other jobs part of the same storage policy go to a Waiting state. Most of the time I have noticed this with Full and incremental go waiting.Screenshot below shows all running (same stg policy) at the moment, but we can see the discrepancy between the job readers. How do I make sure that these are better distributed? Eanble stream randomization for backup is enabled Distribute data evenly among multiple strams is also enable
Hi,My Commserve has two network interfaces - one for backup traffic and everything, and second for management. For example: NIC1: cv-cs.domain.local and NIC2: cv-cs-mgmt.domain.local. When I click “Command Center” from Java Console, it redirects me to NIC1 hostname. Is there any option to edit default webserver address to second hostname? It works when I just enter cv-cs-mgmt.domain.local, but I would like to have all redirections working, like this “Command Center” button from Java GUI, hyperlinks from e-mail alerts etc.Regards,Mat
For an on-premises deployment, you can create a hypervisor configuration using the vCenter or a standalone ESX host. For a destination site that is a VMware Cloud on AWS deployment, you can only use the VMware vCenter as the destination hypervisor. as per the above statement , i can configure source and destination hypervisor as standalone esxi , does it work ? am getting stuck where the detination option vm storage policy stuck on loading
Looking for some advice.Have upgraded Commvault from V11.24 to v11.28. I have notice that majority of the backup jobs are stuck in the waiting state.Just checking out if someone had a similar issue. The streams appear to be fine. What is weird is per policy only 1 or 2 jobs are running out of a 100.This is a bit odd considering that this is backup to disk. Have the following settings in place in all of the Media Agents/Storage policy1. Optimize for concurrent lan backup2. Device streams set to more than 100 per Media Agent ( some are even 200)3. The jobs running are only using 1 or 2 streams.Have tried to suspend aux copy to see if some of the jobs can run but still the same. The SQL backend for Commvault is SQL server 2019 with Windows 2022 as the OS.Running out of ideas. Any help is appreciated..
Hi,I have been using some custom ondemand backupsets for about a year to essentially spool (if that’s the correct term) content from some NFS paths to tape. Each backupset has one subclient, one directive obviously, and one content file which each day is updated to contain 2 directories. What I can’t seem to find is how the number of readers is set or limited. Did readers disappear and replaced by the folder level multithreading? If so, then I think I can figure it out. Basically my read on this is (historically) each path in a content file was “a stream” but in 11.36 the notes seem to imply each content file is a stream, either way, IMO with my configuration the job should be limited to 1 stream - Can a vaulter confirm? If this is the case then why do I see 4 streams for that “job” which should be technically limited to 2? Does the number of Network Agents factor in along with the Number of threads? I just don’t see where this is explained.thanks!
Hello,I have a VMware vSAN cluster. I configure a few VSA servers. While I’m trying to start a backup, I get this error message on every VM:[Object policy is not compatible with datastore space efficiency policy configured on the duster Snapshot creation attempt took [00:01]] Please check the virtual machine snapshot tree.Object policy is not compatible with datastore space efficiency policy configured on the duster Snapshot creation attempt took [00:01]] Please check the virtual machine snapshot tree.ks. Hi, I am using Threatscan and my daily Threat Analysis job scan’s my three policy copies Primary to disk AUX to disk AUX to tape is there a way for this job to only scan the first copy ? when it gets to the tape copy its looking for tapes that have been removed from the library. on version 11.40
Hi Commvault CommunityI am performing backups of a NetApp cluster. This backup consists of two logical partitions (called "vserver", in case you are familiar with NetApp) and each of these partitions is domain-joined offering CIFS/SMB file services. The content of these servers are thousands of files, but we could say that their size ranges from medium to large. The backups for these two servers are performed using the NAS Files agent — we are not using NDMP. Most importantly, the backups are written directly to a tape library. Each server’s backup goes to its own LTO9 drive, always as a full backup — we do not use incremental backups.Over the past few months, we have noticed a drop in backup performance. No infrastructure changes have been made; the only change was updating the Commvault maintenance release. Here is a comparison of backups for the same server on different dates. Both servers have essentially the same data, but in the May backup, we can see a latency increase, which caus
Hi Team, I have 6284 file servers. When I try to export Protect-->File Servers list as csv/xlsx the row count always 5000. Is there a limitation ? How can I change to max ? Best Regards.
How can we finetune the the file activity of the the threat indicators on individual servers. We have some servers in our environment that triggers on specific occasions, as false positives. One instance is SCCM servers, which triggers when updates are modified and prepared.Another is a large fileserver that has some batchjob running at intervals modifying large amount of files. Could turn them off, but would like to check if I’m able to finetune this to get less false positives. I see there is additional settings to exclude paths, Enable I/O detection patterns and training dataset size. The two last ones I cannot find any clear documentation on what they do. Maybe someone has some more information?
We have RedHat Linux 10 version installed on physical server and connected to SAS attached storage. We are planning to make this as Linux media server with DDB. Could anyone help with the commands in an order required for the entire configuration like Enable Multipathing, Scan all LUNs, Assign proper device..etc basically end to end setup.
When you connect to a local account, the console is connected normally, but when you connect to an AD account, the console's row occurs.
If you connect to a local account, Commserve will connect normally, but if you connect to an AD account, a row will occur

Hi, we have to move our current commvault (live sync) env to another domain and new ipaddresses. We have 2 locations with each 3 backup servers and each 1 commcell console. What is the best way to do this?remove all the backup and comcell servers from AD, change ipaddresse and add them to the new domain? How about the license, this is connected to the ipaddresse? Do I have to change some settings in the comcell console like name management? any other things to think about……..
If you log in to Commcell after accessing your local account, it will connect well. However, if you log in to Commcell after accessing your AD account, the line is stuck in the pop-up window.
Hi,we use Simpana 11.28.44.Is it possible to backup a agent over SAN because we have an internal firewall and i think the backup over LAN is slower than over SAN. - Map in my virtual machine a SAN lun.- Backup the data to that SAN lun- MediaAgent have also map that lun and backup the data from that lun.Is that possible?RegardsDennis
Hi Community,I’m experiencing a strange behavior from my CommServe. When running Check Readiness on some clients, the first attempt (and sometimes the second) shows the status as Disconnected. However, after trying 3 or more times, it finally changes to Ready. Network connectivity is stable with no significant latency. The issue occurs with multiple clients, not just one. Once the client is marked as Ready, backups run without issues. Has anyone encountered this behavior before?I appreciate any guidance or similar experiences.
Can’t download 11.36.65 using console or command center. Powershell does reach downloadcenter.commvault.com on 443 from the Commcell. T1 support says the site is down, but no outage is reported on CV anywhere that I see. Can anyone confirm the outage? If so, when will it be back up?
