Any advice to install a commserve on a linux host? We checked this article https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/expert/132365_commserve_server_system_requirements_linux.html  and installed all packets and SW.We have tested to install on linux 8.4, 8.3 and 7.7 and the option to create a new commcell or install commserve never appears. We have also tested with version 11.25 and 11.26.

I’ve inherited commvault from our previous admin. They’ve done a pretty decent job about documenting some items but it hasn’t been updated in years.  We’ve been playing cat and mouse with backups and dealing with upper management not wanting to purchase more storage, and they want an easy answer on what is eating up all of our storage, what's being backed up, what's not, and why we would need a 500k storage upgrade. And obviously licensing is an issue as well. I want to also preface this with our company has finally drawn up a retention policy so were not keeping junk that's over 10 years old anymore. We handle sensitive information as a government contractor, so all of our storage is on prem. No cloud instances. I have 3 storage pools and a disaster recovery site in another state. I was trying to setup LDAP commcell->security. I do have port open but getting an error while setup.so I was concerned if it is possible to setup LDAP/AD under to commserve which is laid under a workgroup?

Hi, When checking the documentation, and the cmmandcenter, for installing Mongodb backups we only see the possibilty for adding mongodb clusters.but on our end, we only have a single instance mongodb installations. Does that mean we cannot backup the mongodb with commvault?  https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/99404_configuring_mongodb_client.html

Hi,  Does anyone has seen/been able to solve the following error. Reason: <There was error during initialization of information from input XML / local registry.> I have a cluster instance with 2 nodes. The nodes are online and i can make a back-up of the file system. But the Cluster Instance can't update/connect to nodes somehow. (add nodes to cluster in CommVault). This is the error i am getting so far. I deleted the nodes in the cluster instance and force sync, then added and force sync, still the same error remains as it is.   

I'm new to data backups. I apologise if my questions are too simple. Would the process of creating a Microsoft SQL backup include copying data records from a SQL Server database, or would it copy the entire image of the data volume (logical partition)? How does commvault locate the partition containing the database? Should I take a volume level backup in addition to a SQL data backup in case it isn't done as part of the process?

After end of the year schedule ran we lost all currently backup data for that day DAY and this incident happen to SQL DBsjobs that was selected to run AUXILLARY COPY too was clear and from the history did not show any job ran that day why.am suppose to see history of backup job for sql backup for 2021 /12/30 to 31 jobs that ran but to my suprise all job history was wipe out.

Hello All,I have one physical Commserve which acts as media agent. The JBOD is mounted to commserve as direct attached storage which acts as disk library.Now I want to separate the media agent, disk library by moving the commserve module to new VM.How to separate the media agent, disk library, ddb?Will I be able to uninstall the commserve module from exisiting commserve and install the commserve module on new VM. Post cs installation I am planning to use CSrecoveryassistant to restore the DR dump on new VM to being back the environment online.With the above steps done, my old commserve continue to be only media agent and new vm acts as commserve.Will this work?RegardsAnanth

Hello,Why CommVault have not for each release all 1-Touch iso images, to download?in one release we have 1-Touch Physical ISO and 1-Touch Virtual ISO and the next I found only 1-Touch WinPE .is there any recommendation which ISO is to use? do I ever use the correct release, then I need configure driver on 1-Touch WinPE10, next time I have a different release I can use 1-Touch Physical ISO, I am a little confused about this strategy. regards Juergen

Hi experts, IHAC who runs SAP HANA on vmware vsphere and also CVLT to protect it.We’re performing  agent based application backup to ensure the consistency of SAP HANA database.And we’re about to do the agentless backup using vmware snapshot feature.But customer is reluctant to do a vm level snapshot backup because they experienced snapshot backup job caused the unexpected hang on vm when they ran Veritas NetBackup. We don’t expect application level consistency by performing vmware snapshot technology, not Intellisnap.Just want entire disk image(vmdk) to be protected in terms of system level. Do you guys have any experience or confirmation that CVLT snapshot backup on vm which hosts SAP HANA won’t cause any problem while performing a backup? Thanks

Hi Community,I have configured MFA in Commvault before V11 FR24, at that time it is required to have functioning mail address to send secret key, that can can be used in Microsoft or Google authenticator., and I have also uses SAML and ADFS based MFA, but again they also depends on Azure AD or tools like okta to generate PIN. i read in one community post, from FR25 we can use accounts with QR code, and our admin accounts are not configured with mailboxes, and they don’t forward emails to user mailboxes.we are using Microsoft authenticator for PIN generation, and Commvault is generating QR code for accounts with mailboxes, but not for accounts without mailboxes.   

Hi! We are in the process of replacing our old 6-node MSSQL cluster with a new 4-node cluster that will be using Always On Availability Groups. The existing cluster and it’s backups was configured many years ago by someone else who is no longer working here, and I am not a Windows Cluster, or MS-SQL person, but more of a storage person :-) Now, i’m trying to wrap my head around what would/should be the “best practice” way of configuring this for backups & restore.What i have done so far is of course to install the mssql-agent on all 4 physical nodes. And from what i can figure out from reading through documentation, it seems i should create a “MSSQL AG Client” pseudo-client for each “ms sql availability group”, which would add up to around 15-20 different pseudo-clients.    However, when looking at the current existing configuration for the old MSSQL-cluster, it is only a single “pseudo-client” that contains all “ms sql availability groups”…. so i guess the question is, how did the

Hi,Somehow I could not find any information on whether Commvault is affected by CVE-2022-21449, the Java “Psychic Signatures” vulnerability. It seems to affect only JDK 15 or later.. Is there anybody having the information on this?Thank you. 

Hello,we are running DB2 backup AIX LPAR. We have noted that CPU load is high“In virtualized environments (e.g.,LPAR, WPAR, Solaris Zones etc.,) where dedicated CPUs are not allocated, backup jobs may result in high CPU usage on production servers. The following measures can be taken to optimize the CPU usage”Best Practices - AIX File System (commvault.com) The steps were covered and additional registry keys to limit CPU load and core usage were set in place. Switching deduplication to MediaAgent didn’t provided sufficient change, almost no CPU consumption change was in place. Only jobs without deduplication consumes less CPU, but we cannot use them. At the end we can limit CPU load to 50-60% from up to 90%, but it impacts the backup duration few times. Playing with streams is not an option too since additional CPU consumption occurs. We manage the Commvault service for a customer.In the CommServe, the customer has more than 1500 clients.Whenever there is a new client, the customer will install Commvault on their client, and we configure the backup in the CS when the new client appears.However, the customer doesn’t install the same version as the CS. They always use an older version.Is there a way to push the correct version to new clients automatically?Today, hundreds of the customer’s clients have an older version, and we would like them to get on the same version as CS.Is there a best practice for keeping clients up to date?We have discussed creating an automatic group and add a rule for clients with status “Needs update”, but we are concerned it will create issues for the customer or the CS, like delay in backups or overload the CS..?How does CS queue the update jobs, if we have a group with 300 clients and push update to the entire group..?  

 We have a Schedule Policy for Linux clients with two tasks: one for Incremental and one for Synthetic Full based on automatic schedule settings.We noticed that Synthetic Full is running once per week.
