Hey everyone,I have an EOL Media Agent1 set up for CM, and I want to decommission it and create a new Media Agent2. I’ve looked through the docs, and I see we can transfer everything manually or by using the Replace MediaAgent app.Since I’ve got 250 TB of data, I’m not sure which option is better. What are the pros and cons of doing it manually vs using the Media Agent app? Also, do I need to cancel all backups while I’m transferring the data? And, if I set up Media Agent2 from scratch and recreate all the jobs, can I still use Media Agent1 if something goes wrong?Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
I have kind of an odd question. We have a VMware file server that has the primary data drive (D:) set to be compressed within Windows. During busy times where our system generates thousands of statements, the files server sometimes can’t keep up and we have problems. The plan to fix this is:Run a CommVault incremental backup of the virtual file server. Stop CommVault backups of the file server Create a new, uncompressed 8TB E: drive Shut down the application so nobody makes changes to the files. Run a script to sync the old, compressed D: to the new, uncompressed E: Unmount the existing compressed D: Rename the new uncompressed E: to D: Reboot the file server and check the “new” D: Bring the system online Complete a business test of basic functionality Run a full CommVault backup and enable regularly scheduled backupsOther than ensuring that CommVault does not attempt to run a backup while all the changes are taking place, I don’t think there’s anything special I need to do to ensure C
Hello Team,We have a linux Commserve and a commandcenter on version 11.34. We recently updated our two Commserve’s to 11.32.65.In both CommandCenter’s the “Jobs in the last 24 hours” tile now seems to not reflect the correct number of jobs for each category.I monitored the failed jobs the last days and it always stated 0 although when I go into the list of failed jobs it is not empty. The other minor issue I noticed in only one of the CommandCenter’s is that the Health-tile is loading indefinitely. The Health report itself is working fine as far as I can tell. Is there something I can do to reset the dashboard to fix these issues? Thanks in advance!
Good morning,I want to set up a backup of SQL managed instances, does anyone have experience with that? What I heard is that because we run on SP32 commvault that there is a limit of 200GB per DB. Is that true? Because configuration and starting of backup I get an error message that DB cannot be exported.I use the following configuration:For Cloud authentication: Entra ID account with access to storage accountFor sql authentication: sql admin account with sysadmin roleApp registration created with access to the storage account. Thanks in advance.

Like the title says, I am no longer to login with my AD credentials to my compliance search site. I can log into the CommVault Console with the same credentials I am attempting to login with to the compliance search site. I have used this site for years and no issues. Not sure what happened or where to look. I’ve verified in the condole: Security>Domains>*my domain* is working. No AD account configured can log into the Compliance Search piece. Any ideas where to look for an answer?
Hi Everyone, Quick question – we’ve got SQL backups set up with Data and Logs pointing to different storage policies. Commvault support advised against it, saying that restores could fail if one MediaAgent is offline because the Full backup depends on the Tlog backup. Curious to know – is anyone here running separate policies for SQL backups? How do you handle the risk? Or is it just better to have both on the same storage policy? Also, any thoughts on using the "Honor SQL Chaining for Full Jobs" setting as a workaround?Would love to hear from anyone who’s dealt with this. Any gotchas here please? Thank you!
Hi Commvault Experts! Please advise us on how to change the retention period for the Office 365 Online Exchange. I have noticed that the retention period specified in the classical storage policy for Exchange Online 365 is not being followed. Indeed, I can see in the Data Retention Forecast and Compliance report that Data Aging is disabled for special clients. We attempted to adjust the Office 365 Plan: Standard Office 365 Mailbox retention policy—Received Time-Based Retention (under Policies → Configuration Policies → Exchange Policies in the Commvault Java Console)—but it didn’t help. After running data aging, old data is still present in the primary backup storage. In the Command Center, we couldn’t find an option to change the retention period—perhaps because a server plan type is being used instead of an Office 365 plan?In general, how can we remove old data that isn’t aged due to Data Aging being disabled for special clients—in our case, the Office 365 Exchange client? Where can Dat
Hi, I want to plan and do Commvault LIveSync Planned failover - Can I continue backup jobs from the commserver which is Failover commserver .After planned failover or can it only be read
My OneDrive backups have stopped working because the five App / Secret Key combinations I had set up expired. I created new App / Secret keys and deleted the old expired ones from in Azure. I then signed on to CommandCenter, navigated to Protect > Office 365 > OneDrive_V2 > Configuration, added the new App / secret key values and deleted the old. When I click “Verify connection”, I get:The application wasn’t found in the directory/tenant. ErrorCode: AADSTS700016Does anyone know where the problem is?
We currently have an old (v11.20) setup with the Commserve at a central location, and multiple mediaagents with local iSCSI SAN at remote sites. As we’re about to do a major overhaul since both SW and HW support are expiring this year, there is a wishlist item that I haven’t so far figured out if CommVault can provide:If a remote site goes offline, we want local personell there to be able to perform restores. We would still like to gather all backups at the central location(s) though, and have centralized overview and control when everything is running normally…So the question is: Can this be done? I’ve tried browsing docs and whitepapers etc. but haven’t found anything that seemed relevant - can you have server tiers with (limited) local autonomy but still have central management and control? Please also note that our whole environment is very much closed off to the outside world, so any form of cloud service etc. is a hard no.
Hi Team, I just wondering oracle agent supported by Commvault Synthetic Full backup ? Like oracle standby, oracle rac, oracle data guard?Best Regards.
Hi,we have an Oracle tape library and sometimes i must clean the drives. I must do that over the web console from the library. Is it not possible that commvault does it automatically when a cleaning is needed? Thanks and regardsDennis
Hello, TeamI have deployed and completed configuration of commserve server in about 3 weeks and when trying to access the command center; the error below shows upp.I have restarted the tomcat services multiple times. Kindly help on this
Hello Commvault!Im looking about Data Integrity Validation, and see that Commvault supports the following configurable features to ensure data integrity:https://documentation.commvault.com/11.20/data_integrity_validation.htmlCyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) validation Data VerificationHowever, Im looking if these features are supported also for HPE StoreOnce appliances, or are limited only for Commvault DDB Disk / Cloud Storage backup repositories. Please for your feedback,Nikos
Hi all, quick question. I have upgraded to 11.36 and I just noticed my DDB backups run every 3 days now.Found why they changes from the BOLhttps://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/changes_in_commvault_platform_release_2024e_01.htmlSystem created schedule for deduplication database (DDB) backups are run once every 3 days. What is the reason they changed them to every 3 days ? I used to to have them run daily. Thanks
Thinking of renaming some policies and subclients to make them more readable.Does this break anything? Jobs? Retention? Schedules?Pretty sure Commvault tracks these by IDs, so it shouldn’t matter… right? But wanna make sure there’s no funky behavior hiding. Also , what happens if you’ve got one subclient doing backups and another doing replication for the same VM? Could this mess up snapshots or indexes?Like, is it gonna throw errors because two subclients are both taking snapshots of the same VM? Or maybe cause some weird restore behavior?Appreciate your help overall!
We are starting to use the VMware backup validation feature (it’s great!) and we are getting quite a few “Fail to boot VM” results in our weekly test. Using the “Validate backup” per VM the mounted backup looks promising but Commvault shuts it off.Can the wait out time be extended?
Dear Community,I’m asking how to restore encrypted DB2 database to an unencrypted location Since it’s doable from DB2 side using command line, I mean how to configure NO ENCRYPTION for restore job from commserve side ? Thanks in advance
Thinking of cleaning up some storage policies — maybe moving a few subclients from one policy to another to keep things tidy.Qs: Any risk of data loss or backup issues when moving subclients between policies? Does this kind of change trigger a full backup, or will it continue incremental as usual? (Kinda hoping I don’t get hit with a surprise full backup… 😅 Appreciate your feedback everyone!
How many services accounts per 1k users do I need to backup hybrid Exchange environment?
hey everyone I wanted to ask if I can move the default location for a restore (before it moves the data further) ?
Hello All,I am backing up a VM daily Incremental and Weekly Shyntetic Full backup from different subclients as the following (GAR-PND-PRD_VM_Set_1,GAR-PND-PRD_VM_Set_2)I have Full backup from both of subclient taken on Monday. and I have Incremental backup taken on Tuesday from subclient GAR-PND-PRD_VM_Set_1 . I have another incremental backup taken on Wednesday from GAR-PND-PRD_VM_Set_2. I am using CBT backup both of subcleint. If I restore VM from the Incremental backup from the GAR-PND-PRD_VM_Set_2 subclient, Will I Cover all data from Wednesday Tuesday and Monday ? Or I will just have data from Wednesday and Monday?
