Hello Community,I’m currently in the process of migrating archive backups to Azure using Azure Data Box. I have a specific question regarding the overall size of data after migration. Could someone provide insights into whether there might be any changes to the data size during this process? If so, what kind of differences should I take into account? The Azure Data Box is attached as copy to storage policies with deduplication active.Migration is from Azure DATA Box -> Azure Storage Account Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Hi All, Our environment is a mid size enterprise setup, we have around 250 servers hosted on On-Prem and Azure. We have configured sync copy to azure with retentions of 10 years for the On-Prem servers and for servers on Azure we have just 1 copy of backup. We would like to have immutable copy on azure and worm protection in commvault. It would be really grateful if anyone can list down the steps and precautions to be taken along with price calculator. We would like to have a weekly full backup with 14 days retention and 2 cycles on this copy.We would also like to know if deduplication is supported? and what preferred storage type (Hot/Cold) on Azure is preferred. Can we use existing media agent which is being used for Sync copy to perform the copy on this selective copy?Does this solution offer a complete end to end protection from cyber attack/ransomware?
Hello,We are having two physical media agents with shared disk library (CIFS) and tape library connected to them. We want to virtualize these media agents, however, after virtualizing we want to run the existing physical MAs for some time due to backup retention on the tape library. We want to setup new virtual MA, migrate the DDB & IndexCache to new virtual. Now the existing physical media is left with the tape library and no DDB/Index. Is it possible to perform restores from the tape library using these physical MAs?Idea is to run the new backups using virtual MAs and turn the physical MAs off when retention on the tape library expires. Thanks.
Hello, hopefully i have this request in the proper place and it has not been asked before. So I have 2 exchange environments because where is the fun in just having one. I currently have a 2013 exchange env. running 2013. Dag1also an exchange 2019 system. Dag2 My ask is.. We are only interested in backing up the databases within the dags. Which is happening and no issues, but today I was looking at capacity usage and I notice that all the DAGS are part of a multi server setup, and these servers are also doing a file level backup, to me it seems that this is a duplication of backups and I only need the DAG DB’s. can someone confirm this is true and I only need to be backing up the DAG data and not the actual servers that are doing a file level backup as well. btw, I am using the passive copies in the DAGS. thanksChris
We are running out of space and need to redesign. I haven’t used Commvault in some time and forgot how.
Hello Gentlemen, I would like help with the following error.A new Bucket was created in our Nutanix, with the WORM immutability function. And in commvault, when trying to create a new cloud storage, it presents the following error in the image below: Note: I performed the test using the Cloud Test Tool software and the error returned talks "You must provide a Content-MD5 header with object blocking fields" .......Image below: Test Upload/Donwaload : Test Access Functionality Check: I am sending the Logs as an Attachment:CVD (taken from commserve)EvMgrs (taken from Mediaagent)CloudActive (taken from Mediaagent)
Hello Community,I am a tenant admin in Commvault so I don't have access to Commcell or Java console. But I can add NAS, servers, virtualization. I currently have a problem with NAS backups from Isilon and each incremental job takes 7 or 8 hours. The data size is 1TB and there are more than 2 million files.I first added a NAS, i.e. Isilon (with array), using add server and then a CIFS subclient as backup source. Since we already started with version 11.28, I assume that the changelist for Isilon is enabled. But I don't understand why an incremental job takes so long every day. Strangely, I see that after a synthetic backup, the incremental job only takes about 30 minutes. But the next day it will take 8 hours again.I would like to ask if anyone has had a similar experience. Many thanks in advance.Thanks.
Hi,I have tried to restore oracle database to disk but I did not find the option restore to Disk.
Hello,If a VM is being backed-up ( VSA backup ) from 2 different backup-sets using the same storage pool, is there any impact on the license consumed by this VM ? will there be a double ‘charge’ for it - per Front-End ( capacity license ) ? Thanks
I am wanting to increase my level of understanding of the IntelliSnap Big Data backup and recovery process. I have searched the Community, Partner University, and knowledgebases, and documentation without success. Can anyone help with the followingProvide list of links or explanation that explains how this process works for backup and recovery and the differences between VM, San based Snaps, and COW(Linux Copy On Write). COW (Linux Copy on Write) Snapshots vs hardware snapshots, pros and cons Are there scalability limitations with COW snaps. A break down on what some of the options actually do when configuring the Big Data VMware snaps. The documentation either ignores or glosses over this. When using SAN Snapshots from a VM using Big Data (say mongo Idata agent), will I need to present the LUN as an RDM using NPIV. Is there a detailed method for doing this?
Hello, I’m during the backups migration from tapes to disk library. I have encountered the problem with jobs that are somehow disabled. The retention of job is still valid. Auxiliary Copy is skipping this job. This is the error that I’m getting when I’m trying to pick the jobs for copy
Hi,Is there a way to identify files by name and location who where during the file scan marked as new?We know they are not new as they the data backupped is low.The reason is probably a right or attribute changed as we also see no modification dates changed.Data is located on a network share on a Isilon using a Windows File Agent
Hello, We’re currently establishing a yearly reporting for backup size of our systems. Can someone explain the difference between "Protected Application Size" and "Total Size On Media" in Commvault Reports? Thank you and best Regards
Hi,in V11.32, is there an option to change the data paths for a primary snap copy ?In former versions I could simply change the data path in the storage policy copy, but no it is bound to a storage pool, I intend to replace. The dedupe engines associated are already empty and I created new Storage Pools for the active backups copies and seondary copies.I’m not able to complete delete the Storage Pool, since the meta data of the snapshot jobs are still stored there.adding the new disklibrary to the existing pool might enable me to delete the currently used disk lib and paths, but the original StoragePool has to be maintained, although not really used to store backup data.rgdsKlaus
Im trying to recover a document that seems to be on an older tapeIs there a way i can identify which tape it is stored on from the document information?
Hello All,We are using Linux Media Agents, on of the sudden media agent went offline with some communication issue with the ports 8400 & 8403 (we are using for communication) and there is no changes from server end. After restarting the CV services, it was back again, but we need to know that what is the reason it is going offline? which log to refer the check the actual issue, I have checked cvd.log, cvfwd.log but can’t find anything.Did anyone know, how can we exactly point to the issue with a log or event?
Hi everybody,I get a message from the tape library that there are no free/spare tapes left (see first picture below). Can somebody tell me how can I use the aged tapes again and what I need to click to mark them usable again? In the picture below you can see that I have no spares, but in scratch pool (Media in the Library) there are many tapes that no longer have any data (see photo below). How can I mark one of them and assign it for reuse? It would be a great help to me if someone could tell me how I can use the aged tapes again.
I am planning to migrate the media agent and disk library to a new setup. The current media agents and disk library contain backups with a six-month retention period. If I perform an auxiliary copy to the new storage, which is connected to the new media agent, will restoring old backups become an issue? Will it require access to the deduplication database of the old media agent? Or does the deduplicated data also copy with auxiliary copy?
Hello,Can you please explain to me what is the difference between Device Streams, Data Streams and Readers ? And what is the efficient way to use them in Commvault? It would so good if you had some smart explanations.Greetings, Eugen
Where a customer has a requirement to restore data from a Secondary Copy, rather than restoring all of the data directly from that Secondary Copy, it would be useful if there were an option to use something akin to the DASH Copy process to transmit only the blocks that are not available via the Primary Copy.I could see this being really beneficial for restoring back to remote office locations, and for reducing egress costs when recovering from cloud (especially from Archive tier).Alternatively, something like a Copy Back option could work, where jobs can be copied back to the Primary Copy, leveraging DASH Copy.
HI Community,Today we did a migration of our DDB to DDBv5 ( a grid with 4 MAs).But we got this error message for one MA in the grid:“Compact partition failed - Failed to compact partition in MA [MA name]. Command [sidb2 -compactfile secondary -i 68 -split 2 -cn “MA name” -in "Instance001"]. Output [sh: pstack: command not found ]. ExitCode [1]:enable garbage collection failed” and also this error on the Workflow job “Attempts” tab:Sourced file: inline evaluation of: `` if(v_05e48dac_fcb3_428d_801e_d8cb46c39b54!=0) { string failureReason = v_c26 . . . '' : Typed variable declaration : Class: string not found in namespaceSource: calypso, Process: WorkflowAfter the failed message the One MA got restored and DDB reconstructed.Did anyone came accross this error or any suggestion to solve this issue please ?Thanks
Hi Community,We are securing our infra machines, so we want to setup up “File Activity anomaly alert” for our MAs in linux in real time. From this link i could see the unusual activity in real time is only for Windows. Is there any other alert we can configure for monitoring the unusual file activity in real time on Linux machines?Ps: we have already enabled the ransomware protection on our MAs.Thanks you in advance.
how to diable policy warm copy option "this medium content valid data in warm storage"
Hello, I have hp 2024 LTO9 tape backup solution in my inventory. The problem is that although the tapes are 45TB RW, it writes less data to 1 tape and switches to the other tape as seen in the attachment. Therefore the system stops. How can I make it write to the same tape until a single 45TB RW tape is full?
What are folks using for the storage to backend your On-Prem Commvault installation?Today we are using IBM fiber channel arrays. They are getting a bit old, and we are looking to refresh. Are you using FC SANs? IP? ISCSI? NFS? SMB?What vendor hardware are you using? Are you happy with it?Any other info you would like to share would be greatly appreciated.
