Hi everybody,I get a message from the tape library that there are no free/spare tapes left (see first picture below). Can somebody tell me how can I use the aged tapes again and what I need to click to mark them usable again? In the picture below you can see that I have no spares, but in scratch pool (Media in the Library) there are many tapes that no longer have any data (see photo below). How can I mark one of them and assign it for reuse? It would be a great help to me if someone could tell me how I can use the aged tapes again.
I am planning to migrate the media agent and disk library to a new setup. The current media agents and disk library contain backups with a six-month retention period. If I perform an auxiliary copy to the new storage, which is connected to the new media agent, will restoring old backups become an issue? Will it require access to the deduplication database of the old media agent? Or does the deduplicated data also copy with auxiliary copy?
Hello,Can you please explain to me what is the difference between Device Streams, Data Streams and Readers ? And what is the efficient way to use them in Commvault? It would so good if you had some smart explanations.Greetings, Eugen
Where a customer has a requirement to restore data from a Secondary Copy, rather than restoring all of the data directly from that Secondary Copy, it would be useful if there were an option to use something akin to the DASH Copy process to transmit only the blocks that are not available via the Primary Copy.I could see this being really beneficial for restoring back to remote office locations, and for reducing egress costs when recovering from cloud (especially from Archive tier).Alternatively, something like a Copy Back option could work, where jobs can be copied back to the Primary Copy, leveraging DASH Copy.
HI Community,Today we did a migration of our DDB to DDBv5 ( a grid with 4 MAs).But we got this error message for one MA in the grid:“Compact partition failed - Failed to compact partition in MA [MA name]. Command [sidb2 -compactfile secondary -i 68 -split 2 -cn “MA name” -in "Instance001"]. Output [sh: pstack: command not found ]. ExitCode [1]:enable garbage collection failed” and also this error on the Workflow job “Attempts” tab:Sourced file: inline evaluation of: `` if(v_05e48dac_fcb3_428d_801e_d8cb46c39b54!=0) { string failureReason = v_c26 . . . '' : Typed variable declaration : Class: string not found in namespaceSource: calypso, Process: WorkflowAfter the failed message the One MA got restored and DDB reconstructed.Did anyone came accross this error or any suggestion to solve this issue please ?Thanks
Hi Community,We are securing our infra machines, so we want to setup up “File Activity anomaly alert” for our MAs in linux in real time. From this link i could see the unusual activity in real time is only for Windows. Is there any other alert we can configure for monitoring the unusual file activity in real time on Linux machines?Ps: we have already enabled the ransomware protection on our MAs.Thanks you in advance.
how to diable policy warm copy option "this medium content valid data in warm storage"
Hello, I have hp 2024 LTO9 tape backup solution in my inventory. The problem is that although the tapes are 45TB RW, it writes less data to 1 tape and switches to the other tape as seen in the attachment. Therefore the system stops. How can I make it write to the same tape until a single 45TB RW tape is full?
What are folks using for the storage to backend your On-Prem Commvault installation?Today we are using IBM fiber channel arrays. They are getting a bit old, and we are looking to refresh. Are you using FC SANs? IP? ISCSI? NFS? SMB?What vendor hardware are you using? Are you happy with it?Any other info you would like to share would be greatly appreciated.

I have two sites, Primary and Secondary. Withe Auxcopy to the secondary site which is stores the only long term retention copies. We have firewalls in place so only the clients can only see the servers in the site they are in.This causes a problem when I am trying to restore long term retention data from the Secondary site to the primary site. We have a work around of Auxcopying data from Secondary to Primary site but would like a more elegant solution. I think there is a method where I can use a media agent in my Primary site to proxy my requests to the Secondary site to do these recoveries but cannot work out how. Any solutions appreciated.
Hello dear Commvault users and Commvault specialists, Our libraries are growing unexpectedly. Initial analysis revealed no visible errors. Our two media agents show readiness check OK. The Disk Library Growth Trend report shows data growth, but says not what exactly is the cause and doesn’t show where (which sub client) is the most growing object. That is why my question is, what options are there in Commvault to check the data growth to identify the sub clients, which are growing at most. Our Commvault version is 11.32.23. I would be grateful for any advice.
Hi Community,I had recently moved a mountpoint to and existing drive. The move mountpoint job had completed successfully, but the data from the old mountpoint has not been purged. The size is approx. 12TB.What can I do to purge the old data, as there is another requirement for the provided LUN.
HiI have full backup daily.Basic retention is set to 7 day 1 cycle. I need to extend retention only for first Saturday of each month to 90 day.How to specific the first Saturday?
Hi all,any advantages, other than security with removing attack surface, when using iSCSI attached volumes from a NAS directly to the Windows MediaAgent rather then writing via SMB to the NAS share? In regards of performance, ransomware protection etc?Your thoughts are highly appreciated, thanks in advanceregardsMichael
HelloMy organisation currently has a process of deactivating exiting staff members by removing 365 licenses.I therefore have two dynamic groups one active (which captures licensed users) and another disabled. These two dynamic groups form the content for OneDrive for Business backups in Commvault. Office 365 app: OneDrive_activeusers Content: backup_ActiveUsersOffice 365 app: OneDrive_disabledusers Content: backup_disabledusers When a user moves from one group to another Commvault seems to do a new full backup. If this is the case, are we doubling up on the backups unnecessarily?Thank you.
Hello Team,I want clarification of DDB disk for an each disk library. We have three different storage hardware devices for different disk libraries.First disk library will use primary backup data, another disk library for monthly (selective monthly copy) and third disk library for Yearly backup (selective yearly copy) .These all three disk libraries configured in one media agent server.Just want to know each disk library will configure individual DDB disk or one disk will use these three disk libraries. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
Can you please explain me why there is a space - but the same time it is occupied on disk?
I had 2 disks go bad in my local iSCSI SAN late last week. I have multiple mount paths attached to it from Commvault. The array has since been repaired, and the RAID rebuilt successfully, but I continue to get these errors, and my concern is there is some disk corruption on the drive(s). The mount paths are formatted in Windows as ReFS. I tried running scandisk, but it’s not available on ReFS, but I could use the Refsutil to scan and fix the drive if necessary.I’m seeing the errors on Aux Copy jobs, which is interesting, cause all my Aux Copies are sending data to Azure, not the local SAN. Not sure if that matters or not.Any thoughts on where to go from here?
Hi’After archiving some files in UNIX server we are not able to restore them we can’t found this files. Regards.
I’ve been discussing a topic with a Commvault user of an issue they are having. They do not use Commvault deduplication for their backups as they are writing to an array with deduplication. They are now looking to create a Secondary Copy of their data to replicate to Scality Ring. However, my concern is they are going to run into the same problem they did when they tested Air Gap Protect - the secondary copy inherits the primary copy’s compression settings (not enabled), so the deduplication performance is not where we would anticipate it to be.If that’s the case, is there any other feature out there that would allow them to write both a non-deduplicated copy (primary) and a deduplicated copy (secondary) with different compression settings? Documentation makes it look like you can change the settings for a Storage Policy Copy, but I believe it is only referencing the Primary Storage Policy Copy as the top level explicitly states the compression settings for Aux Copies adheres to the Pr
Hello We have Commvault Recovery environment . All our Tapes are encrypted using IBM SKLM . Now we are planning to migrate the Tape data to EMC s3 storage to eliminate tape. What is the steps to need to create a aux copy to migrate the tape data to s3 storage. How to eliminate the encryption which was enabled on the Tape while migrating through aux copy. Thanks,Sandy
IHAC who wants to change from 3DES encryption to AES-256. I know we don’t re-encrypted data that already exists in the library, but the question is do we see a noticeable difference in storage consumption between ciphers? We list performance ratings here, but do any of them have a higher or lower storage consumption penalty?https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/supported_algorithms_for_software_encryption.html
Hi community,we are migrating from another solution to Commvault’s backup solution.Currently we are billing our customers per client and per used backup disk space. It would be great if we could handle the billing the same way as before. We are now looking for the best way the get the used disk space per client. Ideally directly with a SQL query. In another thread someone recommended the QS_BackendStorage stored procedure. While this looks like a good solution, we are not sure how to interpret the values. In our understanding the column ‘Backend Size (GB)’ contains the actual used disk space on the media agents per client. So adding up all those values should be equal to the used disk space on the volume. In our testing system currently 14.3TB of the disk space is used (by just checking the disk usage on the media agent - we currently only have one), while the sum of all values in the column ‘Backend Size (GB)’ of the stored procedure is about 100TB.So maybe someone can explain how those
I have two sets of media agents, each handling completely seperate sets of backup data. Each set of data has the same storage requirements.I want to use a single S3 bucket but have two libraries/storage pools, so the DDBs stay with each seperate media agent set.So, can the same S3 bucket be referenced by multiple Commvault libraries? As my bucket is object locked I’d like to find out more before I make any connections to it.Thanks.
