Hi, We have an issue with the aging of our O365 backups. We have set the retention on the primary at 14 days/0 cycles but we can see data from 2022 residing on it.There are not Jobs waiting to be copied on the secondary. The Forecast report shows for reason for not aging “DataAging is disabled for special clients”.Data aging is activated at every level I have looked (Client properties, Primary policy copy properties).Worm storage lock unchecked on the GDDB as well as Compliance Lock.Compliance lock is not checked on primary copy.I’d like to know how I can handle the retention on my primary storage.Thx for your help.
We’re considering changing our storage retention policy from 1 year to something less than that and we’d like to know how much storage we’d reclaim by making this change *before* making this change (to see if its even worth it). Is there a report that could tell us this? Or how could we best gauge the effects on our back-end storage of changing our storage retention policy from one year to, say, six months?
Hi All, One of the customer configured the NAS Backup with NetApp SVM and enabled CIFS and NFS protocol under the same NAS client. https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/add_nas_file_server.html He enabled the snap backup at Instance level on each protocol (CIFS/NFS). But whenever he creates user-defined sub-client under the specified protocol, the snap-backup was not enabled by default and need to enable by manually. Would like to understand that whether it is a behavior by design or anything I need to do extra to automate it?
Does anyone know how to retire an Index/Analysis Server that contains roles? I can get all of the roles to remove except the last one. I also just attempt to right-click on the Index Server entity and choose Delete, but it says that it is associated to DC Plans [ODA_DCPLAN_8534] and to remove the connection and try again. We only have 2 plans - Threat Analysis and FSO. There is no association or relationship I can find in the Command Center to either plan let alone any other backup plans. All I want to do is delete the Index Server I created - there isn’t any data on it. It had another node on it at one time, but I also removed that from the configuration hoping to tear it down one piece at a time. Please help! Very frustrating. We are running Windows Server 2022 on the CS and FSO/Threat Analysis on the 2 Index Servers. These servers are VMs.
Hi Community,We have Data Domains as our primary storage for Commvault and tape for long term retention. We are looking to replace the tape libraries within the next year with DD Cloud Tier. With DDBoost now fully supported as access and client libraries does anyone know if and when DD Cloud Tier may be integrated and supported.
What’s the command to get the gluster version ?For the OS we run uname -r which gives us the following out put.3.10.0-1160.108.1.el7.x86_64Looking for the same detailed output in a gluster version command. We should be running version “6.0-63.el7rhgs.x86_64” and would like to verify that we are. Thankshttps://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/hyperscale_1_5_platform_version_1_2403.html
Hi Everyone, We Currently have Commvault commserv (All VMware Environment) targeted to HyperScale appliances. However, HyperScale 1300 is EOL/EOS. We have a spare HP MSA 2050 SAN storage available and require your advise before we configure it as a library. As HP MSA being an entry level storage, is it recommended to be used as target library even though disk speed are 7k for HyperScale and HP MSA? Would there be performance issues as storage needs to mounted to additional server server to be used over 10 gig network as VMware does not have SFPs? Would configuring backups on HP-MSA give us same dedeuplcation ratio as that of HyperScale appliances ?
The process of setting retention to half what is actually required, combined with the periodic sealing of the DDB seems clunky, and results in significantly higher storage usage - can we expect any improvements to that process?Where an existing block is referenced during an operation, could it be more efficient to just extend the Object Lock retention for the associated S3 Object?
I have created a disk library in our dev environment which is using it’s own separate volume. it will be used for ddb backups. If I want to increase the capacity do I have to add a new volume or can I just resize the underlying volume in linux ?
DearI need to carry out a survey of the growth of data volume in my backup environment, a comparison of growth over the last few years.Would anyone have a step-by-step guide on how to generate this report in Commvault? This information will be necessary to justify the calculation of data growth projections for the coming years. Thanks in advance for your help.
we previously use cqcclassic.commvault.com/Dedupe/Design tool. Now it cannot find it. if anyone have an idea?
There is a new physical tape library configured in this environment (HPE MSL G3 2024) with 2 tape HPE Ultrium 8-SCSI FC drives. The tape library was added in Commvault and few auxiliary copy jobs performed:1. With the hardware compression disabled in Commvault storage policy copy data path configuration. The size of data on the first tapes was 10 TB.2. With the hardware compression enabledin Commvault storage policy copy data path configuration. The size of data on each tapes was 20-21 TB.The backup data type is VMware backups. Our question is why Commvault is not placing more than 30 TB on each tape, considering they are LTO8 and hardware compression is enabled? This customer has another Commvault environment , with similar backup devices and same settings, they are able to accommodate between 30 -40 TB.
Hi Good Day!I’m planning to deploy new HSX servers. I have a question about the DNS record requirement. Pls help.Environment detail:Bond1VLAN1.bond1 (CS-Registration) -→ This will be used for connecting to Commserve and VMware backup, DNS, and MGMT.VLAN2.bond1 (Data Protection)-→ This will be used to backup Agent-based backup. Bond2 -→ This is for the Storage Pool. DNS record not required.DNS record planning to create for the bond1 interfaces.VLAN1.bond1: hsxcsreg01.smaple.com , hsxcsreg02.smaple.com, hsxcsreg03.smaple.comVLAN2.bond1: hsxdp01.sample.com, hsxdp02.sample.com & hsxdp03.sample.com ? Do I need to create a DNS record for the Agent-based backup sub-interface? In this context, I doubt I can have a DNS entry for a sub-interface other than the CS registration. Please help.
Ok, let’s get straight into the topic. The disk containing the Media Agent Index has been accidentially removed. What are the possibilities to recover the lost Index on this specific Media Agent? Thanks for any help. RegardsCSS
I’ve run into a problem trying to mount a 54.4TB FC LUN presented to a Linux MediaAgent. A single partition was created using the ‘parted’ utility, and then an XFS file system with a block size of 64k was created using the ‘mkfs.xfs’ command. I'm receiving the following message when trying the mounting xfs filesystem.mount: /mnt/cvstorage: mount (2) system call failed: Function not implementedAny help would be appreciated.
Good Morning,We need to restore data from S3 which is secondary copy with a retention of 90 days. Last backup was a year ago, so retention period is expired.Obviously, the jobs have been expired but if we check content on S3 we can see the data is still on it.However, if we check content from S3 library on CommCell the data on media is not available. Is it possible to restore this backups by anyway? Thx in advanced and Regards.
Where can we find the correct number of tape storage used, if its on our Commserv, Command Center, or Webconsole? Thanks!
I have a question from our storage administrator that I think I know the answer to but would like to confirm. Is there a way to backup data and have the original/source data deleted? We use Isilon for our storage and we would like to back up the data to a Primary target, but have the original data deleted afterward (I guess the Isilon doesn’t have a native tool to delete large amounts of data). The only option I know of would be to run a post-process script, but is there any other options that I am unaware of?Thanks!
Hi All,We are configuring GFS disk to disk to tape (different tape media). Please find the below requirement.Requirement 1: first storage policy will configure daily Inc and weekly full for first disk keep 7 days Requirement 2: first disk daily Inc and weekly Full go to auxiliary copy of second disk keep 28 daysRequirement 3: second disk daily Inc auxiliary copy of daily tape media keep 28 daysRequirement 4: second disk weekly Full auxiliary copy of weekly tape media keep 28 daysRequirement 5: second disk Full (end of month) auxiliary copy of monthly tape media keep 12 monthsRequirement 6: second disk Full (end of year) auxiliary copy of yearly tape media keep 2 yearsRefer above, should I create as below?(Requirement 1) create Primary_Full storage policy with Primary_Inc Incremental storage policy first disk keep 7 days(Requirement 2) Primary_Inc storage policy create auxiliary copy select All Backup to second disk keep 28 days(Requirement 2) Primary_Full storage policy create auxiliar
HiGood dayMy backups were running before now, all of a sudden they started failing because of this error: Unable to communicate with remote machine {Linux media Agent} to start data pipe. Please check the following:1. Network connectivity exists between client and remote machineProduct servuces are running on remote machine. Firewall is setup properly between client and remote machine Error [Connection failed on oracle_dba with these errors: 1 Couldn/t complete tunnel connection to tape_linux)server on 192.168.1.112:8413: No route to hostAll these seem like network issues. I tried to add entries into the host files of all clients affected. It still keeps failing. This is the caseI want to backup oracle files and instances to tape, via a linux media agent. The backups ran some days ago, and all of a sudden they have failed with the errors i quoted up here. Someone should help me resolve this challenge. Thanks.
HiGood day.I have configured my Commvault backup to write jobs directly to tape (not auxiliary copy)However, I noticed some things the client is an oracle database. I installed the file system agent and oracle iDA I configured the file system agent to backup some contents in a path, and the Oracle iDA to backup instances and archives. However, the files were successfully backed up to the tape drive. The oracle instances failed. Error is in screenshot.I tried to click on the error code, it was blank. I also know that Commvault should be able to backup a storage policy to a tale, regardless of the workload type. Is there a way to resolve this issue? Its been on for days.
Our Media Agent needs replacing. The replacement is probably going to be a Dell PowerEdge R5xx or R7xx with dual CPU and 128GB RAM and the intention is to use M.2/NVMe for the OS/Commvault binaries and DDB/Indexes but I’d appreciate any guidance and best practise on the build and storage. We’re doing a lot of synthetic fulls with small nightly incremental backups and we aux about 70TB to LTO8 tape every week. The disk library we have right now is approx 50TB.Is there any best practise that would favour NAS/network storage for the disk library over filling the PowerEdge with large SAS disks? With local disk on Windows Server is there a preference between NTFS and ReFS and is there a best practise over mount path size as we’re currently using 4-5TB mount paths carved out as separate Windows volumes on a single underlying hardware RAID virtual disk.Given modern hardware performance can anyone see a definite reason to do any more than buy a single PowerEdge for this other than redundancy/avail
We are in the process of upgrading clients to Commvault 2024 for the added security benefits as well as the potential storage savings. In the change notes for Commvault 2024, the changes state for backups other than database backups, “each backup job will back up only the new and modified items and create a full recovery image. Therefore, running repeated full backup is not required.”I know that existing plans remain unchanged and follow the old format, so I imagine the change process is just associating existing entities to a new plan. This sounds a lot like a synthetic backup, so it sounds like it will create a new full backup to start a synthetic chain which might be storage intensive depending on the environment and their storage constraints.Am I understanding this correctly? And if so, would I also need to be conscious about updating the synthetic full backup schedules via the CommCell Console?

Hello,I made several plans with two backup destination (primary and secondary). On these backup destination, the retention periode is 3months, but when i look to restore data, i see that i can restore data from beyond 3 months. Why ?The Data aging is runing daily, so i don’t understand the problem. Also, some plans respect the retention period and other no.
