Hi,We get an error when backing up vm with more than 5 disks in OVirt. Error;Error Code: [91:271]Description: Unable to attach disks for virtual machine [<vm_name>] to the proxy. []Source: <proxy>, Process: vsbkpVM has 14 disks.I attached log file.Virtual machine’s disk type is virtio-scsi and proxy machine disk type is virtio-scsi too. Commvault v11.20.27oVirt 4.3.6Proxy server OS RHEL 7.7Virtual Machine OS RHEL 7.7 How can i solve this error? Any limitation here?

Hi,Is VMWare Live Recovery supported from a NetApp SnapMirror/Vault destination that has SnapLock enabled.That is, is it possible to point the Live Recovery source copy to a SnapMirror/Vault copy?I am assuming that it “should” be possible as the data is presented via the MA back to the ESX host, and am looking for confirmation of this.CheersJon 

Hi Guys!I have a Schedule Policy for Virtual Server backups, what containes two incremental backups during the day (4:00, 14:30) and a Synthetic Full backup at the evening (18:00). Before Synthetic Full, "Run Incremental Backup" configured in the policy.When the old V1 indexing VM backups was run, there were Incremental backups at 4:00, 14:30, 18:00 and Synthetic Full after the last Incremental. After V2 indexing VM subclient migration, the same Schedule Policy runs differently. There are the two configured Incremental and the Synthetic Full, but no Incremental before Synthetic Full. Why is it happens? Incremental can't run before Synthetic Full with V2 indexing as configured in the Schedule Policy?Thanks in advance.

If I add a “Premium SSD V2” disk to an existing Azure VM (or during creation of a new VM), backup fails with error message “Unable to create a virtual machine snapshot of [CL3]. [One or more errors occured]. Please check the virtual machine snapshot tree”.networkaccessAccessPolicy is “AllowAll”, publickNetworkAccess is “Enabled”. There is no problem with “Premimum SSD” disks.First I’d like to ask, if this type of disk is generally supported by Commvault backup. I can send a full log of the backup job.Commvault V2023E. Thank youJiri. 

As I understand the Intellisnap backup copy process: we have virtual proxywill mount the SS (storage snapshot) to ESX host (proxy ESX host) from the backup that had run will it register a temp vm  if the proxy vm resides on the same proxy esx host; it will use hot-add wherein it will attach the vmdk on the storage snapshot in step a and read the data via the guest OS and push it to MediaAgent on the appropirate guest vm network however if the proxy VM is on a diffrent esx host; it will use nbd to copy the data and send data to MediaAgent  My question is if say that proxy is engaged in backup copying more than 1 vms which are on different datastores and someone runs the same Intellisnap backup a. will the intellisnap backup fail as there is a proxy VM which has disks across 2 different datastores.   

Hello Everyone , In Azure We are taking daily incremental backups of Azure VM.Retention - 15 Days 1 CycleWe observed that Snapshots of all the VM are getting retained. When next job starts it deletes the snapshot and the latest snapshot is retained till the next backup.We are not using Intellisnap at all.Ideally as per process snapshot should get deleted after the backups:https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/31324_backup_process.html This is not happening resulting in increased cloud cost. Please advise.

Hello,I'm currently working on K8s application-consistent backups through cvtasks. MongoDB is not mentioned in the documentation or on GitHub at AppConsistency/examples.https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/application_consistent_backups_for_kubernetes_using_cvtasks.htmlIs this just a limitation of the CVK8SDiscoverDB.sh script and can a cvtask for a MongoDB be created manually using command, ScriptText or LocalScript or can a MongoDB only be protected app-consistent using a pre/post scripts?Thank you.

We are having Hyper-V cluster with 2 nodes. we have installed VSA on 2 nodes and configuring the VM backups. Can we and how to use the hyper-v cluster for configuration of the VM backups.

Hi, We have installed VSA on physical mediaagent for SAN based backup.We have provided the access node on advanced options of subclient.Backups completed with SAN transport mode. While performing full VM restore, in the access node list it does not show physical VSA(aka MediaAgents).It shows all other VSA in the environment. We have all prerequisites installed like mono packages etc. We are in 11.32.59 and physical MA are redhat 9.x machines.Please advise.

I have an HCI cluster 23h2 that I want to add for VM protection, but I'm unable to add the cluster in Commvault.The error message reads: 'Failed to install the File System Core Package. The credentials entered may not have permission to use WMI on the remote machine. Please check WMI configuration and user credentials.'Source: cv-hci, Process: DistributeSoftwareI verified credentials all is right. 

Hi All,Is it possible to configure a VMware Access Node (deployed using the Open Virtual Appliance (OVA) template supplied by Commvault) as a Kubernetes Access Node?Is it possible to use it alternatively as a VMware Access Node and as a Kubernetes Access Node?I note that OVA “Access Node and MediaAgent 2024E” provides Oracle Linux Server release 9.4: 5.15.0-208.159.3.el9uek.x86_64. And that system requirements for Kubernetes Access Node require Oracle Linux 8.6, but I imagine this is a minimum value required…Thanks in advance for any explanation!Regards,Luc

Hi there, we’ve taken over an environment we did not install, and the client’s Hyper-V servers all appear to have the media agent role installed, and appear under the list of media agents, with disk libraries having mount points prepended with “IP” in front of the drive path.  I’ve never seen this before - and we don’t use Hyper-V in our other environments.  My guess is that they deployed the media agent in error.  Can someone running Hyper-V perhaps confirm for me please?  Thanks, Ray

Hi. New to CV. I was under the impression that VM that have been retired would be deleted after their retention period.

We are restoring the Physical server to Azure using Virtualize me option. During the restoration we are getting below error message. Could someone please help me to fix the issue.  Error Code: [91:115] Description: Unable to attach disks to virtual machine   

i am trying to do a running merger of two  vcenter clients in commvault.the issue is that both a live right now, and the move of vms/datacenters will take a lot of time (another team is doing that)the vcenters are called Vcenter1 (old) and Vcenter2 (new)my initial plan was to simply recreate all the backupsets from the old vcenter including all the filters, settings etc. on the new vcenter, that way backup would catch newly moved entities “automatic”  but that does not seem to be possible since we filter the content of each backupsets/subclient by the “datacenter” attribute,  which requires that the new datacenter is browseable from the new vcenter. (which it wont be until migration starts for that particular datacenter. so i am struggling to find a way to stay ahead of the curve.is there any way to clone contents (backupsets/subclients of vcenter1 “1:1” into vcenter2 ?except for naming, the configuration of both follow the same pattern.i have been looking into the “clone_subclient_tem

Hi,We are looking at improving/automating our VM decommission process.At present, we have a dedicated VSA backup and Storage Policy that writes direct to tape media with 7 years retention on the backup copy.  This backup subclient runs on the weekend and targets a dedicated vCenter Resource Pool that is only for VMs scheduled to be decommissioned. As part of the decommission process, admins will move any VM that is to be retired into the Resource Pool and power it off ahead of the weekend backup to tape.We are now wondering if it is possible to also have this same backup job then delete the backed-up VM(s) from the vCenter/datastore so that an admin doesn’t have to manually do this the following Monday?Obviously, robustness and safety are paramount here, but just curious if anyone has achieved this and if so, how?Regards,Michael​​​​​​

Hi All, When reading documentation for Commvault CSI Volume Snapshot-Based Backups for the backup process :  Backup Process for Kubernetes (commvault.com)I can find that : …/…Backup process creates a temporary pod and mount the temporary Persistent Volume Claim to read the data.  I understand that the Persistent Volume Claim is mounted on the CV Pod (temp). But what is the data path for the backup? Is it a egress trafic from CV Pod(temp) to Access Node?  (egress : process of data sharing externally through a network’s outbound traffic from a pod). Could you please explain?If so, is is possible to use a dedicated backup network between the CV pod and the Access Node?Thanks in advance for any explanation!Best regards,Luc

Hi,We have a RHEV environment that resides in a DMZ network segment.VSA Proxy is deployed within this env.  Our Commserv and Media Agents can connect to the  RHEV manager and the proxy ( One-Way ).Should that be enough for taking baackups ? or should we create some network toplogy for the RHEV client and proxy ?  Thanks

Can we configure Hyper-V VM backups using scvmm instead of installing agent on Hyper-V node to take advantage of backups using VM tags.

Hi Team,We are using 11.32 version with CS/MA/VSA on same 1132.59.We have Redhat Openstack configured as Hypervisor.We maintain minimum 10-20% free space in storage for snapshot during backups.We observed there is one Instance with Volumes attached of size 10TB.it is strange that Backup job is looking for 20TB free space on the storage for taking snapshot.Is this requirement of Openstack or requirement of Commvault ? It does not make sense why it needs twice the size of Volumes for snapshots.Evidence is attached. Can this be check with Commvault development team ? I can raise a case if that is needed.But support asks logs and other stuff which takes long time.I just need confirmation from CV if this is normal?  

Hyperv Backups failed      Failure Reason: Virtual machine (abc) disks are not accessible. Ensure that the access node (VSA proxy) can read the source VM disks.  we are added Groups as access nodes on properties of Hyperv and those 2 groups are belongs to 2 clusters in hyperv .when ever schedule backup got triggered it will pickup wrong VSA as a Backup agent and its failling with subjected error. if i add manually those VSA proxies  in subclient level properties as a access nodes then backups are completing and working fine . how to eliminate this wrong allocation of VSA while backup , i hope commvault should figureout the correct host and VSA allocation , if not correct me  and please advice how we can overcome and i would like to use group level association of VSA on node on properties tab instead of subclient level. Thanks in Advance!!

Hi All,We have a VM backup with (VMware) VSA Snap. The same job was copied to secondary which was in Azure.Our VSA was later removed as there is no dependency on it.We are trying to restore few Guest Files from the VM backup from the secondary copy with Azure Media Agent and Library, but the restore is failing saying that the Old VSA was unable to communicate.Not sure why it is asking this way, even we are browsing it from Cloud MA which is having VSA installed on it.Our VM was a Windows Server, Old VSA is Windows and new MA/VSA is Linux.Any suggestions or idea, why it is taking it even we are giving other MA/VSA? Thanks in Advance.. Warm Regards,Sravan Kondeti
