We have ran into this more than once with on-prem 11.36 whereby either a synth or full runs for an org. While the jobs exist prior to the full, the objects cannot be seen, downloaded, or restored. So the question is - does the cloud version work differently? Then - if not, is it a limitation in Sf or “the SaaS world in general?”?If fulls are unavoidable but you lose every aspect of jobs prior, then what? I see nothing in the best practices about this.thanks
After setting up livesync for the CS’s, someone inadvertently set a plan for the “empty” default SC which is auto created when that new primary SQL client is created. Since the plan cannot be deselected from the default SC nor can the schedule be disabled obviously, the thing fails every day and if we disable the activity on it that also is flagged for various checks, so, it’s rather annoying. How can we forceably detach a plan from it and keep it silent with no SP assigned to it like it should be?thanks
Hi together,In Veeam, there is a feature called "Secure Backup" which is a service for DRP audits (backups recoverability is tested). Does anyone know this feature and can tell me if there is a similar function in CommVault?I have not found one yet (Version 11.24.94).thanks in advance for your answers and best regards Pascal
Hi All, Was thinking of asking question here - maybe faster response and fresh heads will do the trick :)Problem:Previously on SP16 we had SNMP enabler installed, working for quite some time and then suddenly when you are trying to configure alert with SNMP option - it is greyed out!Only idea to fix that was to reinstall it..:Incident 200415-375Now we are again facing the same issue where SNMP is greyed out again - without any notification why - and this time I would like to solve this without re installing the software for it.Commcell version: 11.20.40SNMP enabler is installed: Any ideas where I could look for clues? Registries? Oh and by the way: currently set up alerts are sending snmp traps..so..?New case number: Incident 210428-398

Hello, TeamWe have Unity Storage With Multiple LUNs, acting as mount paths attached to 6 Media agents with about 2.6TB datasize in total. There are multiple disks failure on the Unity storage end and we need to move the active data into another Newly purchased storage. The plan is to have all mount pats or data written to that storage with their dependencies. The plan is to use commvault for this migration and here are my queries below:Should we use the Move Mount Path option? if yes, can restore happen while the mount paths are being moved? Each LUN is about 10-20TB each and we have multiple of them. Should we use the Storage policy create new copy or auxillary copy to move the data and promote the destination storage to primary. Also, considering data size, how could it take the data to complete migration? When the migration is completed. We would love to see that the data has left the Unity storage. The source storage and destination storage are like 50KM apart on an uncapped network
Hi Team,We have had LiveSync in operation for some time, but have only been testing it with TEST failovers, not production. We are now ready to move to a full, PRODUCTION failover, but to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible, I thought i would run this past the community.Apart from the Commvault docco that we will be following:-https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/planned_failovers.htmlIs there anything else that we need to be aware of?We are on SP36.We would be looking to leave the failover in place for a few hours, so we are hoping this process is now mature enough to not cause us problems. But if you had problems with it, it would be good to hear what happened. Thanks
Hi,according to BOL Deduplication Building Block Guide,a Media Agent can host up to two (2) DDBs (from on LUNs of different RaidGroup) ALL DDBs of all Storage Pools on a Media Agent should share the same volume / paths (e.g. D:\DDB)My question is now, does this require to create a streched / expanded Volume accross multiple (2) LUNs / Disks ?otherwise I don’t get, how one single directory or volume can be used to place the data to mutiple LUNsand should this be a striped or a concatinated volume layout ?In the past I used D:\DDB and E:\DDB as paths (different volumes on different LUNs).This doesn’t seem to be best practice anymore, if I understand the BOL entry correct.I could understand, if this restriction is valid for all (3 horizontal scaling) DDBs belonging to the same Pool. But the article states, that all pools should use the same volume or path.rgdsKlaus
In 11.32 I see commvault has API collection, from where we can fork it. Where can I find Commvault REST API collection link to import in Postman for 11.36? I did not understand deprecation notice. If I have to import the collection to postman how I can do it in new versions? ReplacementThe Postman support feature is no longer available to visualize and interact with the latest Commvault RESTful APIs. As an alternative, the Commvault API website lists the Commvault APIs that you can interact with.https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/expert/deprecation_notice_for_postman_support.html
Hi Team, We have a MySQL InnoDB Cluster consisting of three nodes. I'm using Commvault 11.36.69.Is MySQL InnoDB Cluster supported? I couldn't find any documentation. Do I need to configure the InnoDB cluster especially?
Hello,In order to recover space, some days ago I deleted all jobs from one Storage Policy Copy, but I don’t see the data has been deleted from the local disk library, and when I check the forecast report there are no pending deletions.I have run a DDB Space reclaim job with Clean Orphan Data selected, I have waited a day before rechecking again, but there are no changes.Any ideas on how I can reclaim and recover this space?(Or if it is a matter of time, how long should I wait? Could I check the delection process status?) Thanks in advance.
I have downloaded the required driver files using the command .\CVInstallGCPDrivers.ps1 "C:\CVDrivers" download. When we are trying to install the drivers, we are facing following issue. And drivers files are getting removed automatically from the folder once we run the command
Hi Teams, Something's confusing me, and I'd like to clarify. I see that encryption is enabled in the subclient configurations as "Network and Media (Agent Side). The following explanation explains this: When selected, for backup operations, data is encrypted before transmission and stored encrypted on the media. During restore operations, data is decrypted by the client.https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/advanced_subclient_properties_encryption.htmlEncryption can also be enabled/disabled at the storage pool level. If I don't enable encryption at the storage pool level, won't Commvault still be considered to have encrypted the data as it's written? What's the difference between these two?Is data encrypted on the fly, and is the line between the Media Agent and the client secure?
Hi,I have a question regarding move mount path. The one and only possible MA is Linux.Source is a nfs share which supports sparse files. Target is a CIFS share which does NOT support sparse files.“move mount path” is a tool in Commvault. What happens with the files if using move mount path?wikipedia wrote:Sparse files can cause problems when copying: When copying to another file system that does not support sparse files, the target file cannot be created in compact form. Therefore, the undefined areas of the source file are written as null characters in the target file. This results in a significantly larger target file. The target file system must have sufficient capacity. In addition, both the copy or backup program and the target operating system must support sparse files and be able to recognize them as such. How does Commvault handle these files between the different file locations? SW is not too old 11.32 or 11.36Thanks in advanceJoerg
V11 SP36 I have this situation where we take a VSA backup of VmWare servers, the deletion of the snapshot can take sometime for two or three servers and causes a warning, when in reality the backup is fine The Delete Snapshot can take one or two hours, as a consequece the Commvault seems to register the ‘Delete Snapshot Duration’ as 30 minutes and a few seconds In this case the snapshot was deleted after 55 minutesIs there any setting or something else, that could override the warning message? Thanks Mark
Hello Commvault Community! In one environment, we noticed that strange entries appeared in the logs regarding block pruning as part of deduplication: SIDBPrune.log - from August 5, 202511512 5468 08/05 03:00:45 ### 1-3 OpenIdx:3330 Cannot lock chunk [2499152].11512 5468 08/05 03:00:45 ### 1-3 PruneChunk:1391 Cannot get child information. Hi guys,We are currently on the proccess of configuring WORM S3 Object Locking + Commvault 11.36 + Deduplication. The requirements is to enable WORM on the following JOBS:4 weekly Fulls24 monthy Fulls5 Yearly FullsThe thing is that we are not able (we dont know if we are doing something wrong) on applying Extended Retentions on Deduplicated S3 Object Lock Storage pools. (If we disable deduplication is posible to configure Extended Retentions). That means we have to have 3 different buckets 1 for each retention. If we sum the periodically sealing of DDB (yearly or less..) that means HUGE space needed with this configuration. Do you know if it’s possible to apply extended retention on deduplicated S3 object Lock configured Storage Pools? Thanks!!
Hello together,I was moving one of our customers from NAKIVO Backup (https://www.nakivo.com/) to Commvault Backup. It worked … but. On NAKIVO the customer used immutable snapshots. Commvault Intellisnap seems to use writeable snapshots and I did not find a way to change this behaviour. Did I miss something or is this not supported? Here you see the snapshots on the Alletra … there is a lock symbol for the immutable snapshots and this is missig when Commvault is starting the Intellisnap backups. Regards.Michael
Hi folks,We want to inform our users that software version 11.32 requires Microsoft .NET 6.0, which reached its End of Support (EOS) on November 12, 2024.📢 Introducing Version 11.32.73 (or higher)This latest update eliminates the reliance on the now-outdated .NET 6.0 and introduces support for the more secure and modern .NET 8 long term support release. Support for this version of .NET expires in November 2026.We strongly recommend that all users of version 11.32 upgrade to 11.32.73 or higher to ensure the best experience and maintain a secure environment. You can download a copy of maintenance release 11.32.73 or higher directly from the support portal, or the store site.
Setup: I have primary and secondary storage locations. Data gets copied from primary to secondary with Aux copies. I have 3 Aux copies that are not tied to global deduplication DDB’s and are instead “using their own DDB” for the Aux copy to the secondary). I’m Looking to add more mount points to my media agents (to add more storage capacity) and I ran across this (copilot answer to “To determine whether a library is part of a Network Storage Pool in Commvault”):A Network Storage Pool is a logical construct that combines: A Disk Library. One or more MediaAgents. A Global Deduplication Policy. When configured, it enables shared access to mount paths across MediaAgents using DataServer-IP transportMy question is: If these Storage policies Aux copy are not tied to a global DDB, then its not part of a Storage pool (this appears to be the case when looking at Storage resources → storage pools as I can see only the Global DDB’s in the pools)? and if so if I add new mount paths to add stor
I see that the api.commvault.com has not been updated with information about SP40.Latest version to be selected is SP38Does this mean that api-documentation for 11.38 is the one to use for 11.40, or has it just not been published yet?Planning an upgrade to 11.40 and wants to make sure if there is any changes to the API’s I’m currently using, to ensure a smooth transition.
Hello, I need to verify if commvault support auxiliary copy from cloud storages (HCP) to Tapes ? Couldn’t find any official document regarding this.
Hello everyone,We have had a problem with Exchange Backup since today because of the EWS error (see image below). We have already re-entered the credentials for the service account, but unfortunately that didn't help. Does anyone have a useful tip on what to do in this case? We have re-entered the credentials for the service-account at Commvault Exchange Client (see below)
Hi Team, After upgrading from 11.36.32 to 55 and then 68, MSSQL Job Type is now empty in Job Controller. Will it no longer appear? It was actually useful in some cases. Is there any logical reason to hide this ?
Hi. I’ve created a API script to backup a specific VM. I want to create an alert to send a email after the jobs completes. I used, Add Alert->Job management(data protection), selected everything for Agent type. also Want to just send the alert when the API user is the one starting the job (used token for that).I’ve also selected “Send individual notification for each backed up VM”Anyway, it’s not working.
