Hello,Could you please suggest storage best practice configuration for Deduplication storage pool that will use 256KB deduplication factor. How should be configured disk library:1) Strip size to use for underlying RAID Volume? 64KB 128KB or 256KB? (unable to find any recommendations from Commvault)2) NTFS block size? In general there is recommendation to use 64KB. Is it still the same for 256KB deduplication factor storage pools?3) By default, the system uses 4 GB as the chunk size and 64 KB as the block size to read/write data from disk libraries. Should i change this if I use 256KB deduplication factor? Should I increase read/write block size?Thank you in advance!
The doc state: Use a volume dedicated to the index cache directory formatted with a block allocation size of 32K.(Best Practices (Indexing Version 2) Is this the LogicalSectorSize [Bytes Per Sector] or PhysicalSectorSize [Bytes Per Physical Sector] in a Windows server NTFS volume or is REFS type to be prefered ?
We are currently switching to deduplicated storage as part of our migration to plans and therefore looked into recommended settings for everything to work smoothly and the most space efficient.I already noticed our Commcell had the horizontal scaling option disabled as we upgraded from older versions which resulted in the old default behaviour.Upon enabling I can now see two DDBs for the two data types we currently backup to this pool: Files and Databases. From previous experimenting we noticed improved deduplication savings when using no compression for file backups. For databases it seems the other way around as also suggested in the documentation. This got me wondering:Is compression with deduplication also recommended for File or VSA backups? If we disable compression on the DDB (e.g. Files), will the setting persist when the DDB is sealed? (because we use WORM/S3 OL)
All,I have the Threat Indicator alert enabled on my Commserve.I have a VSA backup that runs nightly and every evening it picks the same folder and flags it in Monitoring → Threat indicators in the Command Centre and it emails this alert to all. The particular folder it mentions every night runs some DBA scripts that are scheduled. Is there anyway to remove this files ie E;\DBA_Scrits or this VM from the Threat Indicator alert ?There is nowhere to edit on the Alert in the CommServe, I found the workflow below and ran it but still got an alert the following morning.

I’m attempting to restore folders and files from a Commvault file system backup to a test system. All the files and folders *appear* to restore properly but when the application (SQL Server in this case) attempts to access the files, I get:FCB::Open failed: Could not open file <path_and_file_name.ext> for file number 1. OS error: 5(Access is denied.).Error: 5120, Severity: 16, State: 101.When I compare the restored folder to the source server, I see the folder permissions are different. Is there an option to have Commvault restore the proper folder permissions while it’s running the restore?Nay help appreciated.Ken
Hello,is there a way to configure the format of a PDF report created in CommandCenter/Webconsole? I know there is an additional setting for reports greated in Java GUI, but this is not working in CommandCenter. Thanks and regardsThomas
Hi all, We have a project to apply CIS Benchmark Level 1 settings to our Windows servers, and that includes our CV environment. I’m looking for feedback on the process. Good, bad, ugly, etc. Thanks G
Hello Guys!!I’m looking to create a workflow to auto submit the failed jobs post performing the basic prechecks like ping the client, check connectivity, CommVault services. Can anyone guide me it’s my first step towards making any workflow.
We have SSL error on Command center and Web Console. How to generate SSL certificate and apply it.
Looking for advice on what model would suit a Greenfield deployment of Commvault to support a small < 20 TB deployment per site at 2 sites. Requirements are pretty simple! Back up some VM’s, Postgres databases, Active Directory with a mix of Windows and Linux OS. We prefer a Windows Commserve so I’m guessing a FREL is in the mix? Must have cross site replication! So.. likely that would equate to 40 TB per site storage? Management are keen on a self-contained appliance(s) solution with integrated storage or onboard storage is preferred BUT two small SANS are doable but not ideal. Unless I’m wrong two Hyperscale X appliances would NOT integrate to allow cross site replication? What alternatives do we have? We would lean towards a server with onboard storage or DAS in preference to a SAN. We don’t need full redundancy per site just resiliency of backups with cross site copies. What can you suggest? We currently maintain a single Commserve, multi site system with a SAN, Media Agents and
Title says it all. This client is in my left sidebar of the Java Console, containing an Agent called “BigDataApps”. The install date is in April 2018, which is when we set up Commvault in our environment - I was not present that for, and none of my team knows what it is either. Is it some default sub-component of Commvault? I looked in the Documentation Search and besides references to REST API, I can’t find anything definitive.
Hi, I would like to know if there is a specific procedure for the removal of the Failover package on linux Commservers? Can I just disable the livesync feature and remove the package or are they some additional steps?Thx in advance
Hi,I have a problem in exporting emails to CAB files. The job isn't starting and display an error message. Note: export emails to PST file are working fine.
I'm testing Exchange online email restore using the "Received Time" filtering option. I've set a received time of (for example) of 2019 - 2020 but I'm seeing email from as far back as 2000. has anyone else used this filtering options and what were your results. In full disclosure, I did also select the option to show deleted items but that SHOULDN'T affect the results in my window.
Hello, we are trying to conduct an Non-RAC oracle duplicate operation and are having trouble getting the destination instance to a state other than unknown. The instance is started in NOMOUNT mode. For the connection string, we are using the sys account which has sysdba priveleges. For the Oracle User, we are using oracle. We have password file on the server, associated with the database and that the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE is set to Exclusive. When doing a script preview, this error is listed:Failed with Oracle DB/RMAN error [ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connectionsRMAN-03002: failure of allocate command at 06/02/2025 11:25:32RMAN-06171: not connected to target databaseI am not the Oracle DBA, so what could I ask them to check for the connection issue?Does the oracle user need something specific? How is the script connecting as sysdba without explicitly declaring in the connection string options?
Hello,Commvault 11.28.115We have Private Metrics Reporting server installed on separated VM. The VM has Windows Server 2016 and SQL 2016. We need to migrate to newer VMware environment, so I assumed it’s good chance to do software refresh. So I deployed new VM with Windows Server 2022 and my plan was to install Commvault with Metrics Reporting and import DBs from old server and then switch to new server.First problem was I was unable to import DB because there was some problem with DB upgrade. So I decided to create new DB. But the problem is the webconsole isn’t working. Site is loading and tomcat service after some time stops, or, after restarting IIS, the “Please wait, server are starting...” site appears and that’s it.I looked into webserver logs and there is 26. error locating server/instance like this:WebServer:3128 3 10/30 20:59:47 ### ### dmConf::GetMongoConnectionString - Exception Message [A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connect

We want to use encryption for our backup to ensure that our backup data is secure, and when we restore the backup, the decryption key must be required.
Hello Community,I have 2 different hyperscale enviroments, and i would like to decomiss the old one and shutdown the servers. I have a storage pool and a storage policy with some large time retained jobs. And almost 95% of the library is freeI want to copy or migrate this data to the other hyperscale with his own storage pool and policiesI’m searchin through documentation and aux policies but i’m not sure is what i need if there would be some posts referring this topic, please could you forward me? Hi, i believe that there is away to copy or make a shadow of a specific VM from comser to another one like active and passive, but unfortunately i don’t know how to perform that task.
Are there any workaround to migrate from VMware to OLVM? CV can migrate from VMware to Oracle VM/OpenStack and migrate from Oracle VM to Red Hat Virtualization (OLVM). Thank you.
Since the Job API does not return the admin jobs, looking for anyone who might know which sql table contains the admin jobs, or aux copies/dr copies, data aging jobs Thanks for any suggestion.
I cannot login to cloud.commvault.com it is telling me invalid username or password
Hi all, I’ve been starting to look at Data Insights, and Sensitive Data Governance and went to create a test project to try it out and got the following error:Error creating EDiscoveryUser.Exception:User password doesn't follow minimum complexity requirementsIs that complexity requirement coming from CV itself? Is it looking at our domain requirements? Is this user local to CV or a domain user?Is it possible to assign a user object?Just looking to find out more about what it’s doing at this stage, thanks.G
