i am trying to do a running merger of two vcenter clients in commvault.the issue is that both a live right now, and the move of vms/datacenters will take a lot of time (another team is doing that)the vcenters are called Vcenter1 (old) and Vcenter2 (new)my initial plan was to simply recreate all the backupsets from the old vcenter including all the filters, settings etc. on the new vcenter, that way backup would catch newly moved entities “automatic” but that does not seem to be possible since we filter the content of each backupsets/subclient by the “datacenter” attribute, which requires that the new datacenter is browseable from the new vcenter. (which it wont be until migration starts for that particular datacenter. so i am struggling to find a way to stay ahead of the curve.is there any way to clone contents (backupsets/subclients of vcenter1 “1:1” into vcenter2 ?except for naming, the configuration of both follow the same pattern.i have been looking into the “clone_subclient_tem
Hi,we are currently restoring a few mailboxes from our users. Most of Messages are getting restored and is working fine, but we get a few failed/skipped Messages. The normal Report in the Commcell Console doesn’t list them either, (if we select “Failed Items”) and in the Command Center Report we couldn’t find any option as well.Is there any special Report that will give us more details? Even the CVMailRestore.log doesn’t tell us, that these failed/skipped messages are? kind regardsJoerg
We are planning to change retention to one of the active plan. Currently "Backed up version retention" is set to infinite. We would like to change it to 365 days. Will it have any impact on running backup jobs ?
Hi,We disabled the secondary copy but few jobs are showing in “To Be Copied” and “Partially Copied” status in secondary copy but we planning to erase the data in secondary. My Question is: If I erase the data in secondary dependent copies will be going to erase in primary copy or only data will erase in secondary copy itself?
Hi all,I am trying to do an Application aware backup of a virtual machine with MS SQL but I can’t. Application aware backup is skipped, but VM backup completed successfully.Any idea? Thanks!Matias
Hi All,Is it possible to configure different subclients from the same physical client and assign these subclients to different tenant (company)? If so, what configuration should be set up?Thank you!Regards,Luc
Hello,We have a PG instance that failed to backup for a day due to an issue with our archive script. We fixed the script, and CV ran and immediately picked up all the logs. However, in the GUI, it’s still showing a gap in recovery; from the time the archiver originally failed, until the time it picked them up.I haven’t been able to test a restore to a time during the gap yet (I hope to today), but I was able to click a missing recovery point and the API scripts accepts the time I chose. Is this a bug in the GUI or something else? Thanks!
Hi,We are looking at improving/automating our VM decommission process. At present, we have a dedicated VSA backup and Storage Policy that writes direct to tape media with 7 years retention on the backup copy. This backup subclient runs on the weekend and targets a dedicated vCenter Resource Pool that is only for VMs scheduled to be decommissioned. As part of the decommission process, admins will move any VM that is to be retired into the Resource Pool and power it off ahead of the weekend backup to tape.We are now wondering if it is possible to also have this same backup job then delete the backed-up VM(s) from the vCenter/datastore so that an admin doesn’t have to manually do this the following Monday?Obviously, robustness and safety are paramount here, but just curious if anyone has achieved this and if so, how?Regards,Michael
Hi Community,Restore pending with error Failed to stop the Tenant database [P01} please stio database manually and resume job. but when stop the database and resume the job, Job still pending Thanks
Just creating and testing The Virtual LabEverything works fine except deploying the OVA to have a proxy runningThe OVA is not deploying and when I make it an OVF the same problemSo the question is : I can see it is a CENTOS server, is there runinng the rdp gateway solution on itThen I can build my own proxy and have access to the restored server from an external network has anyone some details over this OVA template, about how to deploy it OR how this proxy is build, so I can build it my selfThanks and Regards Gerard
Hi,Is it safe to run space reclamation with clean orphan data option checked when using cloud library and s3 buckets shared by multiple pools/DDB’s from different grids? Or will it clean the data from the other pools as there are no references to that data in the DDB being cleaned? Thanks
Hi Team,We have configured Oracle backup in Metallic cloud, there are two sub clients, one is default and another one archive log sub client.Currently the log backup is running every 10mins but not able to see the schedule configuration. Please advise how to check the schedule option in metallic.
We configured default software encryption settings at global level, how can I check my data is encrypted or not & which algorithm & key length it is using? Which is the recommended algorithm from Commvault?
I’ve encountered an interesting issue and I’m hoping someone might have a creative solution.A customer of mine is using Redgate software to clone SQL databases. These cloned databases are mounted as virtual disks on the server, appearing as disks in Windows Disk Manager, but not as VM disks. When performing file system and application-consistent snapshots, they fail on the SQL writer due to the virtual disks created by the SQL clones. The same issue occurs when attempting to quiesce the filesystem from VMware. This could potentially be resolved by using the database agent and running crash-consistent snapshots, but I’d prefer to continue running only VM backups of this server, if possible. Is there a way to exclude these cloned databases from the VSS snapshot, either on the Commvault, SQL, or VMware side, since these databases don’t need to be backed up?Any suggestions?
Hello,SUSE is supported on x86, x64, PowerPC platforms but not on IBM mainframe. Is there a workaround to backup/restore SUSE partitioned on z/OS mainframe? even with less functionalityThanks,Panos
Hi all,A few days ago, we were asked to deconfigure the backups of an Exchange 2010 DAG database. Additionally, we deleted all content from the primary backup, as we were told it wouldn’t be necessary to retain that data any longer.Today, the team has been asked to restore the data we deleted a few days ago (Murphy’s Law, you know). The thing is, since we deleted all content from the primary copy, we only have the data on some LTO7 tapes that haven’t been rewritten or formatted. Is there anything we can do to try to retrieve and restore that data from the LTO tapes? Thanks!
Is anyone from Commvault able to comment on whether or not there is an Exchange Mailbox Backup Agent on the roadmap?
Hi,I’m trying to migrate from Schedule Policies and Storage Policies to Plans. On Schedule Policies it has been possible to request an incremental backup before or after a Synfull backup within the same schedule. Is something alike also available for Plans ?rgdsKlaus
Hi,New here and wanted to ask a question and appreciate any answers! We have a PowerStore client backing up a 35 subclients. We have about ½ of them running for several days, two in particular are close to 10 days run time. We just impleneted backing up these fileshares in PowerStore so I am sure there are somw tweaks we can make. The start times for the fileshares to start backing up are staggered. Some of the larger subclients have a very low throughput at 0.08 GB/hr while others 3000 GB/hr.Any help at all would be awesome. Thanks
How does the Software Remote Installation process works. What technology is used, what services or ports needs to be allowed on client.
Hello Team, I planned to perfom a hardware refresh of a media agent using this procedurehttps://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/performing_mediaagent_recovery.htmlThe media agent has lun attached provided by Netapp Storage (mount path)I'm confident because I've already done it, but this MA has a tape library attached. I am checking if it is a DAS or FC(zoning) do you have any tips ? Thanks !
Hi All, When reading documentation for Commvault CSI Volume Snapshot-Based Backups for the backup process : Backup Process for Kubernetes (commvault.com)I can find that : …/…Backup process creates a temporary pod and mount the temporary Persistent Volume Claim to read the data. I understand that the Persistent Volume Claim is mounted on the CV Pod (temp). But what is the data path for the backup? Is it a egress trafic from CV Pod(temp) to Access Node? (egress : process of data sharing externally through a network’s outbound traffic from a pod). Could you please explain? If so, is is possible to use a dedicated backup network between the CV pod and the Access Node? Thanks in advance for any explanation!Best regards,Luc
In RHEL 7 and 8 versions, the system state backup failed with this message during 1-touch full backup and incremental backup.Message: System State Backup Failed: [Error: The following utility is missing from the system [killall]. Install the corresponding rpms/dpkg before running a new incremental one-touch backup] I desperately need your help
Hi Commvault experts,I would like to discuss following situation. We need to move the mount paths of the disk library from the current Media Agent to a new one. The mount paths are attached to the Media Agent and appear as local disks; however, they are actually presented/mapped from the storage array as local disks/paths. My question is: how do we move these mount paths to the new Media Agent, when no physical data move is required? It’s simply a matter of re-presenting these mount points to the new Media Agent from Commvault's point of view.Your explanation will be much appreciated!
Hi Commvault experts,I have one more question regarding the Media Agent migration, specifically about the Index Cache. Is it absolutely necessary to move the Index Cache? In some resources, I've read that it might be possible to skip this step. Is that correct? Can the Index Cache be rebuilt automatically during new backup jobs? Also, is the actual process of moving the Index Cache directory simply a copy-paste operation in the operating system?Once the Media Agent migration is complete, I can close all related threads and provide detailed comments.
