Hi Vaulters, Hope everyone is doing well.We have a new commvault platform that will be installed, and we’ve been asked by our storage team what are the LUNs size that are needed for backed up data. In order for them to create and map them to our MediaAgents. So, it’s a sizing question. Are there any recommendations per Commvault or utility that can be used to help us decide what’s the best storage configuration will fit our needs ? Knowing that our platform will back up multiple workloads : VMs, FileSystems, DBs (SAP HANA), Mailboxes (Exchange), Active Directory ...etc. Any recommendation from you guys would be much appreciated.RegardS.

We have client Machine with OS Windows 10, OS is configured on RAID 1 with two disks, now We are trying to do Bare Metal Recovery of system, is it possible to dp BMR on RAID configured machines.

Hello Team i want to know if this is a normal process when i use Intellisnap restore with NetApp a new IGROUP created by Commvault and not getting deleted after the restore was completed this is a normal behavior ?  there is an option to automatically delete the netapp igroup once the restore was completed? 

Hi Team,So I’ve been limping along with a dirty-flag on the drive hosting my DDB.This actually occurred due to a CrowdStrike BSOD a few weeks back, but recovering data was more important than clearing the CHKDSK.However, we obviously cannot limp along forever.I am assuming the worst here, and that when we finally allow CHKDSK to repair the volume it will corrupt my DDB.  It usually does, and I have seen this before.So I suppose the question is, do I just roll with it, or is there something else I can do to minimize the impact of a potential DDB Recovery? Thanks

When excluding Dynamics 365 content from backup, it needs to be assigned to a Dynamics 365 Plan - I am interested in understanding why. Can someone please offer an explanation? That step seems to have been omitted from the documentation.

Hello everyone,11 virtual machines (Win&Linux) located in the vCenter were previously backed up as VMs. This has now been changed to FS backup, the old subclients have been deleted. Since then, OI licences have been assigned to the virtual machines.  All machines have the File System + Filesystem Core installed, some also have MSSQL Agent or Oracle.The VMS were discovered by the vCenter/VM backup before the agent was installed. They should therefore count as VMs.  This procedure has already been used for many machines, so far there have been no such problemsIs there a best practice on how to fix that behaviour?Regards,Marian

Hello everyone,I have a customer which runs backups of a DB2 database and need to run backups logs frequently, and everytime we run the backups logs, not only the Logs was running, but also the Data.And this was taking a while to complete, in addition to other issues (such as running command line backups, due to Commvault's default protection behavior). This delay was due to the subclient having both Data and Logs content, and when the Logs backup was executed, Data was also protected.To get around this, a new Plan was created, associating it with the same Storage that the original Plan is associated and having the desired Log backup frequency configured; a new Subclient was created and associated with this new Plan.With this, my question is: when performing the restore in this scenario, could Commvault have any problem? If so, what implications could this have? What the impacts in the restore could happen and what could be the workaround? Thank you.

Hello,We have some oracle database for which the "Archive Delete” option is disabled for both type of backups: datafiles L0/L1 and archive logs at the subclient level. So log backup should never get deleted.  There is a schedule attached composed by the regular schedule + an automatic schedule. This is the default setting in our environment and we would like to keep it like that. The idea is this automatic scheduler was triggered and deleted all the archive logs. We can see clearly in the rman logs "archive log all delete input”.My question might be stupid, but is this working as expected? The deletion of the log files... (personally, i believe so)? Even though on the scheduler this option is not selected as well:  Any input will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Recently, for a brief period, multi-factor authentication was required when logging into Commvault sites (Maintenance Advantage / Support Portal, Expert Documentation, etc). Is there any way to have that re-enabled for the Maintenance Advantage / Support Portal? It would be great if Expert Documentation didn't required MFA, it would be even better if Expert Documentation didn't require authentication at all.

NDMP Backups completed with errors due to following error:NDMP Server [] reported the following error: [DUMP: Error: The pathname 'java' is not allowed since it is either a junction or a symlink] Nevertheless Commvault shows 0 failed files or folders. Is anything can be done to make those backups green (complete without errors)? 

Hi,We would like to implement an airgapped environment for critical backup copies to remain isolated.This environment must be controlled completely on its own (from inside) so instead of Commvault’s airgap approach, we are thinking of using hardware replication provided by our backup storage appliance in which the disk library resides (OceanProtect).I understand that a Replica Library would let me use the hardware replicated disk library as read-only.Will this work even if the replication is not continuous, but configured to run only at a specific time? (meaning that the replicated disk library won’t always have the latest data). Would we be able to use the same or a standby MediaAgent to access that data? In case the original disk library is compromised and cannot be recovered, would there be a way of using the Replica Library as the main disk library (like replicating everything back to the source backup appliance and restarting normal operations)? My team is responsible for delivering Commvault as a Platform and we manage multiple environments. All environment leverage cloud storage as their primary storage target and we are deploying storage accelerator now to maximize the usage towards our on-premise S3 target which is FlashBlade/S target.Now the challenge we run into is the lack of visibility if storage accelerator is actually being used by the client or by the access node. According to the documentation you should be able to see on on the job details of a running backup if storage accelerator is used when the MediaAgent is showing the client name. However this didn't happen and we new for a fact that the client was able to connect. We opened a ticket more than 12 months ago and investigation lead to the resolution that the product contains a "cosmetic” bug resulting in the job controller detail not showing the change. Only way to investigate if the client is working and using storage accelerator is by going into the logs. A

I had several hundred tapes destroyed in a fire at our archive facility.Is there an easy way to mark approximately 1400 tapes bad all at once, vs clicking each tape and manually marking each one bad?How can I go about verifying the data that was on these tapes is no longer counting against my licensed capacity?

hi ,as part of hardware refresh we are moving all data to new storage pool, we have storage policy retetnion is 1 year and archival subclient for which retention is inifite are in this SP , when i created aux copy with all jobs its skipped all the jobs which is aged as per SP but jobs are available as per the subclient retetnion , i tried manually pick the job but there are no option  how can i copy all the jobs , do i need to recopy it ? 

I need to be able to assign access to only the Auto Recovery features. This would include “Replication Groups” “Replication Targets” and “Replication Monitor”. This Role would need to be able to create replication pairs in Azure using the Command Center.I don not want to allow any other access to systems, including deleting or managing VMs outside of Auto Recovery.Is this possible. Essentially looking for the minimum amount of permissions required to permit this task.Thanks.

Hi, looking for someone to confirm what I’m seeing on a RHEL CS with regards to the Java-based Scheduler as seen from the Console. While Limitations of Linux CommServe Server (commvault.com) doesn’t speak about this, to me it looks like the calendar is foobar. There’s no way to see what’s scheduled (details) for any day and all schedules are basically absent, yet, plans run, etc. So can someone check whether this is deprecated or if it needs some special attention to get functional again? I’ve made great strides moving things to plans but I still find the old Console tools to be quite beneficial when figuring out when runtimes are roughly. In our case it seems nearly impossible to completely do away with old style schedules, OnDemand backupsets being one such case.thanks

Hi together,I would like to understand how encryption works in detail.The situation: I am using client side encryption (at the source) and I want to use encrypted (or authenticated) network traffic between client and media agent.When I am using encrypted network traffic, all information (backup data and meta data … i.e. index, jobsresults) is encrpyted at the source (client) and decrypted at the target (media agent).The encryption/decryption is consuming CPU … of course.Does Commvault indentify that the backup data is already encrypted in this situation … or will the data be encrypted a second time for the network traffic … wasting my CPU? Or is Commvault only encrypting the meta-data for the network traffic?Best regards.Michael

We need help.We are currently using Commvault version 11.20 and backing up VM images. However, we are experiencing some issues where the VM backup frequently fails even though some backups are successful. We are unsure whether the issue is with Commvault or VMware, so we are leaving a question here.If you are aware of any issues regarding this problem or can suggest additional log data to check, we would appreciate it.Attached are the logs.

Hi, I'm carrying out tests in a laboratory environment to prepare for the migration of our CommVault solution, currently in version 11.28 on-premise. The aim is to create a new Windows Server 2022 virtual machine in Azure Cloud and migrate our CommVault database to it. So I created a new Windows Server 2022 Datacenter machine and installed CommVault version 11.32, as I couldn't find version 11.28 available for download from the CommVault store. The installation went well, but I wasn't asked to create any new users or passwords, which I thought was unusual.When I launch the CommCell console, I'm asked to enter a username or email address and a password. I've tried using the credentials for the local administrator account on the Windows machine, but I keep getting the following error message: "Invalid username/password. Please use valid credentials to log in."I've tried several combinations of accounts with and without the WORKGROUP domain, but none have worked.Can you help me resolve th
