Hi,we are currently restoring a few mailboxes from our users. Most of Messages are getting restored and is working fine, but we get a few failed/skipped Messages.The normal Report in the Commcell Console doesn’t list them either, (if we select “Failed Items”) and in the Command Center Report we couldn’t find any option as well.Is there any special Report that will give us more details? Even the CVMailRestore.log doesn’t tell us, that these failed/skipped messages are? kind regardsJoerg

We have been a very long time Intellisnap VMware ESX users. Sounds like we may be moving to Hyper-V. I am just wondering if any other folks have already run into this? How did you backups speeds turn out? I am curious what we may be in for with our backup windows. We currently get some really good throughput with the VMware backups. 500 GB/hr to 2,000 GB.hr. Any care to share your Hyper-V backup speeds?Thank you
Scheduled a Microsoft SQL restore to a different server but file name date does not updateWe have a scheduled SQL restore job that runs every night, however the .bak file date is not updating with the most current date, just want to know if that is normal ?the folder name we are restoring to is folder.bakPlease see screenshots. screenshot of restored files.
Hi,Just want check which one is easy to upgrade / new on Commserve with new MA and dedup hardware.Currently we have Commvault version 11.20 with FC based disk library and using Commvault deduplication with compression. Now planning to hardware refresh with new media agent and dedup appliance.Which option is good to proceed for this implementation.Option 1:Will go to upgrade latest commserve and then will go to new dedup appliance storage pool with new storage policies then will associate to sub clients to new policies.The new storage policies are disabling dedup and compression from commvault and will be enabled from hardware appliance end.And will move backup data from old disk library to new disk library.Option 2:Shall we go for new Commserve server and will install new commcell and then will restore to latest commserve DB.If we are going to new commserve, Is it will get license from commvault. Please advise.
Hi Community,when I read the documentation for best practices for SMTP journaling, i found that it is recommended to use one journal contact for not duplicating the journal reports, also it is recommended to have 2 ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP) for high availability and load balancing.so is that means that i have to create 2 SMTPs with 1 common journal contact?if no, how commvault will connect the 2 SMTPs together?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone is using the Calendar Backup Job Summary Report from Commcell and do some basic success rate calculating based on this?I think I’m able to use the raw Excel file and calculate the amount of successful and failed jobs using come sumproduct and countifs in Excel but if someone already has done this I’m interested on how it’s done.And there’s a small issue when changing storage policy for a server. Then there will be multiple row in the spreadsheet and I’m not Excel savvy enough to try and combine and find the unique servers and at the same time count the backups on multiple row.So any advise or tips is much appreciated.

Where we work, the physical disk(s) must be sanitized. Currently, there is no good way to only sanitize a specific data location on any disk in a local Commvault disk library. Yes, there’s the CVDisk Eraser Tool, but that is only good for a whole volume or mount point. There are tools like BCWipe, but for that to target a specific data location - you need to know the data’s location. Commvault doesn’t easily give up where it stores data for say, a single laptop agent’s backups. When I inquired about this with support, they said it would be non-trivial to determine. Plus then even if you did, there’s no way to gracefully wipe only the folder/data locations without dirtying the database(s), since you’d have the leave the folders there to eradicate with your sanitization tool *before* trying to remove it from the command center/java console. I suggested a CMR to dev, that would offer the ability to sanitize a single laptop agent’s specific data location(s), on deletion, with something lik

Hello expertsNeed to restore deleted data, and user have no clue about the size of data, in CommVault as you know we can see the size of individual files, but not folders, for folders and sub-folders it shows 0 Bytes.So is there anyway to find that before we actually hit the restore and filled up any space.

HelloWe have a cluster with 1 primary and 3 secondary servers, dump backup works from everyone but log backups only work on the primary. What is the best practice for this situation?And if you can backup the logs only from the primary how will it work when the primary failovers?

Hello Community,Lets discus about 2nd (auxiliary) copy in a Cloud Library.In case that need to have a 2nd (auxiliary) copy of on-prem Disk Library to a Cloud Provider (Azure), we have 2 options:Deploy a new MA to Azure, with its own DDB for these aux copies operations. Just configure the blob storage (also with new DDB) to an existing on-prem MA and start aux copies (without any additional MA deployment in Azure).Please for your feedback about these 2 approaches.With option 2, seems that you are going to save some cost from Azure MA VM, but what about optimization, performance and resource utilization?Please for your thoughts!Best regards,Nikos
If you have deduplication-enabled Storage Policies that are using an AWS S3 Infrequent Access tier or an Azure Cool Access tier (either directly, or via Combined Storage Tier configuration), there is potentially an opportunity to optimize your cloud storage costs by reviewing the associated DDB backup configuration.Noting that AWS Infrequent Access Tiers and Azure Cool Storage Tiers have a 30-day minimum storage duration, and that DDB backups are generally performed daily but only retained for 0 Days / 1 Cycle, it is more cost-effective to use S3 Standard / Azure Hot Access tiers for those DDB Backups.For example:100GB (DDB Backup) x $0.023 (S3) x 2 (accounting for once-daily data aging) = $4.60 per Month.100GB (DDB Backup) x $0.0125 (S3IA) x 30 Day Minimum Storage Duration = $37.50 per Month. For smaller environments it may not be worth the effort to change anything, but with our DDB Backups to S3IA exceeding 1.5TB, we are looking at an annual cost reduction of ~$6000.
Hello Experts, Our client cant communicate directly with Commcell. They go through media servers. As and when a new backup request comes, we open bidirectional communication between client and media servers for port 8400 to 8403. we would like to understand that when Backup schedule will kick off, which port will trigger to start the communication with media server and which port will help with data transfer. We would also like to know that once the data transfer is started, what will happen to the port which was responsible for data communication between client and MA.
AWS Cross account backup configuration.senario: having 3 AWS accounts to backup resources from Account A to a media agent in Account B that has backup bucket in account C ( account B & C are fine that I do backup account B resources as MA /AN/Proxy is here) , Account B IAM user is allowed to access resporces from Account A while configuring the commvault client for Account A backup can list the ressources from account B only though the account B user allowed to access account A , any Idea is that still viable option and supported ?
