Hello everyone! This is a generic set of questions to understand and share information on what are you guys doing regarding restore validation and testing. Any specific feature from Commvault that helps with that? Running workflows to automate those tasks? How often to run restore validation (validate only option). Does anyone uses that Validate Restore workflow from the Commvault store? Test restore using a subset from the whole universe? Let's consider VMware, Windows FS, Linux FS, Oracle. Regards!Pedro  

We can automatically upload copies of DR backups to the Commvault Cloud Services website.  To Upload backup metadata to Commvault cloud we should toggle key for Upload backup metadata to Mettalic cloud. Right?  What does the option Upload backup metadata to cloud library do?      

Hello,as far as I remember there was a workflow to convert policies (schedule and storage) to plans. It seems to be not available any more. Is there an easy way to convert? Thanks.

Does the DDB Verification Job do an equivalent work as The Data Verification Job? Is there any difference between them? I picked a job for Data Verification, but I didn't run Data Verification operation from Storage Policy All Tasks menu and today I realize that the picked job was verified.  There are some schedule policies to run a Incremental Verification of existing jobs on disk and deduplication database. And there is menu option to run a Data Verification from Storage Policy.  

Hi everyone,I’m using powershell to automate the send logs file for a specific job in commvault.  I want send these logs to a specific local path in the server, but according to the this documents Send-CVLogFile (commvault.com) the available option is to email. So my question is, there’s another way using powershell or other api to do this?  Thanks. 

Is there any way to poll/monitor the number of currently active Job Streams via CLI/API?We can see that value in the bottom part of the CommCell browser but I couldn’t find in the technical documentation any way to collect that value through some automated mechanism.Thank you!

What is the difference between protected and unprotected in kubernetes backup. When we start  kubernetes backup, some namespace is protected state and some namespace is not protected state, is it possible to restore unprotected namespace? 

Hi all. When looking in the Command Center under the Health Report, there is a section called “Scale Statistics” which displays me this: “Commserv database size is 64.25 GBThe CommServe database tables are too large.RemarksThe CommServe may be running beyond allowed scale limits. Needs immediate attention” I regularly as recommended by Commvault run the DBmaintenance, but this does not change anything. The setup have been running fine, but I’m just wondering if I should react on this. Regards-Anders

Hi Team, Could anyone help me understand why i could be seeing this errors on an oracle restore job. Considering the backup i am restoring from is from 1st which is recent, and the data verification for the job in the storage policy shows successful. The mediaagent is ready and the storage mountpaths associated to the job are also ready...other files are getting restored on the same job which tells me its not a communication issue but these ones it seems are not found? so i’m not sure if the job will complete successfully. Hello,I need to change the IP addresses for MGMT, Data Protection and Storage pool for my HyperScaleX because my network team decided to change the VLAN.I don’t where and how should I start it first. Do you guys have to do something like this before? I really need some helps on this.Thank you.

I have created Backup policy every 15 of month it will take synthetic full backup reset incremental. And retention & data ageing for 90 days.Can I configure keep only one synthetic full backup. Pervious synthetic should get deleted

Hi CV Forum. Hopefully someone can advise here. I couldn’t find these exact questions in the forum. I am going to upgrade from 11.20.172 to 11.28.(latest) and just have a few things I can’t seem to find in the masses of documentation.Great walkthrough here by Jos on the upgrade procedure to 11.26 and going to be pretty much the same procedure. We are running SQL 2016 and just wondering if anyone has come across the need to update.. I doubt it but couldn’t find it in the reams of documentation. Upgrade from version 11.20 to 11.26 (Latest release) | Community (commvault.com) Also, we are having to maintain some older EOL OS which require v9 and v10 client versions. Has anyone upgraded to 11.28.x and can they confirm they still work?  Thanks

Dear Support,We have a requirement to offload VMware backup processing to HyperScaleX server, we do not have SAN in the environment. The storage server presents the disk to ESXi hosts over the ISCSI method. Can we use the same disk presented to HyperScale X over ISCSI method and perform SAN mode backup? Not sure this is supported, if supported using which network label (Data Protection or CS Registration) the HyperScaleX can see the disks. Please help.

Hello,In the Advanced Options of a backup job there is a posability to change the retention for the specidic job at launch in various copies.As per documentation the job will be pruned according to the specified retention time. Does that also hold true if I would specify a retention less then the storage policy copy properties?If I have a stg policy copy with 365 days and 1 cycle. If I specify 180 days for the job, will it be pruned after 180days and not 365 days?//Henke

I am a huge fan of Activate. Many of nights were spent downing coffee whilst traveling down the massive rabbit-hole that is Activate. It does a few things very well. It does simple jobs horribly. So, who uses it? I do. In addition, I would love to hear about it if you used it as well. Most of the time that I get to one on one with other vaulters it is a topic quickly ignored. I even had one person say “What’s that?” yea- it is that product that no one really knows what to do with it. Kind of like Threatwise… What happened to that by the way?But .. you need it? Yep. I mean there are items such as Stealthbits or Varonis that do it , kind of. So why not keep one pane of glass and just use activate? Well… it’s kind of not easy . Or intuitive. Hellofor Method 2 : What is the scope of scanning for activities and files?Is there any impact on system performance when scanning these files or activities?Considering that they are scanned on the client machine frequently, why doesn't it result in a significant system load? thanks

Good morning,We have 3 subclients clients; VM, Filesystem, and MS SQL on a VM hosted on Hyper-V.  I’m looking at the backup history in the msdb database, and my MS SQL backups kicked off from Commvault are working as intended, and I see “CommVault Galaxy Backup” as the backup set name.However… the VM incremental backup kicks off at 10pm, and I see message like this in the SQL alert log:  I/O is frozen on database MyDatabase. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup. Then a few seconds later: I/O was resumed on database MyDatabase. No user action is required.  The backup at 9:25 was the incremental backup, while the 9:02 AM backup was me calling a full backup from the console.This might be a better example, this shows the 10pm incremental and a datab

Can anyone explain  to me what is the difference between “Duplicate” and “Restore out of place” for oracle databases? Isn’t it the same thing? It does restore data from a specific backup to a specific server/oracle instance. I still can’t undestand when to use one option over the other. Thanks to anyone that can explain. 

Hi Team,In our environment we have multipal DC’s and we are using Commvault idata agent to back them up.I need to understand the correct approach for restoring a DC with AD using our currnt backup methods in the event of AD being unavailable.Do i need to introduce any new method to backup and restore DC with AD. Regards,Rahul Raina

Hi all,we have recently set up a new Linux server with a 6+ TB DB. The normal CV backup works good, much faster than our old System. We have a problem although with database logs. When the System is being used it can produce new logs every three seconds. Our old system had an open pipe to the backup System and was able to Archive the files fast enough that we didn’t have a problem. CommVault takes around 15 seconds per file. When the system is under load we have a problem with our log space. We now have a temporary log area (2TB) which we need to give back.The way I understand it CV opens up ist stream to DB2, Archives to log the closes the stream and checks that everything has been properly archived. The Problem here is the overhead involved. The actual archiving of the file is fast enough, it just that everything around is to slow.Anybody have any suggestions how we can accelerate the process?Thanks in Advance!

Hi, is there a way to monitor the Status of the Commserve Activy Control. We are using PRTG to Monitor our Systems and want to get notfied about the Status of the Activity Control in the Commserve.  I checked the API but did not find anything which is related to this case. Maybe there is a way to trigger a SQL Statement to the Database or SNMP. Kind RegardsFlorian
