During configuring a SAN data server, Is we have an operating system that is required for media agent hosting disk libraries? Should it be Linux, or it be Unix or Windows?
I am new to Commvault so sorry if this is simple question or my question is not clear. I was told to check if our current running job are set as snap vault or NDMP. I am not sure where/how can I confirm this. When I am going to Properties > IntellSnap > I can see this enable and has a associated array listed. Does this mean is a snap vault backup .Is this something I can confirm from storage side. can you please help where/how? We using Netapp storage.
what will happen if a restore from tape is happening and I suspend the job and place CommVault on maintenance mode and reboot the tape library? Once the tape library reboots, and I resume the job will the restore be corrupted?
We are running a POC for seeding an AWS S3 bucket which will act as DASH target. For the seeding of data, we are using the AWS Snowball device. We have two goals in POC,Seed the OnPrem backup data to AWS S3 using Snowball device and ship it to AWS. Once seeded to S3 bucket, test restores from S3 and also validate the next DASH job to S3 only transfers unique data after deduping. Copy the DASH data from S3 to Snowball Device, ship the device to On-Prem. Perform restores from the Snowball device. We have successfully completed the first part of the POC and need to initiate the second phase. But before shipping the snowball device to AWS, we ran a data verification job on the Snowball to confirm all the seeded DASH jobs are in readable state. The job failed since Commvault was unable to read any data from the Snowball device, and we were getting read errors. We opened case with CV Support, and after confirming there was no issue with Commvault, we engaged the AWS Support. They mentioned th
Good Morning! I read the documentation on restoring Teams content: Teams (commvault.com) It states for private chats: “To back up these items, use either an Exchange Online app or a OneDrive for Business app.”Unfortunately, I didn’t find any more details on the subject. Could you tell me where the private chats are backed up and how can I restore them? Thank you,Zoltan
Hi Team,After the update to 11.28.93, our online backup goes into pending status and aborts after several restarts.Does anyone have any idea why this is suddenly happening?I see the following messages in the joblog:1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 **** CVMailBackupCoordinator.exe started with command line [-j 339626 -a 2:927 -c O365_Exchange -m K19-xxxxxxx.ad.xxxx.de*k19-xxxxxxx*8400 -t 2 -r 0 -i 2 -jt 339626:8:1:0:0:19052 -mt 1 -cn K19-xxxxxxx -vm Instance001 ]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 Current diretory set to [C:\Program Files\Commvault\ContentStore\Base]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 VMName [Instance001]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 Mailbox Type [User Mailboxes]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 jobID [339626]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 virtualClientName [O365_Exchange]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 Operation = Backup1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 CommCell ID [2]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 AppID/SubclientId [927]1568 1920 11/17 07:23:03 339626 Virtu
Hi Commvault community! Does anyone know if commvault has any paper for the case below?Does CommVault have implementation best practices documentation for backing up VMs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure?Backup/restore performance involving Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is very slow. In the backup configurations of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, there are no features like there are in VMware so that we can adjust and improve performance. Is there anything we can do on the CommVault side to improve performance? In VMware, we tested restores with a throughput of > 200GB/h. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's throughput is always less than 40GB/h using the same servers. This makes an OCI native VM of only 50GB take more than 1 hour to restore. We don't have bottlenecks between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and CommVault because the entire Commvault architecture is built inside Oracle Cloud.Does anyone have similar infrastructure with backups and OCI? Thanks,Heitor
Hi and happy new year to all of you !I would like to know if some of you have already implemented some LTO9 drives / tape libraries, and would love to get your feedback about it using Commvault. My experience on the LTO9 media, using dual tape drives tape libraries, is quite bad.The Media calibration / optimization / characterization phase that any new LTO9 media has to deal with is a pain, on my side.Looks like on the first mount of a media -- let me reword it in my ‘old guy’ words -- it has to be somehow formatted to be able to be used by your favourite backup software. Below a link to Quantum’s FAQs about this :https://www.quantum.com/globalassets/products/tape-storage-new/lto-9/lto-9-quantum-faq-092021.pdf Short calculation : 50 LTO9 brand new tapes may require up to 2hours each of ‘calibration’ before they can be used. So this equals to 100 hours of ‘calibration’ before you could use the full 50 tape pool.. 😱 My 1st issue was that I had to adjust all the mount timeouts in that LT
We have recently expanded our MSL6480 Tape library with six new LTO9 drives. Initialized 10 new LTO9 tapes from the Library console. However upon checking the properties of the tapes from the CommVault console --→ under media info tab--→ format & type it is showing as ultrium-V7. have anyone faced this problem? please help me to fix this.
Hi, Can anyone please advise how I can find out when/where are database was restored to? I’m talkign about SQL databases that might have restored in place, out of place or to a file. The DB I’m interested in will not have been restored to it’s original server but I need to know where else it may or may not have been restored. I have access to the Java GUI and the browser interface. I can see a report called “Restore job summary” but that is a summary, I need to be able to filter by (source) database. Thanks
Hello Team, I am migrating a SQL Cluster from Data protector to Commvault. Do you know if we can migrate by leaving data protector installed and running, and moving gradually the DB backup to Commvault one by one ? I Just want to know if Data protector and Commvault can run together. Data protector will be uninstalled when all DB will be backed up successfully to Commvault. Thanks !
Is there a schedule policy for restoration?
This is my 6th or 7th RA deployment and first time I have run into this issue. I ran through the process up setting up the 25G bonded networks (one for DP and one for storage) got the system into the commserve and then went to have it update to the latest version. cvupgradeos.py ran fine for hedvig updating to 4.7.13, but when I went to upgrade from 11.24 which was pre-loaded on the nodes the first server succeeded, but the second hung. It didn’t give me any feed back. I opened a case and have been waiting to get any feedback. I am unable to ssh between nodes now and occasionally can using the DP network. I verified that there is nothing wrong with the network stack. Ping, netstat all is good. The services are up and listening. Firewalls are disabled. I ran a nc -vvv (node name) 22 and it connects but hangs. Connection is not refused, nor terminated at the other end. Commvault on node one shows updated to the latest version but will not communicate with the commserve now. Support says
Hello, I’m using Commvault v11.32.28.In building some custom Python scripts that utilize the API I’ve found an endpoint that seems to be broken, or else I’m not using it properly. The endpoint is: /V4/Storage/Tape/{libraryId}/MediaMy understanding is that this is supposed to return media associated with a specific tape library. The “/V4/Storage/Tape” endpoint works, returning details about my library. But “/V4/Storage/Tape/{libraryId}/Media” gives me a status 200 (success), but no data.Is anyone else out there successfully gathering media details from the API?
Our SQL client server has 2 interfaces. Backup runs on one VLAN but cluster config runs on the other VLAN. I was able to setup backup as single node instance and running. After creating a Failover Cluster INstance it cannot add the SQL instances into it as it has connection problems. My question is.. do we need to have both node and cluster IP in one VLAN?
Hello,we plan to backup our exchange online environment. Is it possible to combine, Index Servers and access node one same servers ?2 powerfull Servers instead of 4. Thanks
Have an old Exchange backup on tape from an old Commvault which we no longer have, I can restore Server backups using mediaexplorer tool and I can see the Exchange DB backups on there but the restore option is greyed out on the exchange DBsIs it possible to restore the exchange DBs from an old tape using the MediaExplorer tool ?Thanks for any help.J
I want to create an alert for consecutive transaction log backups, but there do not seem to be any tokens for job type. Any suggestion?
Hello Commvault Experts, I'm dealing with a time synchronization issue in our setup where Hazelcast is missing its 5-second heartbeats, presumably due to 30-second time leaps during our backup snapshots. This results in dropped connections and servers hanging, a problem that emerged suddenly. We suspect that Commvault snapshot operations might be causing this. Would application-aware backups be the right approach to prevent such disruptions, especially for time-sensitive applications like Hazelcast and ActiveMQ? If so, what specific application-aware backup configurations does Commvault support for these applications? Any insights on strategies to maintain operational integrity during backups would be highly valuable. Thanks for your help.
Please help me with the CLI command that list all clients and its sub clients in CommServe and save the output to .csv/.txt file.
I am doing a restore that requires a linux file recovery enabler, for an on-prem restore. For various reasons I cannot deploy a new FREL but I have a FREL in Azure. I assume that the FREL is only used to browse the restore metadata, and the actual restore will be done without using the Azure FREL and without being bonked over the head with egress charges.
Hello,Restore Guest files from the primary Netapp storage works perfectly but not from the secondary storage (snapvault destination). From the list of snapshots, the snapshot is failed to mount. On “Browse and Restore”, error is : Unrecognized error 30On primary Cluster Ontap, Datastores are on FCP LUN.On secondary Cluster Ontap, Primary LUN are replicated on volume.I suppose we have to configure the secondary Cluster, what do we have to do , LUN FCP, LUN ISCSI, NFS Volumes ? Where the snapshot is mounted on the destination, on MA, Esx or FREL ? Thanks in advance for your replies,Gilles
