Hello,I need to change the IP addresses for MGMT, Data Protection and Storage pool for my HyperScaleX because my network team decided to change the VLAN.I don’t where and how should I start it first. Do you guys have to do something like this before? I really need some helps on this.Thank you.

I have created Backup policy every 15 of month it will take synthetic full backup reset incremental. And retention & data ageing for 90 days.Can I configure keep only one synthetic full backup. Pervious synthetic should get deleted

Hi CV Forum. Hopefully someone can advise here. I couldn’t find these exact questions in the forum. I am going to upgrade from 11.20.172 to 11.28.(latest) and just have a few things I can’t seem to find in the masses of documentation.Great walkthrough here by Jos on the upgrade procedure to 11.26 and going to be pretty much the same procedure. We are running SQL 2016 and just wondering if anyone has come across the need to update.. I doubt it but couldn’t find it in the reams of documentation. Upgrade from version 11.20 to 11.26 (Latest release) | Community (commvault.com) Also, we are having to maintain some older EOL OS which require v9 and v10 client versions. Has anyone upgraded to 11.28.x and can they confirm they still work?  Thanks for any advice. Alan

Dear Support,We have a requirement to offload VMware backup processing to HyperScaleX server, we do not have SAN in the environment. The storage server presents the disk to ESXi hosts over the ISCSI method. Can we use the same disk presented to HyperScale X over ISCSI method and perform SAN mode backup? Not sure this is supported, if supported using which network label (Data Protection or CS Registration) the HyperScaleX can see the disks. Please help.

Hello,In the Advanced Options of a backup job there is a posability to change the retention for the specidic job at launch in various copies.As per documentation the job will be pruned according to the specified retention time. Does that also hold true if I would specify a retention less then the storage policy copy properties?If I have a stg policy copy with 365 days and 1 cycle. If I specify 180 days for the job, will it be pruned after 180days and not 365 days?//Henke

I am a huge fan of Activate. Many of nights were spent downing coffee whilst traveling down the massive rabbit-hole that is Activate. It does a few things very well. It does simple jobs horribly. So, who uses it? I do. In addition, I would love to hear about it if you used it as well. Most of the time that I get to one on one with other vaulters it is a topic quickly ignored. I even had one person say “What’s that?” yea- it is that product that no one really knows what to do with it. Kind of like Threatwise… What happened to that by the way?But .. you need it? Yep. I mean there are items such as Stealthbits or Varonis that do it , kind of. So why not keep one pane of glass and just use activate? Well… it’s kind of not easy . Or intuitive. In addition, no one can help you. “Well, just use the Documentation” -- You use it. It is never what is needed. Typically the steps before or after what you need are there. Good morning,We have 3 subclients clients; VM, Filesystem, and MS SQL on a VM hosted on Hyper-V.  I’m looking at the backup history in the msdb database, and my MS SQL backups kicked off from Commvault are working as intended, and I see “CommVault Galaxy Backup” as the backup set name.However… the VM incremental backup kicks off at 10pm, and I see message like this in the SQL alert log:  I/O is frozen on database MyDatabase. No user action is required. However, if I/O is not resumed promptly, you could cancel the backup. Then a few seconds later: I/O was resumed on database MyDatabase. No user action is required.  The backup at 9:25 was the incremental backup, while the 9:02 AM backup was me calling a full backup from the console.This might be a better example, this shows the 10pm incremental and a database backup: Can someone help me understand this?  The MS SQL datafiles are supposed to be excluded from the VM backups, so why is the differential VM backup freezing IO on my datafiles?

Can anyone explain  to me what is the difference between “Duplicate” and “Restore out of place” for oracle databases? Isn’t it the same thing? It does restore data from a specific backup to a specific server/oracle instance. I still can’t undestand when to use one option over the other. Thanks to anyone that can explain. 

Hi Team,In our environment we have multipal DC’s and we are using Commvault idata agent to back them up.I need to understand the correct approach for restoring a DC with AD using our currnt backup methods in the event of AD being unavailable.Do i need to introduce any new method to backup and restore DC with AD. Regards,Rahul Raina

Hi, is there a way to monitor the Status of the Commserve Activy Control. We are using PRTG to Monitor our Systems and want to get notfied about the Status of the Activity Control in the Commserve.  I checked the API but did not find anything which is related to this case. Maybe there is a way to trigger a SQL Statement to the Database or SNMP. Kind RegardsFlorian

 Is there any additional setting to avoid the archive log backups when a Database backup is activeIf a Database backup and an hourly archive log backup runs at the same time,  it throws an Oracle errorORA-00230: operation disallowed: snapshot control file enqueue unavailable To avoid this situation is there any additional setting to skip/queue the archive log backup when a DB backup is active. 

I’ve read up a bit and I’m not quite understanding why I’m seeing this error sometimes…Basically, we have the copies and retention for this policy set up like this:primary copy → secondary → to-tapecopy: Retention Days,Full Cycles,Archiver Retention Days,Extended Retention (Rule,days,grace days) ,Data Agingprimary:14,1,infinite, n/a, n/a, Enabledsecondary:7,1, infinite, (Monthly Full/60/0), Enabledto-tape: infinite, infinite, infinite, n/a, EnabledNote: “to-tape” is a selective copy, “Monthly Fulls” → last full Note: We do have this setting set to 1: Media management → Data Ageing → “Disable jobs for Auxillary Copy that have met its retention” Questions:We are seeing the [13:187] error occur when running “to-tape”. If the target database already has instances running with different names and I do a restore of another database, will the data or the instance on the target system be deleted or overwritten or will it only add the new instances on the target system ?

Hello I’m working on an application to capture all clients in an environment and assess their backup status. So far I’m getting stuck on capturing all the clients in the environment. I see there are multiple endpoints that I have to hit to capture all the items and I’m wondering if there is a catchall endpoint for this OR if there’s not, what could be the best way to go about this process?Endpoints I’ve touched so far:/Clients/Clients/VSAclientlist/Clients/VMPseudoClient Any assistance would be appreciated

My customer has a 5 year old Hyperscale appliance,It is end of support in October 2023.  We are being told that at end of support, the software will cease to function, either for backup or restore.  Is this correct?
