Good day all I just want to get some thoughts for those who use a storage target which has it’s own option for encryption.I’m setting up a new environment which will use VAST storage as a backup target. I will be enabling encryption and ransomware protection on the Commvault side. Would it be recommended to also enable encryption on the storage level using VAST’s encryption?Logically it wouldn’t make sense to encrypt encrypted data, but I want to check if anyone has any thoughts on this? Thanks,Mauro

Hello Every one,Our current storage is almost out of space, so we want to move all of the backup data to a new Storage.we are thinking of the following:- Create new Disk library contains mount paths of the new storage.- Move the mount path from old mount paths to the new mount paths.- Change the storage policy data path to the new mount path.The reason behind we thought of using moving mount path method, because using Aux copy method would require to stop current backup jobs while moving the mount path doesn’t require that.what is your advice about this approach

Hello! I’m trying to do a “full virtual machine” restore of a few VMs, and I think that something is majorly wrong with the system. Disclosure that full VMs are not something we have to do very often at all.About 6 months ago we switched from using a Dell SAN that had intellisnap support in commvault via Dell Storage Manager (DSM) to a cheaper SAN (a powervault) that doesn’t have intellisnap support. So at the recommendation of our Commvault local partner that we buy our licenses through, we switched our VSA backup type from NBD/Auto to SAN.Now, for the first-ever attempt of a “full virtual machine” the restore job starts, then I immediately get an error like below.Error Code: [91:81]Description: Unable to write data to the virtual disk [[iSCSI (ME2)] VM4_testrestore_delete/VM4_testrestore_delete.vmdk] because it is read-only. Hi All, we had an internal discussion for new customers what Library is the best way. Often we are running Windows Cluster withs csv volumes or windows filecluster or single servers with san attached storage.  In the past there are a lot of problems with the ransomware on CSV an Filecluster.  Do you have some more information wich way should be good or better to prevent redirected I/O in cluster and also errors during maintanance ?  Also is there any possibility to check if the ransomware protection is working on a CSV / Windows file cluster ? Sure the option is set but did we had an option to test if its working ? 

Hi, I need your help. Maybe I do not see it all anymore, or we have a flaw in the automatic authorizing workflows or better said, we miss one.This is the caseIf we delete a client a workflow starts which sends a mail to authorize. Works fine. One note though if a job is running for that client, it will not notify you, message is send but after authorizing the client will not be deleted.If we delete a backupset the same, works fine, email is being sent.But now it comesThere is also an agent we can delete and I do not see a workflow for this.When I hit delete, it will say if there is a job running or not, but if not, I just have to fill in the known words and the agent along with all data is deleted.I have no other environment to test quickly to check if it is for this particularly environment but does anyone else encountered this maybe??Looking forward to any answer. Thanks,Danny

i have this weird issue that some of our server says no Job within SLA period but when i check all the servers, all of them is completed within 14 days.is there an issue within the reporting because all of their backups is completing. our SLA is configured for 7 days but it says like that on the report.  

Following best practices is important for any aspect of our product, but this is especially important with regard to the Deduplication Database.  A well-specced Media Agent that meets and exceeds our hardware recommendations hosting a DDB that is configured properly can achieve incredible feats of space savings and backup performance.  Conversely, without proper planning and optimal configuration the performance and storage usage can be negatively impacted. Since the inception of deduplication in Commvault one of these Best Practices has always been that Extended Retention should not be used on a DDB being used for a Primary Copy.  To prevent a DDB from becoming too ‘bloated’, our recommendation has been to segregate long-term retention into its own DDB, leaving only Basic Retention on your Primary Copy.  Although it may appear obvious that longer retention means a larger DDB, the true reason for this may not be immediately apparent.

Commvault 11.18 (soon to be 11.20).    - We are on the cusp of eliminating our secondary backups to tape.   The benefit of a secondary copy on tape was the build-in air-gapping (and ability to move it offsite for safe-keeping).    We plan to move to creating our secondary copies on disk in a different city.   Commvault’s built-in Ransomware protection is  no-brainer, but WHAT ABOUT WORM?    What are the implications of the WORM storage on space consumption?   Is there any scenario in which a WORM-enabled deduplicated secondary copy that is a true copy of the deduplicated primary copy (and with the same retention) would be any LARGER than the primary copy?   Presumably, if a 1000 jobs share one block on the secondary storage, that block will not be removed until the last of those 1000 jobs ages out.Any info is appreciated.   Thanks!

Hello guys,is there a method, that allows me to rename the CommServe’s client name ?in previous Version (<SP16), I was able to do this during a DR Recovery. But this option seems to be removed from CSRecoveryAssistent.I now can modify the displayName instead, but most of the reports, as well as the MetricsServer, are still pointing to the clientName, which can be slightly confusing.I moved the CommServe to a different Domain, and the ClientName was matching the HostName, which is the FQDN of the CommServe.I’m using currently using FR22 for this environment.any hints wellcomeKlaus

Hi All,I have build the License Server in the Azure recently with single cloud storage, its protect by DR backup. There is no deticated MA or VSA.My License Server/SQL was completely hardened and had lot of customization. So, rebuild the new Server with DR backup will be a tedious job during recovery process.Is there any other way to protect the VM and create a seamless recovery process?Is it make sense or works if I configure the CS as MA/VSA to backup same CS? TIA,Mani

Hello, I hope you are doing well.I need your valuable help.What should I do so that commvault only backs up the files in the root directory of a linux machine (HP-UX)?Example: in other backup software when using "/" it only recognizes that it is only for backing up the root directory, in commvault it backs up the whole machine, including files that are not necessary. thank you very much. :)

Can I restore Active Directory from a snapshot of a virtual machine?Active Directory is a virtual machine. I have doubt if the restore of Sysvol, will restore fully.
