Hello,I have a daily schedule (daily 21H and full Synth on Saturday at 22h) that is use to backup file system inside VMs and also backup the VM itself via VMware snapshots (san transport mode)Can I use the same schedule to backup via VMware Snapshot and also data inside the VM at the same time ? When attempting to populate a review set for a compliance search, we have noticed when the information management job is ran the CIServer directory of the search node expands, to a point as to where it fills up the OS drive and fails the job with the error code 19:1109. Is anyone aware of what this directory is for and whether we can move this onto another drive? Kind RegardsJon

Hello CV Community I am now worryingly getting the following error on my month end backups to Cloud. Below are the two different errors. Has anyone come across this before. support are recommending to run data verification jobs on the partially copied jobs. However these jobs run in to days rather than hours and my aux copies are falling further behind. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regardsTonyQ
I have a couple of clusters that are failing to backup, in both cases the remote nodes are syncing good.I can browse to the cluster drives but not able to back them up. Question: What are the possible errors of logs to look at specific to the cluster backup
Auditors want Logs for Events, Job History, Failed/Killed History, Restore History - 14 months worth
One of our auditors' controls is we provide a list of failed backups (from CommVault events) and they make a selection of several failed backups and ask to show that we have mitigated those failed backups. That's currently done by showing a successful rerun of the backup. We provide the details of the successful job from the log. Where we are stuck is, the auditors want to go back at least 12 months. We have the usual backups with a 30 day retention, some 6 months, some 12 months, some longer.https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=11952.htm is not entirely clear, but seems to say that the job history logs are kept as long as the protected data. Is the protected data and the job details correspondingly aged together and stored with the job on the MediaAgent’s Library? Hi all,in the jobs review for the storage policy I can see that all jobs are triggered under User Name "admin". Now, I need to change this to username "backup".Is the workaround "Transferring Ownership of Entities" (https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=95233.htm) the correct approach to change the User Name under the backup job is triggred?
This was a great post and I’m glad things are changing, but I would like to request one more improvement: can we not have the MFA secret key emailed?Email has a tendency to leave a trail all over the place. A copy can be grabbed from a relay, a spam filter, a deleted bin or even in a company-policy-mandated permanent archive. So if an admin’s mail-enabled domain credential gets hacked and that account is used to administer CommVault, then it just takes a quick search (maybe in the admin’s own inbox) for “CommServe Administrator just doubled your safety” and now you have the MFA secret key. Keep in mind, it’s been shown that attackers are inside company networks sniffing around for a while before they make their attack.The MFA secret key should be displayed to the end-user via the CommCell Console (ideally in a QR code) after the first successful authentication. It should never be sent through a permanent or semi-permanent medium such as email.
I’m pretty new to the whole Commvault backup software, so please bear if I’m asking a stupid question.We have a lot of storage policies which we aren’t using anymore for new backups. But these policies contain still a lot of backup jobs until their retention expires. So I wonder if it is possible to either copy these jobs to another policy so that we can delete the old ones, or if it’s possible to merge storage policies somehow?Thanks
One of the things that is going to blow up here in my company soon is some jobs are taking over 24 hours to backup x amount of data. the clients which have huge durations are usually windows or linux file systems with variences of data being backed up from 2 TB to 8 TB+. My systems and networking department don't like to help unless all evidences point to an actual problem with either the network, or the server itself that is causing the latency of duration. Is there an easy way on commvault’s end to point out that “this client is running at this x GB/Hr, compared to when it was X GB/Hr” and prove that its not the backup software is causing the issue? I know when a active job runs it shows average throughput, and when double clicking on the job id it shows a percentage (Read: X%, Network X%) but I don't know if that's showing the percentage of what's causing the job s duration or what its trying to show. I want to avoid tidious work of going back and forth with my departments on each

They made mention that Netcool is making use of webhooks to receive alerts and notifications.I am not getting any results around Commvault’s configuration of webhooks.Does anyone have any information if this is available and how to configure it? Hello Commvault Community, My client after updating to the latest version of HotFix 11.20.53. Client began to observe critical events in Event Report. (screen)The problem is that the event description says about a failed to push Network Configuration attempt for Client - no information about which client. There are more and more events, and we don't know where to look for the problem. Is the problem global and threatens the environment and the jobs working with it? I recommended my client to do DBmaintenence - full, I am waiting for the results. Wondering how can I set a specific time for TRANS logs to expire. I dont see where I can set a specific RETENTION for the TRANS logs backup schedule. I notice on a FULL Schedule for SQL or for Windows File systems when you click the “Advance” button on the bottom of the “Schedule Pattern” tab that there is a “Media” tab on the “Advance backup options” and you can set job retentions etc… For a TRANS schedule the media Tab doesnt offer that??ThanksBC
I manage a new, hardened CV11.20 environment with 2 physical Windows MediaAgents (MAs) running Windows 2019 LTSC with the CommServe and VADP proxies as VMs.The backupset and default subclient under each MA are greyed out and I don’t have the option to create a new subclient, so I expect this behaviour is as designed. I’ve used CV for 13 years and have previously protected the C: drive, app drive and system state as a backup job with no issues (and special filters for log dir etc.).DDB backups run reliably on the MA. Under the default subclient on the control tab Backup is enabled and I’m performing all changes as a member of the master group.When I try to run a backup the only option is a synthetic full where I get the error "Failed to run task. no associations exist" - obviously since a backup has never run. But the options to take a full/incremental/differential backup don’t exist.There is no list of jobs under backup history for the default subclient.I have ransomware protection en
Hello community,I am testing a Commserve failover.I have already made a test when there were no firewall and all is ok.Now it is in production and firewall is implemented.There is ON premise site and AWS site connected through direct connect VPNeach site is backuped up locally, it means that actually there is no backup copy from on premise to AWS. I am not sure about the communication and ports used when the commserve DR becomes the master.I think that when the commserve located on AWS become the master, the new commserve should communicates with MA and clients locatedon aws and also on premise Here is a little diagram, any help would be very appreciated.I need somehelp to identify what port to use and what source and destination (bidirectionnal or not) and I will ask the network team to add rules. Hello All,I am about to configure alert for Backup Copy fallen behind.Long story short i would like to have monitoring for the bakcup copies of VSA snapshots.Recently we faced issue with missing synthetic full and broken chain, and after that no backup copy was executed automatically. In order to avoid such delays in the backup copies i would like to setup monitoring for this and if the same issue appear in the future to receive notification.So, i have activated the Backup Copy fallen behind on the storage policies in question: https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=106912.htmBut in the alerts tab there is no configured alert for this as it is with “AUX Copy fallen behind”So can someone who configured such alert give me idea what Alert Category & Type have to be set ?
