SaaS (Metallic) Q&A

In Metallic , if we are backing up only teams channel data then it seems that same data is also there in sharepoint.Because , at the backend its stored in a SharePoint Site created for that.Can somebody confirm this ? if we stop backing up teams channel then we can restore the same file from SharePoint also, provided we don’t need “Posts” backup. 

We have encountered an unexpected change in the target media name for SQL server backups on our Commvault Metallic environment. The media name has been changed from "CommVault Galaxy Backup" to "commvault.backup". This change has disrupted our existing backup status scripts, which were designed based on the original media name. Appreciate if anyone provide more information on this? 

Over the last several days my jobs are getting killed on Metallic because of this error [82:158]. Since we’re on the cloud we don't have any control over Media Agent or storage.  Are other customers seeing this problem as well? I’m still trying to catch up on all my EXO backup, but these problem keep making it difficult to do. 

Hello my dear Community!I have a question from a customer for which I honestly can’t answer. If a customer is using let’s say 10 TB of Air Gap Protect to protect all his VMs, and he decides to release the license on one of his VMs, and let’s say that that VM is consuming 1 out of the 10 TB, will releasing the license also reduce the AGP consumption? Or will it stay exactly the same? I know there is dedup and all, but lets say that this VM actually has 1 TB of unique blocks out of that 10 TB. Will it decrease the license usage but still keep the data for the retention?I would believe it’ll stay the same but I want to confirm. In Commvault Core, when you release a server that uses FET license, it does release that capacity back right away. I want to know if it does the same in Metallic.Thanks in advance.

we initiated a support ticket with commvault about metallic which is now commvault cloud and it is related to oracle restoration which is now more than 2 weeks for an urgent restoration and no solution was provided till this moment. When starting a job restoration related to oracle the screen hangs for some time as if it is loading something and after long time it vanishes and does not post any job id in the background. We have been pushing the support team to solve it for quite some time but no proper feedback.   

In Metallic, as per the plans weekly selective full backup is configured but weekly synthetic full backup is running and monthly full is running. how it is possible?

Hello, I want to use PowerBI to retrieve data from Commvault Cloud SaaS plateform but even after reading the documentation from API portal and tried to connect to the URL with a specific user I didn’t make it work.Does anyone already use a custom query into PowerBI to get access to Commvault platform through API ?I don’t need help about transforming the data but just to understand how to connect to the API it seems that there is no token, I need to use a username and password to my metallic.io URL but it’s unfortunately not clear. Thanks for your help. Benjamin

Customer has SaaS and wants to include their Azure virtual machines for unusual file activity monitoring.  in SaaS are we able install a restore only agent on the virtual machines to include them for monitoring?  Please provide instructions for my SaaS customer to obtain and install this restore only agent themselves.

Customer has concerns that storage usage keeps increasing with incremental backup for M365. There is also risk if one of the jobs corrupted (job 99), we cannot recover future jobs (job 100). What is the workaround to have weekly full backup for M365?Can we create weekly full backup for M365 for all mailboxes (new mailboxes are _automatically_ added into the backup job)? I have created a rsyslog server and configured metallic to send audit trails and alerts using syslog server by following this guide - https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/essential/114237_configuring_syslog_server.html?_gl=1*pf4vx8*_gcl_au*MTAwMzEzNTY2LjE2ODkxNjQyNDI. I am not able to see any audit logs on my rsyslog server. I have configure rsyslog server to listen on both tcp and udp. 

How can i view the content of a restore job.

I’ve recently deployed an M365 backup from Commvault Cloud. I would like to understand why Teams backup requires a Microsoft API Delegated Permissions and why can’t Microsoft API Application Permissions instead.

2019 iMac, i9, 128GB RAM, 4TB OWC SSD, macOS Sonoma 14.4.1, backed up by Metallic Endpoint (laptop).I’m getting the error “Some huge extended attributes couldn't be backed up” and “Resource deadlock avoided” on the individual files in an encrypted (Cryptomater) directory under iCloud on my Mac. This is new, only in the past 4 days. I’ve used Metallic to back up this machine for 4 years.iCloud is showing the “Download” icon, so some files are local and the rest are in iCloud. Hello,We are running some pre-DR tests and workflows and I have come across an issue with VMWare VM restores (Windows) to Azure.  Basically, the Azure agent does not get installed.  The server can be reached through RDP, but other extensions that require the Azure agent, won’t work.  I worked with Microsoft and they showed me how to install the agent, both online and offline.  However, looking through the documentation, Converting to Azure Resource Manager (metallic.io), I see a mention of installing Hyper-V drivers for Linux, but nothing for Windows machines.Is this normal behavior?Thank you!

Hello,When I try to add content to the various O365 applications on metallic, I get a discover task launched but it doesn't execute.I click on refresh cache, it goes to "in progress" then if I refresh it goes back to "not started". I get the same error for all applications. This isn't the first time I've configured apps on metallic, and it worked fine a few weeks ago.*has anyone ever had this problem?Kind regards Max

Hello,We are running small env using Metallic SaaS,I’ve went through the API options ( api.commvault.com), looking for a way to get the ‘Activity Control’ status of an Azure Oject storage instance ( Blob / Azure file). I’ve Found almost all the instance properties beside the one I need.Is there a way to fetch the activity control status ( backup / restore ) ?   Thanks

i tried adding metallic console in command center it went successful , however while trying access it , it says permission denied, now i am not able unlink as well
