Storage and Deduplication

Hello,I am on commvault v11 SP20 trying to restore exchange mailbox items by changing copy precedence or using a disk library from aux copy (not primary) Restore runs fine but always picks up media agent associated with primary copy.Tried from commcell console and command center (no option to change copy precedence in command center for exchange mailbox) Is it expected behavior or I am doing something wrong here?

When Commvault introduced the defaultArchiveSet alongside the defaultBackupSet I think I misunderstood how it was supposed to be used an this resulted in me misconfiguring that subclient. We have a file server which has a number of drives that I backup, but we also wanted to archive files within that backup location. So we setup seperate subclients one under defaultbackupset and one under defaultarchiveset. This has caused some of the same data to be backed up twice. What I am thinking is that we should have just configured archiving under the defaultbackupset subclient and left the defaultarchiveset alone?  

Hi teamsIn the Media Library page under the Media group column, categories are displayed in “monthly” (MENSUELLE in french) section while tapes are annual.I check scratch pool and storage policies, all is correct.Any Ideas ?Regards.

Because of a bug, my cloud storage hit 100% full and not all year-end backups were replicated to the cloud.  I’ve worked with CommVault support and now have 50% free space.  Even though the Aux Copy job has run several times, there are still year-end backups that haven’t replicated to cloud storage.  How do I get CommVault to copy the missing backups?Ken

Does the use of combined Tiers in Azure ‘imply / force’ the use of a Media Agent running in Azure(Assume the Data in Azure would be 300TB)

Hello Community,I have many LTO that contain backups from another commcell (Commcell A). I want to add the jobs of these LTOs in the commserve database (Commcell B).So Commserve know the jobs and can restore in the Commcell B. Next, software encryption is enable on LTO Copy in Commcell A.Is it possible and how ? Thanks :)

Situation is I have a setup with three hyperscale nodes and a cloud library. The wish is to use all three the nodes to the cloud library and make two DDB partition on each node. At the moment we were able to connect two of the nodes to the library and create two DDB partitions on the two nodes, but when I try to add two more partitions for the third node the add partitions option os greyed out. As from the documentation :”Configuring Additional Partitions for a Deduplication Database” you should be able to create a six partition DDB. This is also the case for the two existing Storage Pool Libraries on the Hyperscales. So my question is, am I doing something wrong, missing a limitation or is something wrong within the configuration which is causing this?

Hello,Is there a script that prevents a tape from being reused? Only script i found was the mark tape full, but that doesn´t assure me that the tape won’t get used once the data in it expires.I have around 12k tapes that i need to prevent reuse and doing it via GUI doens’t seem to be very workable.Any ideas? Kind regards,Amaral

I hope this is simple to answer for someone.  I looked in the Azure portal but was unable to find what I was looking for. We’re new to using Azure archive for our secondary copies, and the billing seems higher than expected.  Actual billing is showing about five times higher than estimates.  We’re wondering if some data is in hot or cool rather than archive.  Is there an easy way to identify what is in hot, cool, and archive by a chart or something in the portal?

Have some alerts that just started showing up in the past couple of days for a particular AWS cloud libraryCloud MountPath(s) without pruner MediaAgent [ {Library[Lib1] MountPath[[store2] s3-backup] DeviceName[Device_94]} ]  (yesterday and today. Same time each day)andFailure Reason: Failed to check status of parent directory, media agent cannot access the storage. (started on the 19th and occurs roughly at the same time each day) (Additionally this error first occurred when the cloud storage was associated with a different Media Agent.  )The library has two mount paths, and the mount error mostly comes from the 2nd path.  Although it once reported the other.Checked the jobs for the storage policy related to it, and it seems that nothing is missing.Have looked through the logs and other than the similar alert text, I don’t see what could be causing the alerts. There are multiple storage policies using

Advice: Import this media into the correct library and retry the operation. whY is he complaing for DR server WHY?    this job was run by HQ media server and also copy by HQ media drive now my issue is why is it complaining of media that did not even write the job

I want to move my data from one mount point to other in a DDB setup...These mountpaths are from different storage.Basically we are decommissioning an old storage that was used to store Infinite retention backup so will have to move all those data to a new storage.Please suggest the best approach for this

The documentation isn’t clear - Do we schedule the vault tracking report to run after it's vault tracking export policy starts, or after?

We make daily backups of our servers.Every month we write the backup data on tapes.The retention period for these tapes is one year.For December, we create an end-of-year backup with unlimited retention time.Our goal is to have an annual backup for December and reuse the remaining months' tapes after one year.Due to server retirement, there are monthly tapes that we cannot reuse without first deleting the contents (Retain time until: infinite). If we do so, we lost data.Is there a solution to this problem?

In my organization, I have two HP MSL4048 tape libraries containing two Ultrium drives which uses LTO7 tapes with a capacity of 5.47 TB. The firmware for both libraries are the same. The Use Appendable media setting is 14 days.For the two years, for one of the tape libraries, about once every two months one of the empty tapes gets written to but it doesn’t fill up to the capacity. And if in three days the tape is not written to, then it will not be written to at all and will choose a different tape, even though it’s before the appendable setting of 14 days, and its media info properties clearly states Yes of it’s appendable. The other tape library on the other hand will always fill tapes to its capacity.Attached file no_writing_prematurely.jpg shows such an example. The last time it was written to was on 12/6/21, and the tape is not full and there’s 7 more days to be appendable. But it will not be written to at all. Hello,I’m wondering what’s the proper approach to data verification in native cloud environments. The environment is built within the cloud, CS, MA, Cloud Libs etc. are placed in the same cloud solution, so the infrastructure traffic basically stays within the cloud.  The only reference that I’ve found in the docs was:Tip: By default, the data verification schedule policy that is created by the system is not configured with data mover MediaAgents that use a cloud storage product, because the read operations from the cloud are very slow and are performed on low latency media. If necessary, you can perform the data verification on the cloud storage manually.To run data verification on data that is stored on archive cloud storage, first recall the data to the main cloud storage location. Then you can run the data verification job on the recalled data.

Hey all - we are having a VSS failure for our DDB backups.  Providers look fine but seems like there is some sort of issue with it.Windows Application Log error says the provider could not be started.  The provider referenced is the Galaxy VSS Provider Service.  It is telling us there are no associated devices.This has been working just fine and then just randomly started failing on Nov 22nd.  Nothing has changed on the media agent.When running the vss creation manually - the error is VSS_E_UNEXPECTED_PROVIDER_ERRORCustomer will most likely open a ticket but wondering if anyone has any ideas?PS- we rebooted just for the heck of it...

Hello,I would like to discuss the issue with a cleaning tape.Our cleaning tape is marked as deprecated and it is not possible to use it for cleaning anymore. Is it possible to somehow reset the counter for number of uses? We tried to delete the cleaning tape and rediscovered it, but the Commvault remembers the number of uses. The cleaning tape seems to be new, on the tape library there is written, that it was used almost 60 times.Any help much appriciated!

If we enable tiering on a cloud library that lready exists with data in it, is it only new data (writes) that get’s tiered or is the whole path re-arranged?//Henke
