Hello, customer is managing SAP HANA backups from DB side via backint. He want to create special 3rd copy of his online full backups.On commvault side, DB backups are taken by DB_backup storage policy and log backups are taken by Log_backup storage policy. As per my understanding, due to whole backup process is controlled by HANA Studio (or similar tool), Commvault cannot control what and when is backed up and therefore is kind of blind. I was able to setup aux copy of monthly Online full backups to S3 library. We are now testing restore from S3 library (it is 3rd copy), but is failing. Failure reason is caused by absence of log backups. Customer now wants to schedule aux copy of Log jobs related to the particular Monthly Online full. I am, however, not sure if it is possible due to mechanism of backups - as I mentioned, they are taken by DB itself and therefore I expect Commvault is not able to “choose” needed log jobs. Conclusion: Is it po

Hello expertsNeed to restore deleted data, and user have no clue about the size of data, in CommVault as you know we can see the size of individual files, but not folders, for folders and sub-folders it shows 0 Bytes.So is there anyway to find that before we actually hit the restore and filled up any space.

Over the last several days my jobs are getting killed on Metallic because of this error [82:158]. Since we’re on the cloud we don't have any control over Media Agent or storage.  Are other customers seeing this problem as well? I’m still trying to catch up on all my EXO backup, but these problem keep making it difficult to do. 

I have a user that has replaced a Linux client computer in Commvault with a new upgraded computer with the same name. I need to be able to restore backups from the original client to the new client but I can’t get the new client to show up in Commvault. When I try to bring it in I get the error “ Failed to get preimagemode xml file from client. Any ideas how to get past this error?

Hey Guys!If there’s no tool, i think it can be solved in the CommServe DB.I just want to switch a specific Agent, like File System/OES/Vmware to another client.Customer made some bad configuriations, and to fix it, i don’t want to reinstall/reconfigure all, which is a lot of work/time, and the biggest help for our problem would be an option to move (a double installed Agent/Client for the same Server, but can’t merge it because both have vm config. The old one has all the backup history, the new Client when reinstalled comes with a vmware client because customer created a new vm, but we need to attach the old backup history/configuration, to the new vm) an agent just to another client, which maybe can be just a little change in the CV DB. I’ve tried to google and search on documentation, but always get pointed to commcell migration, what is not our topic.Maybe you have some ideas for us, Thank you in adv

I’m trying to do a 1-Touch restore to a Dell R730. I have an iso generated via create_1tchbootcd.sh. I then attached the iso via the attach media feature of the idrac for the server. It boots and gets to grub just fine. Immediately after grub is hangs on this message.Trying to allocate 3315 pages for VMLINZ[Linux-EFI, setup=0x10b4, size 0xcf2878] Has anyone successfully booted a dell server via idrac virtual media with a 1-touch iso? Anyone know what might be going on here? The instructions say to use pxe but I’m trying to avoid that method.

But regarding to the Index, i got the Error“Failed to create the collection with error [Cannot accomodate the [4] shards since only [0] slots are available”Can please someone explain to me what is meant by Shards? What are Shards? And if 0 available, can i increase the shards, or how can i fix that?And can this be related to an actual running DDB Verification Job?KR

Hi,We would like to hit max APIs on our S3 compatible object storage and we are wondering what all operations via Commvault we can perform to do so.For eg: Backup , restore does hit the s3 PUT and GETs respectively along with HEADs.We would like to perform some regression tests via Commvault.Any recommendations on how to approach this? If via some tool or some other actions?

Hi,I want to deploy the end user laptop package to all the computers in the network without end user interaction. The documentation suggests method of using CommCell Console but I am on version 11.34 and commcell console doesnot work for this version. Is there a way to deploy it using command center

Hello,we back up PostgreSQL 15 databases as FSBasedBackupSet. The databases run on Linux RHEL9 VMs. Commvault copies the PGDATA directory as a file system after calling the pg_backup_start and performing a database quiescing. The backup runs online, which means that applications that could update the data, are running in parallel. If the database is large, the backup may end with "Completed with one or more errors". The reason for this is: Some files that the job scanned and collected in its CVFfiles are deleted. So we get something like this:ClBackupFile::OpenFilesForBackup(7273) - Could not specify path '/data/postgres/db/as15/tabWe then started setting some paths in the additional sPGDirIgnoreList Parameter to exclude deleted files. This resulted in a backup job with return code 0 instead of "Completed with one or more errors".But then some of the missing files seemed to be part of

Hi All,- primary site one MA with disk library DL1 (one mount path) - DR site one MA with disk library DL2 (one mount path) - DR site MA SAS direct connect to tape library- subclient_A with 20VMs and subclient_B 30VMs use same storage policy Primary backup to disk library DL1 daily 7PM- aux copy from Primary backup to Second backup disk library DL2- aux copy from Second backup to tape Q1. since the tape backup from single source DR site MA, the multiplexing factor default 5, may we know the actual factor is 1 when backup to tape? Q2. any benefit if change multiplexing factor from 5 to 10?Best regards

Hi dears, I have some inquiries regarding index server and webconsoles hardware refresh. I have an index server consists of 1 node Need to migrate it to a new hardware with recent OS version and wi add another node for the redundancy. What is the best approach?  follow the hardware refresh proccess for the index server then add the newer node - or add another node to the index server then perform loadbalance task to move the index data to the other node then remove the old node?  - or add 2 new nodes to the index servers then remove the old node which will run an auto scale task and move the data to the new nodes?Q2. I have 2 webconsole  with tomcat ssl cert applied on the servers , need to migrate the webconsoles to a newer hardware with recent OS.What is the best and easiest approach to perform this activity? This is a production email archiving environment.

Hi all,My manager wants to know the backup files list for a specific backup jobId via RESTful API through automation.At first, I thought it could be done using POST /QCommand, but I found out that data browse XML files cannot be run using POST /QCommand. In “normal Commvault Operations”, Should I have tapes in my tape library that have “Last Write Time” set as a date (not empty), and on them a write session (or a few), but the data on the tape is 0 bytes and no associated storage policy?For all storage policies/tape copies (except a few) we have “infinite” retention set on the tapes.  For those that do not, retention is “years” (except the DR tape(s) .  We do not re-use tapes.I have several (like 40 tapes) with “Last Write Time” set to a few days (or weeks… a few are months)  ago, etc and all are0 bytes. Not all tapes in the system that are 0 Bytes have Last Write Time set.  Using ‘tape → view contents” shows “no data” (as expected). The tapes show they have been mounted (“Number of mounts > 0) and there sems to be a file marker or 2 on them.So: I’m wondering how to tell “what its writing to them” and why or if “this is normal” as part of some internal 1 time “tape validation/initialization” job or something…

Good day!We have a requirement to route VMware backup over the dedicated VMkernel network on ESXI hosts. Unfortunately, the CommVault solution does not have a proper method to route VMware backup traffic over 902 (NFC) to HyperscaleX. If I’m correct the “Dedicated Interface Paring (DIP)” will not work for the VMware backup type.  Please let me know if there are some improvements made in the latest Version to manage VMware backup traffic using DIP.Below are the environment details, IP, and names being just dummy, curious to know if it will work if I use a host file entry to route traffic over a dedicated VMkernel network. Commserve:   IP and NameMGMT -→ 192.168.10.10 cs01.test.comBackup -→ 10.0.8.10HyperScaleX:  Network label, IP and Name. Three node HSX cluster. HelloWe have a cluster with 1 primary and 3 secondary servers, dump backup works from everyone but log backups only work on the primary. What is the best practice for this situation?And if you can backup the logs only from the primary how will it work when the primary failovers?

Hello my dear Community!I have a question from a customer for which I honestly can’t answer. If a customer is using let’s say 10 TB of Air Gap Protect to protect all his VMs, and he decides to release the license on one of his VMs, and let’s say that that VM is consuming 1 out of the 10 TB, will releasing the license also reduce the AGP consumption? Or will it stay exactly the same? I know there is dedup and all, but lets say that this VM actually has 1 TB of unique blocks out of that 10 TB. Will it decrease the license usage but still keep the data for the retention?I would believe it’ll stay the same but I want to confirm. In Commvault Core, when you release a server that uses FET license, it does release that capacity back right away. I want to know if it does the same in Metallic.Thanks in advance.
