We just started the implementation of Commvault in a brand new VMware environment. Now I'm seeing already an increased amount of duplicate client computers in our environment causing some administrative nightmares and management challenges.So I started investigating it and discovered the UUID registration to differ from what I'm used to when comparing it to AWS. It appears the registered UUID in Commvault is actually the so called PersistentID/InstanceUUID and this one can't be tracked back from within the VM itself. The UUID that is shown from the OS corresponds to the VMware BIOS UUID. We installed some client agents first followed by the configuration of the VSA agent. Both are being used actively. Fixing duplicate client names is an annoying tasks, especially in MSP environments and I'm puzzled this hasn't been fixed by Commvault. Hi community,I am running a large Hyper-V and VMware setup and several admins are editing the subclients.When we edit two different VSA subclients (for the same VSA pseudo client) at the same time, we get an error message:→ This property sheet is opened by ‘user1’ your changes may be overwritten by ‘user2’and wenn the second user leaves the subclient after editing the changes are lost and we get the message:→ There have been changes made to this subclient or backup set. Please refresh Commcell Console and resubmit your changes. From my point s not make sense. If this were two subclients in a File System Agent this would make sense, because these subclients affect each other. But in a VSA setup these subclients are/should be independend. And even more strange: I can edit the two subclients in the Command Center (aka VM-Groups) without an error. Is there any setting to avoid the “locking” of VSA subcli

is there any way of dropping a DB prior to a scheduled restore? I don’t think there is an option to do this but is there a simple way to capture the list of drops a drop them ahead of the restore starting?

In the following URL vSAN Support for the Virtual Server Agent with VMware (commvault.com), it is written “For Service Pack 11 and later, the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) provides support for streaming backups, IntelliSnap backups, and restores of virtual machines on VMware Virtual SAN (vSAN) datastores.”In the case of  VMware vSAN, what is the difference between streaming & Intellisnap backups?Is the hotadd transport mode linked to Intellisnap backups and the NBD transport mode linked to streaming backups?Thanks & Regards

When I want to backup Exchange online, Sharepoint online, Ondrive and teams do I need 4 access nodes? There is little data in ondrive and teams can I use the same access node? 

We use metallic to backup our azure VMs using the metallic hot storage. Both are in east us. We have on-prem servers that are hosted on a hyper-v that we would also like to back up to the hot storage. How should we go about it? The on-prem location has a site-to-site with our azure environment. Should we create the gateway on an azure vm or an on prem vm? What about the proxy server? I would like to minimize costs as much as possible.Thanks in advance! 

I have purchased an HPE StoreEasy 1660 device for on-site storage of our Commvault backups.  As I am working through setting this device up, a number of questions have come up which got me wondering if there is a “best practice” to follow so I can get this in an optimal configuration for Commvault backup storage.I am setting up a RAID 6 array.  The device is running Windows Server 2019.  What allocation unit size would be best? I have the ability to join this device to our domain.  Are we in a more secure position if I don’t join it to the AD domain?  I’ve got ransomware risks on my mind. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately due to the way we work some of our colleagues only connect laptops to VPN for a few hours each week at random times. I’ve found many of our laptops with corrupted Commvault agent installations, which I am trying to repair using SCCM. I have tried deploying a job from the Commcell to uninstall or repair, but I’ve not had any luck getting that to connect with these laptops so falling back on SCCM. The best way I can think of resolving these issues, is to use “setup.exe /uninstall /silent” and then once uninstalled deploy the software again. This is working to remote the software from the laptops I am testing on, but it is not working to retire the laptop in the Commcell/Commserve as the colleagues don’t have permissions on Commcell.  Is there a way to embed credentials into an XML and reference that in the uninstall?

Recently deployed a FREL for granular level restores but getting failed to mount . Communication is proper and FREL has been restarted 

v11.22.57 has reached end of life. I’m looking for some help on where to go from here. Here is the response from CV support:“We have version 11.24 which is a long-term feature Release and the latest 11.26 which is a short-term feature release.”I took a look at the newsletter for new features and they both have some good stuff. I’m wondering if anyone has any good or bad experience from upgrading from 11.22.57 to 11.24 or 11.26?Thanks

Hello All, We are configuring a new cloud based storage, and concerning that, we wanted to know if the CommServe has to have access to the cloud library ? Since the storage and the MA will have a private network in which the storage will present its buckets to the MA. and the CommServe with the MA will communicate through our backup network.In the configuration steps, we came through : So we wondered if that means that the CS has to have some sort of access to the storage (Which is not the case in our platform, since the storage is only seen by the MA through their private network), or it's just the information related to the MA accessing the storage ? Regards.

Hi Community, Recently we acquired an Object storage library, which is compatible with CV (Oceanstore 100D), I was wondering how should it be configured.Should it be configured as a cloud library ? How can it be mapped to our MA ?Sorry if these questions may sound a bit silly, am a nooby regarding object storage, am only used to the classic NAS/SAN storage. Any step by step recommendations would be much appreciated to get a better understanding. Best regards.

Hey All, maybe you have an idear. We are missing the part  protect → applications → exchange this is not available. We are using eschange DAG backup with blocklevel feature.  In java gui it works without problems. In Command center we did not see this point.  We tried different users with master role and also tried different languages. Version ist 11.25.19 maybe you have an idear

Hi all,one of our customers (running CV11.24.43) is interested in configuring a Selective Copy to Amazon S3 Standard-IA/Deep Archive (Combined Storage Tier). So far, no problem.We intend to copy Monthly Fulls. Basic retention will be 365 days and Yearly Fulls will get extended retention set to 10 years.Also, they want to lock the objects to prevent them from being deleted before the retention is met. The “Enable WORM Storage” workflow should take care of that.But it does raise a few questions:Would you recommend using Deduplication in this scenario, or not? If we use Dedupe, I suppose a DDB seal will take place automatically ever 365 days, right? In this combined storage tier, metadata is written to Standard-IA, and actual backup data is stored in the Deep Archive tier, right? Do we set the object-level retention on both tiers? I have a subclient job that runs ever night at 11pm. The job completes at different times the next day. Anywhere from 8am to 4pm depending on other backup jobs.I have a job summary report I built to show the files that were backed up. I need this report to launch after the specific subclient job has completed each day. I tried using the subclient post job script but because its a job summary report it does not show the files just backed up because the job is still open. Need suggestion or direction how to get Commvault to check and notice when the backup has completed and run report. Thank you

Hello,After an upgrade from CV 11.20.46 to 11.24.43 (Both CS (active and standby), Mediagents, and clients have been upgraded. I have an issue with one of the Intellisnap Mediaagent.From NDMP properties of Ontap Cluster node involved, I start Detect after a while I get “could not open an ndmp connection to host…..”.I have modified Ndmp password on Ontap node then CS with no success.Check readiness on Mediaiagent is unsuccessful. I have restarted this MA, check readiness = OK but issue with ndmp persists.An idea regarding this issue ?Thanks in advance,Gilles
